i will try to do this, but it might be a case of i might not actually be allowed to join..... frown

i'll see.
I've never known a group refuse to let someone join. I've been dropped off the back of fast groups and been left to find my own way home before though! hehe
will send my coach an email (friendly chap, recommended i move on if i fancy harder training) as he said this other coach can be a bit fussy some times. We'll see.

YOU got dropped....blimey! i'm not averse to training hard and being committed to it, it's just whether i'm quick enough to be in the group. i don't mind being the slowest there, so long as i'm not SO far behind i'm effectively running on my own, then it would be pointless.

Just spoke to a mate from my old group at running (now moved so training at aldershot) and said there are 2 runners in this quick group who are early 17s for 10k so whilst id be the slowest I wouldn't get dropped. Majority of the group around 16 dead, 1 or 2 very early 15s, most just under 15mins and a couple sub 17 then 2 just over 17 for 5k. They train for 5/10k so sounds like the group is should join.

Bournemouth Half for me today .... 1h 37m 44s ... not a PB but close enough to be happy with the result.

There's always someone faster... hehe I've found that some coaches can be a bit weird too but most are fine once you've shown you're willing to work hard.

Is there a typo in your stats here? Couple of 17+, most 16ish, couple of low 15s then you say most just under 15?

Anyway, sounds like a good group to tag onto and work your way up through thumbup

Yes, I meant a few sub 15 hehe most appear to be around the 16 mark. 2 over 17 so at least I know I won't get totally dropped!

Cheers.

You guys will love this. Friend (in the loosest possible term) at uni heard I did a 17:35 5k and he said "I could do that easy, I did a 10k in 50 so half the distance is 25 but I could go quicker for a 5k"

I was just like, errrrr no. Did raise a smile on my face though!

11 miles for me this morning and the same again planned for tonight. Not really the best way to get in a long run for marathon training but needs must sadly. This morning was 6:50 pace... however will do the bulk of tonights miles with one of the slower groups at the running club, so should be a chance for a natter and a bit of a "rest" at more like 8:30 pace.

Must resist the temptation to do the usual interval/speed session tonight biggrin

Tough one today
4 sets of 3x500m, with just 100m jog between reps and 3 mins between sets.

I had a weird session, by the end of the second set I'd been dropped and was ready to pull out, but by the middle of the third set I'd hauled myself back into the group and by the end of the last set was leading out the faster last rep (didn't quite have the legs to finish it off though).
Afterwards I felt I could have done another couple of sets at the same pace (obviously without the faster last rep)

Probably 6-8 miles tomorrow, another track session thursday and then a much needed rest day!

results just up, 7th out of 287....makes me sound a lot better than i am hehe 17:35 was official time too. will add my % to the wiki smile
Congratulations mate, excellent time is that. I knew you'd be touching 17:30 (even though I've never met you) How old are you btw?
I'm 23. mate at training said i should be aiming for 17:30, it's been such a long time since i did a 5k i didn't really have a clue what i had in me, though times at training have been alright.

Having never done any other event/race in my life other than Parkrun, My friend talked me in to doing this Fell Race - http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/races.php?id=1833. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. It must take a totally different type of endurance to flat road running for example, As I was just gasping for air and my legs were burning by the top of the first hill.

I class my self as reasonably fit guy (Parkrun PB is 18:20) to put in a bit of perspective, But I found myself really struggling at times and getting left behind by what I would guess to be 50+ year old women to my amazement eek

The results table is not up yet but I did the 5 miles in ~ 49:14 and i'm not sure on my position but I would guess about 50th out of the 132 nutcases that did it.

A really eye opener for me was that one. Never judge a book by it's cover.
almost 400m climb in 5 miles is pretty heavy going. i'm "fortunate" to be able to do those sort of runs if i want to within a short drive away. there is a hill here i can get to the foot of 1.5 miles from my house and my GPS has it 60m above sea level at the bottom, and at the top it's 350m, all covered in 3-4 miles....it's not THAT steep but boy it drags....good training though. i'm only a 25ish minute drive away from Pen-y-fan too....if i really want a challenge....i'm not that brave though, mind hehe

do you do any hill sessions etc? well done on the run though, sounds like it was bloody hard going!
They've final put the results up and I was 49th so not a bad guess at 50th hehe

I don't do any hill sessions as such but nearly every route I plan I try to involve a good steep hill. The 4.5 mile route I do most often has a bloody steep 0.8 mile hill in it so I'm no stranger to running up hill. Maybe I should devote a session a week to running up an down hills scratchchin I also occasionally run up and down my local dams 480+ steps as many times as I can in 50 mins but haven't been that often recently, if I start doing that again that should help me on the fells.

Yeah i'd be willing to donate £100 to a charity of his choice if he managed to do it, anyone else?

I'll ask him today though I suspect he'll be busy or something hehe

Last night was HARD. Didn't run to training and just as well. 9 miles up a hillside, around a loop at the top and back down. Said hill had an elevation gain of 310m. Very rocky in places so hard to fly on the way down but pace was 7:06/mile

Got my 22 out the way on Tuesday, albeit split into a faster 11 in the morning and a slower 11 with the club in the evening.

A slow 4m with a mate yesterday and then 8x800 this morning.

Not going to be doing anything spectacular at London, I just seem to be 20 - 30 seconds a mile slower than I was this time last year over longer distances. I'm also 10lbs heavier... less pies, less pints and more cycling needed!
