well lads - enjoy the game where ever you may be watching it; put the boots into the poms on here if yr a dinki di Aussie as I'll be gracing the Walkabout in Sheps Bush with my insolent prescence during the final and won't be busy gloating (or getting kicked) on here. Catch u all post match for the usual dissection & sledgefest - good luck the Green & Gold - they deserve the win for sure, but there are 11 very determined half back flankers who will have sumfin to say about that first I'm sure!

Are we giving up on this thread because stropodile dundee is off drinking in his London Aussie bar?

RAIN what does that mean when one side have had a bat with reduced overs?

Come on Sri Lanka, save us from the endless gloating.

SL 110-1 after 18 overs Australia were 122.

WTF is going on? 38 instead of 36 overs? Looks like it's gloating time for the Australians.

What a shame, it's ended a bit of a farce.

TBH I cant believe they gave the final to Bucknor. He's 60 years old and has been in decline for years. It was bound to end in farce. What a shame. What a bunch of complete wankers the ICC are.

Yes, the end was a farce but that's the ICC for you.

They should have never offered the light to be honest. That's the stupidity of it. Seemed t me it was Aleem Dar and not Bucknor who was calling the shots.

Well done the Aussies although it pains me to say it of course. They were by far the best team in the WC. England will never come close to winning it unless there is a complete overhaul of the whole system in the UK.

Well done to SL as well for amking a fist of it unti the weather closed in.

Well done the Australian's.

Without a shadow of a doubt they were the best team.

As for Gilchrist, what a god. I play cricket at a decent level & can recognise that Ponting will go down as one of the best batters ever to play the game, however, as a batter would truelly wish that if I could ever possess the talent of any player, it would be that of Gilchrist.

In my eyes the guy is a living legend & I hope he continues for the months to come in the same form.

It will be a sad day for me when Australis drop him in favour of thier obviously younger talent.

Not sure that'll happen - well not from the one-day team at least ... I think he's deserved to make his exit when he wants.

Could he make it to the Ashes in 2009? Maybe ...

No gloating here, just a very fuzzy head after watching all night.

In his speech Ponting did say that the players were never satisfied with their form and always looked for improvement.

This attitude must be adopted by the other countries if they wish to compete successfully on a regular basis.

As for Gilly, quite an extraordinary innings in the final, still don't rate his keeping though, I feel Haddin is much better behind the stumps.

I played against Phil Emery quite a few years ago, he played for the same club as Gilly and Gilly couldn't get a run with the gloves unless Phil was on state duties and as a consequence he moved to Perth and got a run with WA.

Healy retired and as they say, the rest is history.

Gilly is class. Ponting quite the opposite. Whatever, well done to the convicts, they could not have put in a more complete performance. I can't wait until the roles are reversed though, 'cause I am sick of seeing the Proteas do so dismally. I take heart when I remember the '92 Aussies though, they seemed to have been more or less where the Proteas are now, then. Give or take a choke.

Well done HVS, your boys pulled through. Please lose something soon though, I can't take it :P

you don't seem very happy hsv

as for Bucknor and Dar, what a PAIR of clowns, Bucknor is as deaf as a post when Jayasuriya clipped the ball early in his innings and Gilly held the catch and then Dar finished off a ridiculous umoiring session with a total lack of commonsense.

When they showed what the light was like without the enhancement of the cameras you have to question the umpires , anyone could have been hurt in those conditions.

Ponting could have put on 2 speed merchants to highlight the stupidity of the situation but mercifully put on slow guys to get the overs out the way.

I missed Gilly's innings because of the late start and then see SL make a good fist of it until Clarke got him out.

I think that was the turning point for the game because while SJ was there they had a chance but once he was gone it was all over.

Well done the boys adn well batted SL considering the atrocious conditions they played under.

SA need more players with the grit of their first team after re-admission, those guys had balls of steel.

As for your last line, we are all about to get a kicking from the sheepshaggers, the RU world cup is just around the corner.

With the players they've got and if they were allowed to, I guess they would fill all four spots in the Semi's yikes

I thought the same thing, Punter comes across as arrogant in his assessment of the games but I think he is listening too much to Buchanan and acts like his sock puppet. He should have just let his and the teams actions speak for itself rather than humiliating ALL the other teams the way he did in his speech.

Still it will be another mill or two in his pocket with endorsements now so why should he care (he should )

Gilly looked like he was calling a lot of the shots anyway from behnd the stumps

It's normal in any game for the keeper to provide substantial, he has the best view of the angles.

Great win for Gilly - he was the difference bewtween the sides. Aus 172-1 with Hayden just 38!! Gilly was playing a different game out there. Without it, we may have mafe 230-240, which never would have been enough against SL.

Not sure what Ponting said after the game - he comes acroos to me as a confident captain of the best team in world cricket - not sure if that is arrogance.

Anyway, well done the boys!!

sign of a TRUE champion... always contributes to the team, has not had a spectacular WC with the bat but the runs he got were always qik.. then comes the big one & he gets a century that was worth more than a century in every other game this comp..
