HNY to all PH Golfers!

Targets for the year:

Get HI back below 8 (currently 9.2)

Play some new courses (Morfontaine amongst others on the radar)

Generally improve my irons and approach play!

Good luck all!
Morfontaine....the funniest course I've ever set foot on!!! Go play it..its like sunningdale meets faulty towers.....in a fantastic way

I like the look of Morfontaine, How have/will you get on though?

Lot of good golf around Paris, couple of mates played Joyenval in a seniors comp last year and said it was nice. It's easily commutable for me as well getting the ferry from Poole/Cherbourg.

Probably likely to be rather expensive though and limited on good weather months!

Started in Sep'23, seem to be around a 27 HCP at the moment.

I'd like to get down below 20, play as much as possibe and just enjoy it. It'll be nice to play in the summer in comparison to the conditions it's been for half the journey so far.

New Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke released today.

Looks a lot better than the leaked images. Gonna check with my Pro for when the fitting heads will arrive in the shop. Interesting that they've gone back to the Tensei Blue for this launch (2023 Paradym was Hzrdus Silver)

Will it be longer? Probably not
Will I still potentially buy it? Probably hehe

I saw alot of the YT reviewers released there videos on the driver. Not seen the marketing material but no doubt its their longest, most forgiving driver ever biggrin

Not sure I really trust any of the YT guys anymore. Club Champion are probably the best although it's amazing how far Ian hits the ball considering his ball speeds...

Imo, the best iron reviewer is Askgolfnut, the detail, and ability to hit mists/slower chs shots etc, he's brilliant.

I've just looked that club up and it seems more difficult to get into than Augusta! It does look like a lovely course, quite reminiscent of somewhere like Sunningdale.

Happy New Year everyone.
My aim this year is to get below 20 , been playing off 28 for 5 years since I started.

I get a mixed bag of results every time I play , to the point im accused of being a bandit or mates laughing 😀

Started by going to the local pro who is sorting my swing and I’m spending a few sessions a week just putting .

Not getting to play much due to the conditions, my local course is a 300 yard walk to the 1st tee, but it’s been unplayable for 3 months, luckily we can travel to The Manor House at Castle Coombe which is in amazing condition.

Thank you. The main areas I need to focus are a) keeping driver out of trouble and b) short game. With regards to a), at one point driver was the best club in my bag, but as I've added distance and improved my irons it's now where I'm more likely to let myself down.

What is the latest on your course, is the bunker work completed or is there now the other 9 to do?
That’s golf. As you figure one thing out, another part of your game goes missing. Occasionally it all comes together to give you hope.

All the bunkers are complete now on the front 9 and it’s open to play when the weather permits. But there is a lot of work still to do to paths and tidy up the mess made by the large machinery that was used.

There are a lot of areas GUR including the bunkers, which won’t be getting sand in them till spring. To give the lsoil chance to settle and wash away so not to ruin the £75k of sand that’s going in.

The back 9 is being done this year starting at the end of September.

I got bloody lucky and was offered a space to make up x8 golfers with my dad and my best mates dad..we had to do all the driving though!

Did chantilly, Paris national and international, les bordes and Morfontaine.

The rest of the group had R and A memberships Inc. a Loch lomond member, a top 5 uk club captain and some old school golf society connections thrown in...

Doubt they'd let me through the gate on my own!

As already mentioned, top courses are almost always a case of 'who you know' unfortunately.

It is unfortunate, it would be good if you could get tee times at these spectacular exclusive courses if you won competitions at your home club.

England golf is the shambles here, how much is a round on the "Home of England Golf"? (Don't get me started on them).

I know such things do exist - for instance our Club Champions (Full, Senior and Lady) all got invited to an event for Club Champions at JCB, which was a cracking day for all involved.

In fairness I don't think £80/£100 a round off peak is bad for the Hotchkin Course (£150 in the summer).

And I don't think that the top courses give a toss about what England Golf could do, either. Many of them are private members only courses - England Golf won't have any sway with them.

As real golf isn't really a possibility in Lake Staffordshire currently I'm just back from a range session which overall went pretty well, despite a case of the lefts appearing halfway through.

However I did notice something curious, which I'm not sure if it's a Toptracer issue or something else, but with my irons, I didn't seem to be hitting anything above a 7 iron any further than the 7 iron itself, despite the ball speed increasing each time?

For eg, my 7 iron was registering about 115 mph and going about 170 yards, my 6 iron was registering 122 mph for the same distance - all the way up to my 4 iron which was 130 mph plus but the same 170 ish yards?

The range is slightly uphill, and I can usually see a distance difference between my longer clubs on the course, but today it seemed 170 with an iron was my max.

Is this a range ball/TopTracer thing or something I should be concerned about?

Not completely into knowing how TT works but I think it's primitive to take this stuff with a pinch of salt.

It triangulates two cameras AFAIK and probably works out your launch angle, the 6 iron was maybe higher?

I’m never convinced by the numbers on these.

Yesterday I was at the one near me and it was telling me that my 7 iron was carrying 35 yards further than I know it does.

The ball compensation was on and there was a 1 club wind but it seemed well out of whack for me.

I then played a round of 9 and while I hit a few nice shots, I certainly hadn’t added 35 yards to my 7 iron!

I take range distances as a rough guide only, certainly not concrete proof of what I can hit.
I'd say my 7i is generally 170-175, but recently I had one range shot saying I hit it 192! rolleyeshehe
