Been ill recently, picked up some sort of virus that made my muscles and joints ache like fk and just physically knocked me for six.
Tried to do an easy run yesterday to ease myself back in but ended up doing some sort of shambolic shuffle coughing like a smoker every 5 strides before eventually vomiting after 1.4 miles. I jogged/shuffled back home to an 8.42 average (usually I can do 7-7:30 for 14 miles on a steady run) and can honestly say I've never felt worse after a run.
Today was much better, still only 3.5 miles but back to my usual pace and managed to keep my food down! I think I'll have to go through a building week before starting back in with the group again.

A pb by 25s in this mornings parkrun. Unofficial time of 20:00 but don't think I stopped my watch instantly so hope its sub 20 as this has been the target for a while now.

Long training run for me today, 11.7km in 1 hour and 1 minute.

Felt slow and towards the end I just wanted it to end so quite pleased.

Not really looking forward to next weeks 14k.......

I'm racing in the Cardiff 10k tomorrow so taking it easy today and stocking up on carbs. Feeling a little under the weather due to being surrounded by ill people at work, so we'll see whether I can hit sub 50 minutes.

I'm doing 10k tomorrow as part of a relay team in the Tatton park triathlon tomorrow. Hoping for a sub 50 min, which will be an all time PB for me.

Did a gentle 2 miles earlier today to try out some new trainers. Very minimalist and I could feel my lower leg muscles working a bit more than usual. Will see how the legs are in the morning before deciding on shoes for the race.

Evening homies.

Long 2hr, 10KM walk with the dog today. A lovely easy way to break back into the routine after 3 days out. Basically the last 2 days cramped up in planes, trains and automobiles as I cross half the Continent and back. Was good to stretch my legs again.

Good luck for those racing today. I took another day off yesterday and today will be another gentle run, before starting winter training tomorrow with a hard session.

Scored a new 10K PB this morning at the Cardiff 10K!

Adopted a negative split strategy as suggested of 8 min miles for the first 5k, though felt very strong at 3k so upped it to 7:50 min miles. Passed the halfway point and opened up the throttle to 7:30 and then did the final 2 miles at 7:10 to bring myself back in at 46:40, over 2 minutes ahead of schedule!

Thirst was not a major issue at the water point and poured more of it over me to cool down. Had a quick chat with a guy running barefoot, wishing him well. Great atmosphere and course, though the starting groups were a mess with me overtaking plenty and not being overtaken once.

Did a Mo-bot crossing the finish! biggrin

Week 8 of couch to 5k started, did 4k in 28 minutes this morning.

To be honest, I'm getting a bit bored with the longer runs, I'll finish the plan as there are only 5 runs left to go, but I want to get back to the interval stuff, but do it at a much faster pace, with a longer slower run once a week.

Good going that.

I did Wetherby 10k this afternoon. 50.46 which is a pb for me. As always though I'm still not happy, I wanted my time to start with a 4.

Next time!

I did Wetherby today too :-) it was a bit warm! Nonetheless I also managed a new pb at 49.09.

A good run and a nice atmosphere.

Great North next weekend, hope It's a bit cooler.

I always run in asics or new balance.

Even the 30-40 quid ones you see in the likes of jjb sports are fine.

Or, you can spend twice that or more and go to a running shop who will make sure you end up with something decent.

I've gone for some of those barefoot style running shoes, looking forward to giving them a try when they're delivered in a few days. Anybody have/tried them?

I've had the same Asics for a couple of years but I keep getting shin splints. Recently I've been getting getting pins and needles below the knee after a few miles.

I'd agree with this.

I went to up and running a couple of years back and got fitted in a pair of asics, now I just go to wherever has the latest version of the same shoe cheapest.

Another 6k for me today but it hurt like hell.

Day off tomorrow and I think I need it although on a plus side pace stayed the same.

Well done to those that it PB's this weekend.

Thanks all, well done to all the new PBs achieved over the weekend - Team GB eat your heart out!

I'm riding the runners' high out and have decided to enter the Bath Half Marathon for next March. Does anybody have any experience of this race? I've heard it's incredibly popular (London Marathon training) and can be a touch crowded for slower runners. The price, an overnight hotel stay and train tickets are already making me wince!

I traditionally do the Silverstone Half in March but my other half complained that she's getting bored of Silverstone and its limited surroundings.
