Went out at 4 this afternoon for a solo round, first bit of nice weather we've had for many months. Younger chap wandered up behind on the 1st obviously also on his own so we agreed to go round together. Turns out he's a South African chap on 14, I'm on 17, we had an excellent relaxed round, he got 38 points and I got 40,. 11 over par for me is the best round I've ever had, totally made up. He gave me a smashing tip for putting which really worked. I love golf.

Quick stableford scoring query....

If you play off a high handicap and happened to hole in one a par three where you got two shots would your card show a negative shot number of -1 and you score 6 points or does it remain at one and you get 4 points?

In stableford you'd always write the number of shots you actually take in the score box as normal and then in the box for stableford points/net score you'd write the points/net score. So in this example you'd write "1" in the score box and the number of points "6" in the stableford box before putting on your poncho, taking your maraca's from your golf bag and dancing around the green

Posted a gross 43 for 9 holes i played this morning, where usually I will struggle to break 100 for 18, including a 15 foot birdie putt on a par 3. My short game is really improving.

Watching golf on YouTube is great, but when oh when will spectators tire of shouting 'in the hole' on every blooming shot? Including the drive on a par 5??

They won't be shouting it next week at Augusta, you even get thrown out for running. Got to love that place smile

Played a my first "competitive" round today in weekday roll up, and played a better ball match play stableford in the four ball.

Good points:
Shot 37 points off 16 which was good
75% of fairways (this is mega for me)
Off the tee and long irons pretty awesome

Bad points:
My short game and putting were (insert your favourite rude word here), from around 130 yards in I probably averaged 4 shots to get down combination of missing the green with the approach or not holing a single thing, think longest I holed was 5 foot all day.
My partner played bad, polite version, contributing on a total of 3 holes and we ended losing 2&1. I don't think I've ever played with someone so negative before.
As I have only just joined and not had a official handicap for about 3 years I have to put 3 cards in to get a handicap so couldn't enter today's stableford competition, which I would have won D-:<

Summary: played ok but need to get my short game and putting better and then I'll be getting my not yet acquired handicap down :-)

Sounds quite positive mate...maybe put your bad short game down to playing with someone so negative? It can be pretty off putting, even if you're having a stormer! Knocking it round in anything better than 36 points is always good though.

Playing my local on Sunday and the weather is shaping up to be perfect down this way, can't wait!

Tiger not playing at Augusta, got to feel it's the end for him competatively frown Would love to see him back competing but I can't see it personally.

Who's everyone fancying? I've got a feeling Rory is going to take it, he's been playing well apart from a few dodgy putts.

Rose is always a good shout round there. If he could hole a few more putts, he'd have a jacket already!

Thinking of putting an each way bet on Rahm at 22/1

Sky Bet paying out to 8th place!

However, can get 28/1 at BetFred (only pay out to 5th place though).

Hmmmm......

Rose at 28/1 also.

Just back from our annual trip to Ashbury in Devon, 18 of us went down this year for much golf and merriment. Played 72 holes over 4 days so am currently a little tired, but came 3Rd overall, winning longest drive and nearest the pin after putting a 5 iron to 2 feet away.

Best round was on the Saturday afternoon on the Pines course, hitting 4 birdies on the way to a 77 (Par 72). What concerned me most about that round was the preparation - 4 pints of Carling in the bar before going out and a hip flask in the way round. Played sober in the morning and got 10 points for 9, then 39 over 18 when I was less sober...pretty sure it's not supposed to happen that way, but never mind.

Played some great shots on the way round though - the lessons are really starting to pay off, was just struggling with my wedge play due to the conditions (it was very wet).

I've gone with Stenson & Fowler (both E/W). Stenson finally knows how to win a Major and is in decent form. And Fowler will win a major at some point soon, especially having a good 3 years with Butch - it's got to pay off sooner or later.
