Hard to argue with 350-3/4 at this stage - looks flat as a pancake.

Motoring along comfortable at the moment but both, and Hales especially, prone to the odd moment of madness.

Now the 10,000 monkey is off his back I expect Cook will be more relaxed

Wow

First time I have got a comment published on Cricinfo !

"Alf may not have selected KP for team ethic, but surely KP at least would offer more entertainment than Hales and Cook are serving up against this 'attack'," wails Chris, betraying an unhealthy lack of perspective. Calm down, eh. It's the first morning of a five-day match!`

(this was after four consecutive maidens...)

I think Gargs waited 15 years to be 'published' on Cricinfo despite emailing them every day, and then when he did he got his arse handed to him hehe

Funny, have only tried a few times, probably there is no one else actually "watching" his one as it is the rubberiest of dead rubbers.

What is the point of cricket if not entertainment...never been one to enjoy viewing someone bat all day for 37....yes Compton I am thinking of you.

Really need to find another number 3. Don't think Nick is going to make the grade.

There are different forms of entertainment gargs - you've call of duty (T20) and a game of chess (test matches).

Both have their places and a lot of us enjoy a good game of chess and find it entertaining. I definitely do.

Been following cricket for a while, started going to tests in 1987... go most years to one or other days at lords or the oval. Love test cricket.

But this is the third match of a dead series against an attack that is laughably county, on an absolute road at Lords in the sunshine.

Top Test teams have an opening pair that knocks the bowlers out of rhythm, when we had Gooch or Tresco those guys at least smashed the bad balls, and frankly played decent drives on both sides of the wicket. Cook has only got three shots, plays percentages and is ridiculously good at it, but fk it is dull to watch. Hales has every shot but no mentally for when to play them.

Compton is a walking wicket.

If we are going to be number one in Test Cricket, we need a reliable opener to partner Cook.

I am not against watching a slow, absorbing contest between bat and ball, but this isn't it.

Yeah. I thought he was poorly treated first time around and deserved his shot, but he hasn't delivered in this stint. And he isn't getting any younger.

Fair play to Sri Lanka they stuck at it today. Difficult pitch to bowl on, and they made a decent effort.

Well YJB dug us out again, don't think we will see Compton again regardless of a second innings, at 33 it look pretty much over.

Hope World number one test bowler fancies a bat tomorrow.m someone needs to stay with YJB to his double.

Highlight of my day, TMS with Aggers and co ripping the whatsit out of Boycott as Camilla Parker Bowes has asked to be seated next to Boycs during lunch at Wimbledon.

Brendon McCullum's Colin Cowdrey lecture, It's been emotional.

Sri Lanka played well I think, still got concern for England top order batting, still only got one firing on 3 cylinders and middle order pulling them out of the mire. If that early catch from JMB had stuck then would have been 102-5, not good.

136 partnership for the 7th wicket is more than solid.... but as you say they are ticking along, declare just before tea....
