And then there is the greatest team that one day cricket has ever seen. Punter is a fcukin legend love or hate him.... sure he talks the talk but at the end of the day he walks the walk too.

Well done to SL - they are a great side and also show a lot of spirit - my fave thing about them is that they always play their own game. Sad for them to lose under farcical circumstances but they will be back and winning agin soon - they deserve it.

So the cock up was that Rudi Koertzen told the umpires on the field and also match ref Jeff Crowe that three more overs had to be bowled to finish the match - even though 20 had been bowled already - which constitutes a match ...

Which is why they have the Ducky Lewis method you idiot - to count down the overs that they lose and adjust the target accordingly.

And they all fell for it. The dozy pillocks.

BBC website said:

"It was unfortunate, a very sad way to finish the World Cup," said Speed, who was hit on the head by a falling ICC logo at the start of the news conference.

hehe

Question though: since they have a reserve day for all matches (at least from the Super Eights on), why not first come back on the second day if weather interferes, and only then if the match can't be completed with 50 overs a side bring in the crap (IMHO) D/L system?

They should have that provision - especially for the final.

It could have turned into a 20-20 game which is not how the World Cup should be decided.

But four umpires plus the match ref should not have got this decision so wrong.

What would have happened if, in the gloom, SL had bashed 70 off those last three overs with fielders unable to see the ball and won? Unlikely I know but what if? McGrath would have been doing more than shaking his head ...

Has it finished? The whole thing has been on for too long really.

I've heard people talking about cutting the time down from 47 days, they think they can do the WC in 30 days. Surely to keep everyone fit and interest up throughout the known world, not just Australia is to have a group stage of 4 teams each playing each other once, the top two from each group go through as normal. But they don't go into these protracted Super Eights, instead they go straight into a knockout stage until you end up with 2 teams in a final, then you will have plenty of time to have the final over two days if you need it.

Result - World Cup cricket in 3 weeks not 6.

12 days for group stage (1 game from 2 groups per day)
Rest day
Quarter finals - 2 games each day ( 2 days)
Rest day
Semi-Finals one on each day (2 days)
2 rest days
Final.

= 21 days (3 weeks)

Perfect 4WD except I'd want the four quarters on four separate days - none being played at the same time?

Where have you been on this thread - is this your first post on it?

Just come back from a month in Barbados watching the cricket. Firstly what a place. The country and the people are simply amazing. We stayed in a house in Inch Marlow, which is totally Bajan and hardly any tourists. Got involved with the locals bank holiday parties (amazing fish soup), Buffys local Rum shack was awsome. 14 Bajan Dollars for 5 double rum and cokes and the best local rum. (£1 = 4 Bajan Dollars).

From an England point of view the cricket was dissapointing, with the exception of the Eng vs WI game, which was by far the best game of the tournament for every reason. The ground was packed full of locals as they started letting the locals in for free from 11 when they realised tons of Indian and Pakistan supporters wee not coming. Bar the final this was the only game in Barbados that was anywhere near full.

The other dissapointing thing was the ICC made it a cricket world cup in the West Indies, rather than and West Indies world cup. Everything was expensive in the ground and all the local people were simply priced out of it. Chicken, rice and peas and a beer for just over £8, plus the 25 US Dollar ticket price resulted in next to no Bajans in the ground at all, till they started letting them in free. The rues and regulations of getting into the ground and then being in the ground were also ridiculous.

That aside, Australia were simply awsome. No team got even close to them and rightly so, they were that good. Gilchrists final innings was simply a joy to watch. I thought their bowling would let them down, but although not great, they bowled very sensibly and disciplined.

Take nothing away from the Aussies but i thought Sri Lanka got a really bum deal in the final. I can tell you the rain was seriously heavy and didnt stop for several hours. There was no way a decent game of cricket was going to be had that day. The Aussies came in a blasted their way to an amazing score, but there was no way Sri Lanka, in the conditions they were going to face, the light, the wet pitch getting worse, possible delays for rain etc were ever going to get close. Which was a major dissapointment.
Tough call to change it to the next day as a load of supporters would have missed it as they had flights, but possibly the right thing to do in terms of a totally fair game.

All the supporters out there, where ever they cam from, were superb. Had some great fun, especially with the Goon Squad from Melbourne (1-0 to England in the dance off boys).

Haven't had a better 4 weeks ever.

I know Hayden broke the World Cup, i know Symo had a massive go at the ICC Chairman on their flight to New York, i know all the playes were seriously pissed off at having to play 9 and a half week tournament. I know that Collingwood, Nixon, Joyce, Monty, Hussey, Ntini and Greame Smith are all legends for seeing them out in Harbour Lights and the Boat Yard and havig some good chat. Andre Nel is a total and utter *****.

N'tini is a total maniac on the dance floor. Really top bloke, will try and post pics of us in our 80's aerobic outfits with N'tini in the Boatyard when poss

Thank for that odd little game called "rugby" and the Super 14. I don't even pretend to like it, but tonight I am glad that it exists... Blue Bulls (SA team) put down the Reds (aussies) 92-3! It eases the pain of the world cup cricket just a mote.
