Having tried staying with groups on the tour of Cambridge, I can assure you it is not that easy. No amateur rider will be able to live with the pace. It's a bit like saying that you could keep up with Lewis Hamilton in a similar gokart.

There is a reason why they are called professional riders.
The flat stages with limited wind probably a cat 2 rider would get round without much issue IMO. Some of the wattages they do on the breakaway days are very very low.

A good example is the big sportives like the ones you mention. Some absolute stmuncher riders finished with 25mph average in Ride London last year. Rolling along in a huge pack is quite taxing on the brain but it makes riding fast pretty easy, I remember doing a race as a fairly new 2nd cat with a fair few UK pro riders and averaging nearly 50kmph for 90 miles, it was pretty easy, obviously I was only in the bunch vs up the road or similar but it did illustrate how easy it can be if you hide well.

was only 90 mins, but could have kept going at that pace. the only ball ache was the bunch of 60 braking into the hairpin and sprinting out, everything else is pretty flowing at lea valley.
