I personally believe that the races are far too long.
Yes, historically they were even longer and a pro race is meant to be just that, a challenge. However, I think they could do with being at least halved. 80 - 100 km stages would be plenty.
lol 100km is less than what most amateurs race. Yes, historically they were even longer and a pro race is meant to be just that, a challenge. However, I think they could do with being at least halved. 80 - 100 km stages would be plenty.
The stages are too long in parts, but they still need to be a decent distance. 100km is not that.
my thoughts about the vuelta being shorter isn't actually quite right it was about 200k less and about 6 hours riding less so hardly easier. This years TDF's longest stage was close to 240km about 160 miles or so much of which was quite docile until the Sprinters teams take over. What ever system or technology comes in to find the cheats people will always try and see where the boundary is between right and wrong.

Unfortunately this is not unique to cycling, but I believe prevalent in most professional sports.
Cycling is in the spotlight because of Villy Voet, Festina and LA.
The next scandal could be African middle / long distance runners, for example.............
The only way to clear up elite sport is transparency. To compete at Elite level and earn money you need to regularly publish all your medical / blood data. No if's, but's or excuses, it's just mandatory if you want to earn money from sports.
We won't have too far to look from home if the next scandal is middle / long distance runners... Cycling is in the spotlight because of Villy Voet, Festina and LA.

I think whatever the final outcome may prove, the reputation of Sky, Wiggins & Brailsford has been damaged.
I'd be interested to hear the Rhetoric of team Sky in next seasons grand tours/races etc. I'm not sure they will preach the same nonsense in fear of a backlash.
I'm guessing Sky will be cleared after all it's up to the governing body to approve TUE's, SKY just propose them.I'd be interested to hear the Rhetoric of team Sky in next seasons grand tours/races etc. I'm not sure they will preach the same nonsense in fear of a backlash.
Then SKY will have the usual "learnt lessons" will do things differently, etc. (as they did after their 1st season)
The whole cycling circus will continue with very little change until the next time when "they'll do it differently" again............

That's the bit I don't understand when he has missed 3 tests himself!
So he missed three tests in 11 years. Yes and goes on to criticise another Pro about being unprofessional !
I can fully accept anybody missing a whereabouts. Hence why the system allows for a genuine mistake. But 3 in the same year is just nonsense. And points to either something sinister (not convinced she's a doper tbh) But more likely a case of "do you know who I am?" An arrogance that is simply not becoming.
Having watched the ladies race today in Doha. As the peleton sped towards the line all I could think was "I hope anyone but Deignan wins!" She shouldn't be racing!

Very different from Deignan, hence why he (and other pros who may miss tests now and again) aren't sanctioned for it. And why would he mention it in his book? Unless he's said something like "I've never missed a test" (which I don't believe he has).
I suppose as he is a professional cyclist telling his story and in a sport ravaged by drug abuse, missing not one but two tests would be something worth mentioning in my opinion if only to give the reasons why. As in nip it in the bud. Nothing to hide an all that. Of course not saying anything and hoping no one ever finds out isn't suspicious at all. Whiter than white is now become rather grey in Wiggo's case I'm afraid.

why would he mention missing a test (of which he has had very many) once every three or four years it is absolutely insignificant. Cant help but think some have a personal agenda against the man he may not be everyones cup of tea but some seem desperate for this to turn out bad for him. So far we have heard nothing from UKAD to suggest he is any sort of trouble .Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
