Sky Sports News had Roeder been called to an emergency meeting flashing across the bottom of the screen about half 7.
Didn't think he'd last the summer so no suprise. Think he's a good coach, but no manager material. Has had a very difficult season, but they need a top coach up there.

Can see Allardyce getting it and i think he'll do well. Needs to buy a couple of decent centre-backs before anything!.

How strange on Saturday Roeder was quoted as saying he was planning for next season (at Newcastle I presume) then yesterday he has resigned What happened there then?

Always thought Roeder was a strange choice anyway. One assumes Big Sam is lined up but after the way Shepherd treated Robson will any decent manager want to go there?

Just announced on local radio that Newcastle have informed the stock market that Roeder has resigned and a new manager has been appointed.

Wonder if we'll still get Sidwell and Crouch

As a Reading fan I'm amazed we've let Sidwell go out of contract. Much better to have sold him in Jan and got a few quid as the ungrateful little sod is obviously intent on leading the club that made him.

Get Shearer in the job. Just cos I want to see him and Roy Keane squaring up to each other during next season's Tyne/Wear derbys!

Pity Robson is back in hospital. If it wasn't for that then they could have done far worse than having a Robson/Shearer combination with Robson as a director of football.

its not often you can praise Shephard but he has learnt from one past mistake. Sack the coach now and let the new one build their squad over the summer. Don't let the old one spend 50 million in the transfer window then sack him a few days after it closes.

Looks like Sidwell is already looking elsewhere - linked with Chelski and Liverpool amongst others. Since we're so close to the window reopening Shepherd can't hang around. Whoever comes in will want time to assess the squad and buy decent players before they've already all moved. So it needs someone who either knows the squad or has had a fortnight or so off work to study them...

He has been linked to a number of Premiership clubs as well as French club Marseille. Eriksson fared well in a phone poll for fans over possible candidates that was carried out by a Newcastle radio station, although he is not believed to be high on chairman Freddy Shepherd's shortlist.

Indeed, in April, Shepherd dismissed rumours that the former Lazio boss was being lined up to replace Roeder. Reports have suggested that Allardyce will be installed at the St James' Park helm and some bookmakers have suspended all betting on such an appointment. Allardyce, who stepped down from his Bolton position on 29 April, turned down the chance to manage Newcastle just under three years ago. However, there have also been suggestions that Houllier could be in the running.

Houllier left Anfield in May 2004 and led Lyon to a record sixth successive French title this season. Meanwhile, former Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson has urged the fans to unite behind the next manager. Robson, who supported the Magpies as a boy and who was axed from the Magpies helm in 2004, told the Daily Telegraph: "It is a massive club and I just hope they can get the right man. "Whoever it is can succeed. They need all the support of the board and the fans and, with the support of everyone, it is a wonderful job."

Former England boss Robson sat alongside Newcastle chief Shepherd during Saturday's defeat by Blackburn, which was Roeder's last game in charge, but refused to speculate on who might take over the hot-seat. True that!

Whilst Sven is a capable manager, his lack of passion on the sidelines was always a concern, perhaps with a decent #2 at his side...Shearer, for example, then we'd see some real interesting times ahead of us.
