can't go training tonight as i'm in clinic until 9pm so did my own little session earlier.

1.75 mile warm up getting to the place, 5x0.7 mile reps (was from a gate to another gate on an off-road trail) with 2mins recovery. was tough on my own and didn't work overly hard but was still working pretty hard. average pace over the reps was 5:46 so not too shabby for me, but then i've been averaging that over 5x1 mile reps with the group! so much easier with others; then another 1.75 miles back

Feeling really down today. According to my own diagnosis i've a feeling i'm staring with a stress fracture on my right femur. Will give it a few days rest and if it's still the same will book my self in at the docs. hopefully I'm wrong but this doesn't feel like muscle pain cry:
how old are you? stress fractures of the femur are rare.

does it only cause pain when doing activity? what about at rest? night?
I'm 21. It doesn't really hurt when running too much but I'm thinking I'm at the very early stage of it. It hurts more when I tried the 'hang test' if you know what I mean. Where you hang the end of you leg off a surface and push down an at the point where it hurts is where the fracture is. It doesn't really hurt at night but I can feel a very slight tingle sometimes and I have been running all road recently an have increased my mileage maybe a bit too fast.

Go for it, I can assure you that after 9 months of very little running that the opportunity to do a 20 miler is one I would relish. I'm just back from 9 this morning which is my longest run since London last year and makes 20 for the week for me

Thanks TJK... I did it. I'm still a long way off the pace I had last summer but I am slowly getting back to something I'm happy with.

Other than feeling stiff and heavy legged for the first few miles I didn't really feel tired at all during the run physically, but I seem to be struggling mentally - the will to keep going for 2 - 2.5 hours is just not really there at the moment!

Well done on your continuing recovery - it must take some self discipline not to over do it!

Hope your legs feel ok. I usually go for a short (3-4 mile) cycle after a long run. It seems to sort my legs out and removes the lactic from them.... Well done on getting out there!!

My recovery will take some time, but just happy to get 20 miles for the week smile

They are giving me the odd gentle reminder that I've done the miles but I've had a lot worse.

Perhaps helped in part to the fact that rather than stop running and immediately go shower as I probably would usually do I actually got my route wrong and after the 20 miles I walked 5 minutes to the nearest taxi rank and got a cab home - I wasn't going to run another 4.5 miles!

Crikey, UpTheIron, that's quite a pace for a 20 mile training run! How long did it actually take you?

I did one yesterday and was pleased to manage to do it in just under 3.5 hours, Setting off just before dawn to make the most of the day. It's 6 mins per kilometer and that was heavy going at the end. I did finish off with 5 x 50m sprints to tidy things up but my legs felt heavy this morning. The dogs were glad to get back and have their breakfast too.

Anyone running in the Rome Marathon?

And today I...

Running earlier around the river path near us. Part of it is about 20-30ft above the river and very rooty. Slipped on a wet root, went down like a sack of spuds, fell halfway down the cliff. Walloped my head, bu99ered my leg (couldn't walk) almost puked, grazed arm, bruised everything else. Running is meant to be healthy isn't it?

A bit annoying as I've got my mile times back down to decent levels (partly because it's drier!).

Entered an 11 mile coast run (my favourite running type by miles) and doing a few more other events this year. I have come 5th three times in 10k races so want to try and better this!

Good effort. Will you be laid up for a few days now then?

Hi Mike... Saturday took 2:18... far faster than I should really go for a "training" run but at the moment my distance running is lacking confidence... last summer I was happily doing 6:30-ish pace for similar distances and I just can't seem to find that level currently.

Hopefully this will come back with a couple more long runs - I'll be happy to replicate either pace come April 22nd!

Seem to be okay today - bit of a limp, grazes and bruises sore but overall, got off lightly. In fact I'm off for a cycle shortly!

Glad to hear you aren't too worse for wear vlad. I sometimes worry about things like that, I often go running on my own in some rather remote places, if something were to happen I'm not sure I'd get found for a long time.

What are your pbs?

Well the cycle was okay - sore but got a good time.

Running wise, I've only done one 10k road race - a very hilly one and got 40m07s. Gutted I missed the 40m mark! I've GPSed myself at 39m15s for 10k but I don't 100% trust that time/distance. Also done one mostly road 5k and got 18m03s. Again very hilly. Off road varies massively with the terrain My 5k road run at the end of a tri last year (again hilly!!) was 18m43s and I was knackered (came 4th in the running, 19th overall). Off road, I've come 5th twice - once out of 700, once out of 150ish. times weren't anything too special - 42ish for the 700 one and longer for the other one - it was a VERY hilly coastal run.

I want to do a flat race at some stage and see how I do.

How about you? Clearly a keen runner too!

Uptheiron - Do you do many tempo runs? last year when I ran 2:44 for London, I was able to do 20 mile runs in 2:15 without even thinking about them. I did a few tempo runs including 18 miles with 12 at MP which helped and a few 6 milers at sub 6 min miling to increase leg speed.

5.25 miles more on the comeback trail last night.. Up to the Olympic stadium in Barcelona and back home. Slight disruption due to the global mobile conference and a peaceful demonstration, but sub 7 min miling for a reasonably hills route is a good sign. Stretching every day now and it seems to be helping.

TJQ ran a 1:47:xx for BCN half on Sunday off 2 runs a week and it was running not training, so our household is back motivated.... now need to find a race to smash my weak 10k and 5k PB´s

Pb for 10k is currently just over 38 but know I can go under 37. We sound like we are quite similar on the pace front. Taken it easy last 2 weeks due to a cough but seems OK so back to hard sessions tonight!

Cheers

TBH I'd be annoyed if I didn't get around 38m on a flat course. Will find one this year. My problem is, I do a lot of other stuff - and if the surf is good, I'll do that instead. Plus MTBing, swimming, etc. I sometimes love running to bits but only really consider myself a bit of a part timer. Getting temped to take it a little more seriously - I do 95% trail running which is easy to do in Cornwall. Got a nice 11 mile coast race in August. I'll try the 32 miler next year when I have more time to train (1 year old baby means running for more than about an hour is a no no!).

That's going some, faster than my racing speed! What's your marathon personal best?
