Admittedly, some Artisan clubs are better than others! hehe

We have 2 courses, unlimited restrictions on 1 course and certain time restrictions on the other.

We have our own clubhouse with locker room, dining room, bar, toilets, showers, etc.

We're pretty lucky. Likewise places like St. Georges - some lovely little clubhouses.
Yeah to be fair I've never been in their club house whilst the cost Is significantly cheaper!

I know artisans are banned from playing before midday on weekends so would work well for flexi workers/semi-retired

I'm pretty happy with my short game - I think for me to reach the next level (single figures) my iron play needs to be better.

I need to be hitting more greens in regulation.
Up until the winter slow down for bad weather, I was comfortably playing to single figures without ever hitting more than 9 or 10 greens in a round. What's you GIR percentage, if you happen to keep those stats?
I'm a bit of statto about how my shots are distributed and try to log each round. I used to keep manual records but switched to the Scoresaver2 app a little while ago.

Over the past 50 or so rounds, I've averaged 66% FIR and 56% GIR.

Par scrambles (ie up and downs) seems high at 49%, but this does include putts from just off the green.

Averaging 30.4 putts per round which needs improving.

In fairness, if I knock it round in 26-27 putts it's generally a good score, 30 putts is OK, 34 or more and the card is ropey. As they say - drive for show, putt for dough.

On the app, each course needs to be set up individually but, once done, entering rounds is a doddle.

Isn't 26-27 top of PGA Tour range? For most amateurs, anything less than 36 is pretty much acceptable, cat1 and I guess it should be closer to 30, with a sharp short game.

When people off ~18 moan about their putting, and when asked, claim to have around 34 putts, I really do think they're missing the bigger picture, as to what is making them shoot 90 :-/

Aye, but the pros do that with GIR stats of maybe 90%.

I miss about 50% of greens per round, with a fair few 'misses' being on the fringe or within a few feet of the green. From there, it's often a case of rolling a Texas wedge up to the hole. This not only helps the decent up-and-down stats, it also keeps the putts per round down.

My poor GIR is why 34+ putts per round can be a killer to my cards.

I had 32 putts last weekend - only including those actually on the green.

I can think of 2 that I definitely should have holed.

26 putts would be amazing!

What shot tracking app (ios) does everyone use? I use Gamebook but really don't like the updated interface. Off to Rodway Hill on Saturday for 18 then another 9 on Sunday. Anyone played it? Any advice? Haven't played for a month or two so hoping for 30 points!

I'm on Android, but use FreeCaddie a lot - don;t use the shot tracking etc, but it's great for yardages - gives you front middle and back and also a Google Maps link so you can work out distances to a particular point. Have verified how accurate it is every chance I get against Bushnells, Garmins etc, and it is bang on accurate.

I did try Golfshot for tracking, but it seemed a bit of a faff if I'm honest.

I started out using Hole 19 which was quite good (and free for the basic functionality) but have now gone the whole hog and am using the Game golf kit. Early days yet but it's starting to show some interesting stats and indicate areas to focus on to improve.

I also have a Bushnell Ghost attached to the bag as I find that so much quicker when in play, just trundle up to the ball and know your yardage rather than having to get the phone out, input pin number etc etc. It's good for courses where you know the overall layout but if you play a lot of new courses regularly it might not be the best device as no hole maps on it.

As above, I use the Scoresaver2 software on my laptop. Once courses have been setup, it's pretty straightforward to enter a round.

In addition to fairways & greens hit in regulation, you can even enter whether you missed the fairway right or left, and the green left, right, short or long.

Just need to be disciplined and enter the bad rounds as well as the good !

Intriguing - tell me more! Online info club by club seems a bit scanty.
In a nutshell, harks back to the early part of the 20th century. Golf clubs would offer cheap golf and free land for a clubhouse to be built to cater for 'working class' golfers in exchange for work on the golf course.

Nowadays, for our club, it means we have to spend 2 or 3 mornings a year helping divot the fairways. And when I say morning, I mean 2 to 3 hours. But each club is different.

For that, and a cheap yearly fee, I get to play a top 30 in the country course weekly.

You'll need to get in touch with the respective Artisan clubs as mentioned above. It's pretty much a closed shop, they don't have to or have the inclination to advertise so you'll have to sniff it out yourself.

But it's worth the effort! Bear in mind there will be distance restrictions (e.g. you must live a maximum of 3 miles from the club).
Thanks very much, I'll certainly look into it!

Just been to the driving range to swing a club for the first time in 2 years due to a dodgy right shoulder and then dislocation of left shoulder.

Apart from being truly shocking in the bunker and the driver having a mind of its own it went ok. Got slightly confused by being able to hit my 3 wood and 4 hybrid off the deck which I couldn't before I stopped. Hoping to join my local club in the next week :-)

Good work! How do you feel this morning? Any pain in the shoulders?

Cheers it's nice to be back :-)

Thankfully not to bad, my left hand (right handed) is a touch sore, probably from doing no warm up and going straight in to trying to kill the ball XD and my shoulders don't hurt at all woo!!

What a knob, a week before the first qualifier. ...... just shot a gross 66 (-5) in a comp where it doesn't even count.
7 birdies, 2 x twos with only 2 bogeys. Golf is easy tongue out

Not sure if thats counted as peaking early or hitting the season in form. Either way really really enjoyed the round.

That's some brilliant scoring.

In other news I managed to hit the roof of our pro shop this morning...135 to the pin, up hill, into a light wind and I take a 9 iron...a club or so too much - oops!

Only 7 holes (a loop on one of the courses) for me this morning owing to some other commitments after for me and the guys I was playing with. Won the first 3 skins but again went to pot 40% of the way through, chipping was top notch though which is a bonus smile

My Galvin Green trousers leaked the week before last, around the knees. They're around 2 and half years old.

I had a whinge and my Pro sent them off to GG to be check.

Got a brand new pair today! That's good service. Well done Galvin Green.

Nice one, very tidy - great when it all comes together like that smokin

Where was the damage done - two shotting the par 5s, deadly iron play, putting them in from everywhere ?
