Well that was terrible, a real capitulation at the end.

Appreciate the pitch was both turning and producing unplayable balls, shooters etc. but even so - you'd expect one batsman to "get in" and make something

Anyway - I had low expectations of this series, so I am not massively surprised. We don't have a settled line up, not every batsman is in form/good enough and we need more experience of playing in these conditions.

I guess we competed in sessions, but too many bad moments

I don't know why we expected any different.

We were bound to lose but it is a shame the rest of the team didn't show the resilience of the openers yesterday.

This second innings was basically a carbon copy of the one we lost in Bangladesh. Still as long as a Y is added to every player's surname all will be well.

Following on from the Faf Du Plessis ball tampering incident, footage has appeared of Virat Kohli doing a similar thing during the 1st test against England.

It doesn't seem as blatant as Du Plessis but I think there will have to be some clarification about what is and isn't allowed.

Today we have been mostly careless

Is there any position Ali can bat in ?

Surely four is too high for him ?

Lots of Batsmen getting "in" and then not going on. Will be lucky to get to 300 now.

Still shuffling the pack for every match isn't helpful, and Buttler hadn't held a bat in the middle for quite sometime, so I think that is a decent knock

All up to you YJB

Or Maybe

Lead of 146 is not a small score on a wearing pitch. England dropping 3 catches not ideal and it seems clear that our spinners just don't have it over the India batsman, though of course India are much more adept at playing spin.

Big innings required from someone here or this will be another loss

God we are awful at the moment.

Ali seems to have a habit of throwing it away with wierd shots. Another skier today.

YJB I have some sympathy for, not easy to keep for a long period and then come back out again to bat quickly.

Stokes. Well we know what he is, hero on his day, and has performed with the ball in this test.

Don't think anything can save us from here. Would be great if we could at least post a 100 run lead.

Doomed, doomed I say.

Knackered we are, five tests in six weeks after playing in Bangladesh was never going to be easy. Can we schedule an early May test in Scotland as revenge?

Yes lurching from bad to worse.

I think a number of people predicted a series loss - would be crazy to think differently - India are ranked number one, and at home with limited experience of the subcontinent in the England side, this was always going to be tough.

But we should be winning sessions and even days. At the moment we are making simple errors, Cook dropping sitters at slip, Moeen batting without a brain, Stokes can't seem to deliver when we really need it, and too few reliable players.

At the moment only Root and YJB seem to have a batting plan, and Cook despite his ugly 130 looks frankly a little lost, both in the captain role and certainly as a man to wear down the bowling.

Spinners are trying hard, but just can't frighten the India players, too little guile and too many "loose" balls - pitching short is about the worst crime for a spinner, and its clearly frightening for our close fielders.

Just doesn't seem to be any resilience about the team, and for that you have to look at Cook.

Looking like a bit of a shambles to be honest. The squad looks odd with Batty playing instead of Ansari and offered little. Ballance is the dedicated batsman as cover, but we play butler instead?

Cook potentially should be looked to be replaced a skipper. I still think he can offer with the bat, but limited idea's in the field and we really should start blooding Root as Skipper.

The schedule is a joke to try and cram all these tests into a short space of time.

Ballance is not the answer, has had a number of chances and not really made the grade now his technique has been exposed.

Agree re Batty. I didn't mind them picking Buttler, but then to bat Bairstow at four when he was knackered instead of putting "the specialist" in shows the paucity of Cook's thinking, especially when two wickets were down 20 minutes after YJB finished two days of keeping.
