This isn't too far from you (we go to Benodet so I've driven past this but not played it yet) http://www.golfdecornouaille.com/

I did look at this course and it looks really nice. Will try and get a tee time. I'm also looking at Domaine & Golf de Vaugouard: https://www.vaugouard.com/fr/page/hotel-avec-golf.... and a few others for the first week in Brittany.

How’s everyone’s emergency pre season practice?

My course still on the temps but did play greetham again the other day a few holes shut but it’s very impressive imo

A grass range! I’m very envious, I don’t think there are any around here.

I’m at the mercy of the weather, I’m dying to get out but I just wouldn’t manage to stay upright around the course with it still being this wet and soft frown

This was the big sell to me compared to the other courses around Peterborough. They’ve all suffered this winter

Anyone played Diss south of Norwich? It’s a reciprocal at my club long way from me but it’s heathland ideal for a wet spring

After some very promising golf in the past 12 months, my game went missing the last couple of weeks.
I was consistently shooting HC rounds or way below, but the last month i've been playing to an equivalent 25 HC. (off 10).
I couldn't hit an iron, a putt, a chip or a drive. So frustrating.
So i've spent some considerable time at the range in the last couple of weeks trying to get everything reset.
My driving & chipping/pitching usually being the strongest section of my game entirely deserted me & i compounded errors. I opened my last round with 3 x doubles in the first 3 holes & only managed 2 x pars over 18.
I had my monthly coaching lesson this week & a bit of driver reset from my coach, which has done wonders, my usual total drives were around the carry shown on the below. Whilst not perfect, it's a considerable improvement & i'm really happy with the 'move' he's now got me doing.
My 112mph swing speed was my entirely maxed out swing before, however creating the 'whip' effect with my driver, i was able to replicate this below without having to apply maximum swing out of my boots effort.

My eldest came down with me, he’s always had an interest but keen to do more this year. He’s 14, and outgrown the US kids club he had been using. There seems to be a bit of a gap in clubs for teens, do they go to women’s clubs at this age and size? He’s slight for his age so concerned about weight, he’s at the point I was playing a lot so don’t want to put him off at all.
Yes, ladies clubs are a solution. My 11 year old is big for his age and needed bigger and better clubs, but at the right weight. Not cheap stepping up to proper clubs, but if he's keen then the right option.
Having the same with my 13yo. He’s 5’9” so fits into mens clubs, but not quite strong enough yet to manage them.

So he has a mens Ping G410 driver with a lighter shaft, an Adams 5 hybrid with a light shafts, and Ping ladies irons, that he will probably grow out of shortly.

Buying good second hand clubs means I can sell them on and it not cost me too much. I’ll probably make money on the Ping irons as they were very cheap.

I’ve done a deal with him that I will buy him a new set of clubs when he breaks 100 round our 65 course.

I’ve got a set of Ping Prodi G to sell that are at their maximum length. If anyone is interested. They were re-shafted a few months ago and hardly used since as the boy grew out of them.
Thanks both - both kids are booked in for a lesson on Monday and they'll be able to try a few different options out. Women's clubs def seem to be the better option for the older one.

Try ed playing yesterday after work, and have to say it was a complete waste of time. I've been at Stone for 30 odd years, and that was by far the wettest I've ever seen without being closed. No standing water, but just completely sodden turf that took most of the fun out of the game. Greens were on good condition considering, but the rest of the course just wasn't fun.

Swing pretty well and was taking my Driver on holes I'd normally chicken out with good results, but the rest was meh. Irons weren't travelling very far due to my inability to compress a ball on mud, then then they landed they stayed in their plug marks, never to be seen again.

Apparently there was a heated debate in the clubhouse at lunchtime on of we were opening the course for opening it's sake, and I entirely agree. OK it helps bring revenue into the bar, but can't be doing the course much good.

So back to range work for a while whilst things dry out, with maybe a visit to The Chase on Sunday - being built on an old quarry it drains much better than clay based Stone.

I've been sent an R&A version of this https://www.bigga.org.uk/news-listing/golf-course-...

Interesting reading and not good if you have 2.5 green keepers more bothered in reading the daily sport than maintaining your golf course.

Great day at West Hill yesterday!

Really nice course, very enjoyable with some stunning holes. Can only imagine what it looks like with the heather in bloom. Considering how much rain we’ve had it was in great shape! Highly recommended. Wouldn’t fancy the approach to 18 in front of a baying crowd on a summers evening!! No blobs, too many 1 pointers and my ball racks up 54 holes without loss, might retire it….

That was probably the strongest wind I've ever played in.

3 club wind at times, but nice to get out and finished with a birdie
Also picked up my new 3 wood, TSR2+ (slightly deeper face compared to a standard 3w). Initial impressions are favourable..should be the bag set for 2024...

Yep, Woking have a ladder if you overshoot through the 14th approach....you play it off the roof, think windows are currently £60 a pop if you break one

I'd be worried for anyone sitting on those benches behind the green if I'm approaching.
