In the July edition of the Field magazine was advertised a used H&H Royal 12G Shotgun for £3500. Naturally when I called the gun had been sold. Would this gun have had a particular problem? From experience I was thinking the price tag was missing a 0!

Price could get to this level if a number of factors were present the most obvious is that the vendor has not had the gun appraised properly but more likely is that they have and the gun perhaps has thins walls, proof measurements below minimum or requires gunsmithing such as rejointing, reblacking etc. If the wood was cracked, split or not original then again this would massively effect the value. Finally if the gun has been sleeved or perhaps has short barrels and so is 'out of fashion' then the market for these things is not actually great - all the best ones are for sale in dealers, at auction or at Hollands and so at £3500 most buyers would probabaly go for a decent modern over/under and so they can actually be hard to get money out of quickly. A Pistonheads comparison were would be a 10;12 year old german barge with no service history and a host of warning lights on the dash ....
