For the risk of being shot down for starting this too early.
Plus this thread being moved by the Mods to some quiet forum.

What are people thinking?

Mine are

(1) Laura Trott - attitude to winning
(2) Mo Farah - greatest middle distance runner of all time
(3) Adam Peaty - 21 yrs old WRx2 and Gold and totally un-phased by it all

Team - Womens Hockey Team
Helen Rollason Award - Nick Skelton

I haven't forgotten about Lewis and Andy but just think someone else deserves it this year.

Coach of the Year: I'm going with Roy Hodgson. Quite possibly an outsider, but you'll get decent odds at the moment.

As much as I'd like to see the GB hockey team get the team award, I have a feeling it's far more likely to be given to Leicester City tbh.

It will be interesting to see how they whittle down to the final "on the night" voting list (normally 10?) this year, as there are so many athletes that deserve to be nominated.

Jonny Rea
Tom Sykes
Chas Davies

For being at the top of their game for the last two seasons which is some achievement.

Team of the year: Team GB, Leicester City FC, England Rugby Union all in with good shouts.
SPOTY: Mo Farrah or Andy Murray (If he wins the US Open). Plenty of others too like Alistair Brownlee, Adam Peaty, Nicola Adams etc. for retaining Olympic Titles or being head and shoulders above everyone else in their discipline.

Team of the year: no-one mentioned Wales yet for their Euro 2016 exploits?

If Chris Froome manages to complete a TdF and Vuelta double this year, he really ought to be in with a strong shout, even if he 'only' managed a bronze in the Olympics time trial. If I were a betting man though, I would probably go with Mo for the main award, Leicester City for team of the year and Bolt as overseas personality (though Phelps may well run him close).

There's no real love for Froome in the UK though. Especially since he's from Africa and lives in Monaco.

Whereas Mo's from Africa and lives in the US wink
(He did live here for a long time though and does speak like he's a Brit!)

Don't you have to win something first before being considered?

Not as far as I'm aware. I always believed the criteria were being a team and achieving something notable. If you know differently I'd be happy to be corrected.

This would be the same team that was dicked out of sight in their own World Cup? Why not nominate the England football team - they were after all the only only team in the whole of Europe that qualified for the second most prestigious international tournament with a perfect ten wins out of ten record.

I don't see who you can be regarded as the greatest middle distance runner of all time without having broken previous world records.

I don't and that's why I asked.

If you define same team to include all the players and management from the WC then no it wasn't

No, you define same team as competing under the same name, otherwise I assume you'd be nominating a number of different England rugby teams or did the same fifteen play in every game?
