Well what a great game.
I'm in India at the moment and these finals are in TV.
It's an ancient Indian game which I'm not going to try to explain other than to say it's like a very physical game of 'ticanic' with rugby sporting decency.
India is the worlds best but they are in trouble this year with S Korea is looking fantastic.
Having never watched it before and the England team made up primarily from UK Indian Asians, I thought we had a good chance.
Korea just stuffed us 56 to 17 frown
Never mind, it's enjoyable watching a sport for the first time that I didn't know existed and that's so dynamic but sporting.

Great world cross section.
S Korea,
Argentina,
Kenya,
USA,
Thailand,
England,
Australia,
India,
Bangladesh,
Japan,
Poland,
Iran,

I only know it from watching him Transworld Sport many years ago and it used to be on channel 4 just afterwards on a Saturday morning. Loved the fact you have to keep chanting!!

OK we got stuffed by S Korea, one of the favourites but the Ausies just lost 8 to 80 against Bangladesh.
Feel better now. smile
Having said that, we are about to take on India. frown

Did it at school with an intersection competition within the CCF, great fun.

RAF section seemed to spend most of their time playing and practicing it though, bit of an advantage when it came to the competition!

I've talked about Kabaddi with mates in the pub as I remembered it from channel 4 all those years ago. They had no memory of it and said I was making it up (I can be a bit of a spinner!). I even explained the single breath rule and repeating Kabaddi. I even started to doubt myself!! Sent a text to a mate this weekend to say it was on tele. He couldn't believe it!

A group of us at school loved this and watched Trans World Sport every Saturday morning. We were surprised to be given a telling off for trying to recreate this in our playground.

"How dare you all pile on one boy!"
"But Sir, we're playing Kabaddi!"

Sir needed some explanation about what Kabaddi was. While none of us got detention, Sir remained unimpressed and Kabaddi was never played again at our school.

Those were (briefly) great days. hehe

world cup on now , i think , channel 815 , ptc punjabi .

the one breath rule is that when an attacker goes to tag an opponent , he must take one breath and constantly say kabaddi , kabaddi ... he must tag and return to base whilst only having taken one breath . sorry if that does not make sense , somebody more awake will be along soon, i hope

^ I thought the whole lot was "one breath rule"- does anyone play Kabaddi without it?

it would not be kabbadi without it . i was trying , badly to explain what theone breath rule was about .

the broadcaster is missing a trick here , the commentary is in punjabi . not ideal .they do not seem to realise that there is a wider audience.
it is making me smile , my dad is in in his eighties , and he is watching it now and he is quite animated and coming up with techical terms with some of the moves. i have not seen him like this for decades smile
