We played the Colt course. It was fantastic. To say it was February and we had 40 mph gusts of winds and had rained all week it was in great condition. Tees and greens open all round.

Very very hilly. Buggies weren't in use and it was a lot of up and down hill. Stunning views all the way round.

Front nine was good but the back nine was fantastic 11 -18 every hole was memorable.

By the time the Masters comes round in September it should be in awesome condition.

Facilities are great too, but a bit more restaurant than club house which is a shame.

Performance wise - 28 points off my amateurish 27 handicap - the better players I was with took better advantage than I did.

Cut to 14.4 today after an excellent for me 82 in some very windy conditions!

39 points with a blob. Took the sweep of £33 as well! Happy days!

Close House looks incredible Dan! Might try and nab a round there in the summer just before the masters if i can!

Going the right way Rosscow, what's the aim for the end of the season, single digits?

Nah - I did that last year and ended up going up!!! rofl

I'm just happy trying to play consistently and see what happens - 12 would be nice but I'm not going to get carried away.

I've got a really busy year ahead with house extension, etc. starting so practice time is going to be minimal.

Cracking weekend. 4 of us had a golf weekend at Princes Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent. £125 which included 18 holes on each day (they have 3 loops of 9 - Shores, Dunes and Himalayas) Enjoyed all the loops - Himalayas was certainly the easiest of the 3. Course in decent nick, windy links weather, but no rain, and played pretty well £125 also included 2 course evening meal, and full English yesterday. Stayed in a 4 man Lodge Apartment which had 2 ensuite rooms and was spot on. The Lodge Apartments actually overlook some of the holes onto Royal St Georges too which is next door to Princes. Princes hosted the 1932 Open won by Gene Sarazen.
Overall a really good weekend.

Probably the most sensible shake up of the rules of golf coming in for 2019, iIt looks as though the PGA and R&A are now working well together. I can't disagree with any of the revised rules, common sense appears to be winning at long last & it can only speed things up which has to be a good thing.

Most of them look quite sensible, but there are a couple I'd take issue with:

- Leaving the flag in whilst putting. OK to cover accidents but I can see that being abused.
- Changing relief from one clublength to 20cm or 80 cm. th ebeauty of the clublength rule, is to measure it out all you need is your driver - moving to distances is going to require tape measures I would have thought.

Must admit it's news to me we can't use distance measuring devices - I've been using an app on my phone for 3 years without comment - or is that aimed at the pros?

Looking at the distance measuring devices thing I think it wasn't permitted under the rules of golf, but under local rules. They are presumably just bringing the rules in line with reality.

In terms of the others, all very sensible. Leaving the flag in when putting is presumably just designed so people don't wait for everyone to be on the green before removing/attending the flag and playing - facilitating ready golf. I'd say abuse is likely to be very rare, and for short-ish putts having the flag in is 50/50 whether it's a disadvantage or an advantage.

On measurement it'd be easy enough to put a tiny bit of tape/a mark on your driver's grip (for 20cm) and shaft for 80cm, wouldn't it?

Or even for manufacturers to build it in to the paintjobs/grip designs in a stylish way. You're welcome, golf equipment manufacturers reading this thread bowtie

Just got home after my 2-hour custom fit session with the Taylormade Performance centre at Wentworth golf club. Had a really interesting session with Luke, who coincidentally, was the same person that did the custom fit last time.

For those not familiar with the format, the first 30mins or so consists of a swing analysis, where you hit a few balls (7-iron, Driver and putter) whilst wearing reference point markers velcro'd on to your body, which are detected by the special cameras in the 'studio'.

This was very interesting for me as we were able to compare the key statistics for my swing with the session I had almost exactly 5 years ago. What surprised me was that, despite being 5-years older and having had some back problems, I was actually achieving a 5mph increase in swing speeds for the irons and the driver (not for the putter though wink ).

Even more pleasing was that the club head path angles, hips etc had improved significantly (and these are the areas I've been working on with my teacher at the range for some time now. Consistency is still an issue though, so I just need to get down to the range and onto the course more!

I had brought two different putters with me (I was planning to go back to my old ones, as I hadn't felt I'd been holing so many with the current one). We viewed my stroke on the computers and determined that the old putter would probably suit my style a bit better. However, he felt that the putter toe was sitting too high at address, causing the contact to be slightly off the heel and low on the club face so he took it into the workshop and tweaked the angle.

Next onto the irons. I explained that I still like my current irons (TM Forged TP MC), both look, feel and trajectory etc, so I would want to see some significant improvements before I would be choosing to upgrade.

I tried the new P770s which were nice, but not noticeably different in look (from the top) or feel when hitting them. They were longer that my current irons, but he suggested that given my ball flight, they could be adjusted down a degree or two which more closely resemble the lofts on the P770s and then distances would be more similar. I will be having that done, not really from a distance perspective but more to fit in with the wedges (see below) and the change to my rescue set up.

We then went on to fairway woods. As I alluded to in this thread previously, I currently have two fairway woods plus a rescue in addition to my driver and hence i was contemplating losing a fairway wood which would free up a space for an extra wedge, to close a gap at the other end of the bag.

We tried both M1 and M2 3HL clubs with a few different shafts and ended up with the M2 with a Reax 65 stiff shaft. Off the tee it was similar to my current 3 wood, but from the deck the flight was better (higher and softer) which was what I was looking for, given it will be replacing the existing 3W and 5W. So that will be added to the bag.

We then tried the M1 and M2 rescue. Looks wise the M1 didn't look as nice against the ball (I found the the black face and black head a bit distracting compared to the M2 where there is a black face and a white head (which provides a good contrast) and then black / carbon elsewhere. Given the removal of the 5 wood from my bag, we changed up from a 22 degree rescue to a 19 degree rescue which I hit really well (off the deck) and equally importantly felt i was able to flight nicely when hitting softer and three-quarter shots and trying to shape the ball. That will also be added to the bag!

I tried both the M1 and M2 drivers with different shafts but couldn't find anything that a) I liked the feel of or b) hit better that what I currently own (R11-S TP). Currently my club is a 10.5 degree club (which unusually has the RBZ shaft, making it fairly head-heady) which I've adjusted to 9.75 degrees, so I hit some with that and then we increased the loft back up to the standard 10.5 degrees which improved the spin numbers a little bit, so I will give that a go and see how i get on.

Finally onto the wedges. The new milled grind wedges look nice and felt good - fairly head heavy, which I like in a wedge. As we'll be taking my existing wedge back to say 46 degrees, I'll be adding a gap wedge (50 degree, low bounce), a sand wedge (56 degree which will be knocked back to 55 degree, high bounce) and a 60 degree, medium bounce lob wedge.

So the short summary is:
Out with existing 3W, 5W and Rescue, in with new 3HL and rescue
Out with existing 52 SW and 60 LW to be replaced by 50 AW, 55 SW and 60 LW
Existing irons to be knocked back 1or 2 degrees.
Putter already adjusted!

Let's see how I get on!

Anyone watching the WGC in Mexico?

Westwood going very well, currently leading at -6.

Greens don't look great, lots of bare patches.

Nice write up, and good to read that they didn't try and push the new irons too much.

Do you mind me asking how much the fitting was?
