What a knob, a week before the first qualifier. ...... just shot a gross 66 (-5) in a comp where it doesn't even count.
7 birdies, 2 x twos with only 2 bogeys. Golf is easy tongue out

Not sure if thats counted as peaking early or hitting the season in form. Either way really really enjoyed the round.
Awesome stuff James!

Missed this! Excellent golf, JNJ! Well done, Sir.

Thanks guys,

First qualifier of the season Saturday for me.

Is everyone ready for the new season or are people still searching for that perfect swing thought?

I think I was ready for the season in January (although not shooting a 65 ready, that's awesome scoring) if I'm honest, sadly due to work commitments and some appauling weather since then I seem to have gone backwards slightly. Still, went out on Sunday and some of the signs from January were back, arrow straight drives and controlled iron shots (including a knock-down 4 iron from about 175 yards away into the wind, which dropped and grabbed 8 feet from the pin). First comp is on Saturday, so let's see how it goes.

I'd like to sharpen up a bit before the comp season starts.

New irons are working pretty well. Distance is maybe 10 yards shy of what we were seeing on Trackman / Flightscope but I'll put some of that down to the weather we've been having. Othet than that, very straight, very forgiving, nice flight and new grooves means lots of grip.

Approach play from within 80 yards is poor at the moment. I'm either leaving myself too far from the hole for a decent birdie chance or I'm more often than not chipping and 2 putting from just off the fringe.

I know it's mostly confidence. That said, the grip on my (90 yards and in) lob wedge is original and thin, whereas I had MCC Plus 4 grips fitted to the rest of the clubs in my bag. This means my trusty LW now feels alien compared to the rest of the bag. It's in on Saturday to have a fatter grip fitted - hope that helps to improve things.

Good luck to all for this weekend.

Anyone else here into watching Youtube golf vlogs etc?

Mark Crossfield

Mark is absolutely killing it lately. His daily vlogs are great fun and always enjoyable, his on course reviews are brilliant, and his Golf vlogs with Lockey, are a mixture of fun and excellence!

Rick Shiels/Pete Finch

I really like this pair, completely different to Crossfield, not as fun, but very good content, and discussions. Quality of golf is good, and the Dan Whittaker lessons are very good.

GGSwingTips Golf

If you're in good shape (I'm not), then this guy is amazing when it comes to the golf lesson videos. I really like his style, he is very cool, dealing with young, presumably rich, kids.

I am loving youtube for my golf fix. F U Sky for stealing all my Professional Golf viewing!

I've been following Crossfield since him and Lockey messed about and hit a golf ball off an iPhone back in the day! Both managed to hit a ball clean without destroying the phone, not sure Lockey could do that now! Quite enjoyed the Gorilla James days too...not sure if he's still competing in long drives or not though?

Check out Me and My Golf on youtube. Really like the instruction Andy and Piers give, 90% of it being very simple and would help a lot of golfers, especially their chipping videos.

I played 18 at a course i didn't know at the weekend and managed 31 points which wasn't too bad considering the greens felt like they were the sizes of postage stamps, tough little course. That'll probably be my last round for a while, just about to buy our first house so other commitments unfortunately...although there is a course no more than 5 minutes from us, might have to pop down and see about becoming a member hehe

Might impressive 65 James! Keep it up!

I'm having a couple of hours at Urban Golf in London this evening - first time I'll have hit a ball since Boxing Day - should be fun, not least because they bring you beer.

ETA - JNJ, that's quality stuff.

Have to agree about Crossfield - he's really stepped up recently. He seems to have got rid of the silly videos where all they did was muck around (and play poor golf).

I like his on course testing at Dawlish, and his Tuesday vlogs are entertaining and interesting.

I have to say that Rick Shiels has gone the opposite way for me, I find him quite irritating to watch and he seems to think a lot of himself these days. Pete Finch is good.

Crossfield doesn't take himself too seriously and knows his limitations - Shiels thinks he something special and then makes a fool of himself during Open qualifying, etc.

I know what you mean, still enjoy Shiels though.

Crossfield for me is just brilliant. He is a good golfer, funny, entertaining, but most of all, very Human, with his flaws showing just as much as his good points, not fake iykwim?

His vlogs with his family are really sweet, I love them, and I think he has nailed the social media thing lately.

Really lovely biggrin

rofl

I watch all the usual suspects as well on my daily train journeys!

Just to add to the list:

Fried Eggs Golf (Randy is great!)
Improve My golf (Fun to watch as Carters lost his insane Driver hitting skills and now uses 3-wood to keep it in play, camera skills need work though)
Matt fryer Golf (He's started to work up a following)
Golf Vlogs UK (This guy just says it how it is on his golf vlogs, entertaining amateur)

Haven't even heard of any of these guys, will check them out. Anyone else see Crossfields review on the new irons from Wilson? I've got a set of the original FG Tours and love them. Might have to look at the FG 100's when i come to replace my set. He made some interesting points about club fittings too...

I have the FG62 blades, beautiful clubs! I believe Rick Shiels will be playing the FG Tour v6 irons this year smile

Wilson Staff have always made great quality clubs.
