Nasser has it right. England get 6/16 on that pitch and Indian batters getting 300. Pathetic.

Case for the defence: it's been an incredibly long tour played with a patched up squad in alien Asian conditions. We ran out of energy.
Case for the prosecution: innings defeats after winning the toss suggest a lack of team spirit and a captain who can't motivate. But, most of all, pathetic shot selection when under pressure - I'm looking at you Moeen this time. Although there are MANY other examples.

Verdict: nothing will change. We'll have a nice summer test series back on seaming pitches, India will be forgotten. And round we go again.

Be quite surprised if Chef doesn't resign after this.

I'm not sure.

It's been a tough tour but England are still doing way better generally than in the dark old days.

Once you have said you are considering giving it up, you are giving it up.

Seried defeat 4-0 and a massive innings loss. Well - probably says how that has been communicated inside the team.

Cook has always been competent not inspirational. We need a new approach if we are to be World Number one.

India would always be a tough tour, I expected us to lose, but not like this. This was awful.

Still Jennings does look a good find.

Still...as long as they're all mates and happy in the dressing room right?

Yup. Adding a Y to a name really promotes ability.

Complete and utter ste, from whoever thought it would be a good idea to play seven tests through the Autumn in the subcontinent to whoever was responsible for the lack of application this afternoon and evening.

I expect Root's test match average to plummet from here on.

This was always a concern. Playing that many tests away from home is crazy. The ECB are desperate to cram as much in as possible to increase revenues.

I'm not sure whose decision it was to play so many tests (in particular the 5 match series in India). Was it the ECB or was it the BCCI?

Either way England played 17 tests this calendar year which is the second highest ever, only beaten by the 18 tests played by India in 1983. On the plus side, unlike the Indian's of 1983, we did win some.

What the actual. Cook named ICC's Test Captain 2016 and Kohli doesn't get a look in.

The time period covered did not include the recent test series against India.

I know.

"The 12-month qualifying period did not begin well for Cook as England lost a three-Test series 2-0 to Pakistan in October 2015. Overall in the period he led England in 14 matches, with six wins, three draws and five losses."

Still st.
