Yes, I know he's a sprinter, mostly anaerobic wink. For endurance stuff (over 2 mins) it's all about getting the most Oxygen to the muscles and using it efficiently.
All totally normal and that Catabolic steroids would eat lean muscle mass which would not be good for cycling! wink

If you've ever stood on the roadside of a big mountain stage, watching the climbers ride up is pretty much watching skeletons on bikes.

The problem with the TDF and other sports like F1 is that sitting at home watching it makes us all believe we could achieve it. However those guys are nothing short of remarkable.

They are effectively riding 100miles EVERY, SINGLE day for nearly 3 weeks. If you compare it to running, I would class it as running a competitive marathon at pace for the same duration.

I could ride 100 miles a day for 21 days. One day of racing 100 miles and I am pretty trashed though.

They don't race every day in reality. Lance always got pissed when some mug made a run for it on a 'easy day'
They generally spin the legs for most stages baring a few days that make or break the race.

I agree, I did hear that most days were conversational. Either way, still won't deter me from believing that what they do is anything short of incredible.

Quite, probably a pedestrian 25-26mph for 4 hours.

Strava is quite good. Some of the riders use a HR monitor and you can get an idea of how fit they actually are.

One thing is that has human beings we all have our limit's. The performance drugs help reach and find those limit's quicker.

Given that Hobbits are generally short and somewhat stout, I'm not surprised.

In the past the might have been the odd transition day were things were taken easy, but modern days it’s full on racing most of the time. An “easy day” will still average well over 30mph. These guys don’t mess around.

Before opening that link, I knew it would one of two things -either champagne drinking on the neutralized part of the final TdeF stage, or Sagan doing a wheelie up a col (about 30 mins behind the racy end of the race) hehe
