Cheers Chris - it's not a PB but I was happy with the time, given that my PB was 9 years ago when I was running regularly.

Well, next year I plan to go under 1hr 37 (pb) and the next target is 90 mins - then a 3hr 30 marathon....

Well done Woody - 4hr 10 is still not bad, sounds like you were a good poo off 4 hours.

Well Done to you chaps clapclap

Meanwhile at the other end of the scale haha, the last two weeks i have struggled,i intended to run a steady two miles from Monday till Friday and if i could maintain the two miles in 16 mins then i would move on to pulling out my runs to 2 and a half miles.

Monday was good and the time was accomplished but because of one thing or another the other days were outside the time including a time in 19 mins frown,so last week because i had other things to catch up on i had a week off.

My intentions are to start again today and get back to running every other day.

Can I join in? I have been running about 18 months now, and am really wanting to increase my speed, but do not really know how to work out my interval training. I am slow, though, you have been warned. 10K PB 1:10:31 and Half marathon 2:41 something. Doing a half in 4 weeks and looking as though I will break my PB as I have done a lot of PB breaking this year. Possibly due to increased mileage, and some help from a trainer in my local gym who has set me up with intervals of a sort of the treadmill.

Wow, good to so so many other 'runners' out there and some impressive times too. I've been back at again for nearly eleven years now amazing how much speed I lost in the seven year break though. As a matter of interest, anyone else heading to Newcastle for the GNR next weekend?

I have got to get back up to mileage. Have just entered a half in December. Needed to do that for a terget and get me going again as since the FLM I have only been averaging about 6 miles a week.
Hoping to beat my half PB 1:46.

Just looking on Runners world for 10 week schedules, guess i need to be doing around 35miles a week.
Will be using 5 aside for my speed work as i do an hour of that once a week.

Good luck to anyone doing the Great North Run this weekend - I'll be watching it on tv smile

I've got my second 5k road time trial coming up on Tuesday so we'll see what improvement I've made in the last 4 weeks (including one week completely off when on a road trip round Benelux).

With Windsor Half being cancelled, I'm having a jog around the tough ten and saving myself for a 5k Bushey Park Time trial next week. Good luck to the GNR'ers.

Good to hear of others with targets, let us all know how you get on with achieving them

Good luck this weekend, anyone running.
I am thinking of the windsor 10K. A new race that has been put on due to the cancellation of the half. A multilap race, apparently.

It's at Dorney lake where my clb hold their 10k race. It've very flat and 2x around the lake. Great PB potential, but if the wind kicks in, it's quite tough going. Good parking capability and traffic free all the way

I saw a running thread and thought great, surely this will be more my sort of running than the runners world forums. But alas, you're all fecking quick too!

Just finished the Budapest Marathon in 4 hr 43 mins. Not quick, but 57 mins quicker than my first marathon from last year (Berlin). The race was quite awful, very little support and at times running for long stretches beside a road of crawling traffic, so not the best air quality!

Next is adventure racing. Anyone else done / attempting one of the Helly Hansen challenges?

Great Thread.

I’ve been running for about 9 years now - started when a mate bet me I couldn’t do the Windsor Half in 99(2.08). Followed that with Chicago Marathon (4.08) in 2002, which was a great experience.

Another regular run for me is the annual mid-summer Bracknell Forest Five - PB 38.45 (very happy with that !) Its a nice off-road five miles and I would recommend it.

I’ve struggled in the last 3 years since becoming a father twice ! Find it hard to find the time to train. To get back into it I registered for the Windsor half this year - shame it was cancelled. Anyway having done the training I ran a 'half' today anyway with a friend who had also trained. Did 1.56 so was pleased with that.

I'm going to focus on short distances for a while now - I just ache too much after today’s 13.1 miles. How did I ever manage a marathon ?! I’ve just registered with the Bushy Park / Richmond Park Time Trial 5Ks (http://www.parkrun.com) so maybe see some of you Richmond locals down there on Saturday mornings?

Results from the weekend anyone?

I had a good run at the tough ten finishing 6th in about 73 minutes. When we say tough, it was on trails and there were bundles of hills. Pleased enough, but now heading to Bushy park on 11th October for a fast 5k if I can

How did nyone else do?

Well, it was the second of my monthly 5k time trials/races tonight. In the 4 weeks since the lsat one, I've had one week entirely off and been fairly lazy about getting the mileage in at weekends in general. However, I have been doing some interval sessions with the Bath Uni students and doing between 30 and 40 miles a week.

Did a session last night and an hour of circuits tonight before doing the race. Last month's time was 16:53 (personal worst as a senior) and this month... 16:40. Pretty pleased with that seeing as I did the circuits beforehand and haven't got to full training yet. 5 weeks to the next one so looking for another significant improvement.

A few people on here seem to be runners, so I thought I'd start a thread about running. You can include what you like on here, your training tips, best times, races you are entering etc etc.
Can't believe I've only just found this thread.

I took up running in January 2005 after watching Paula Radcliffe sit down and start crying at the 2004 Olympics and thinking "I bet I could finish a marathon." I didn't find out I'd got a place until the December that year so got kitted out with decent trainers / running gear for Xmas and started training in January for The London Marathon 3 months later.

I had absolutely no idea how to train and the book I bought seemed to be aimed at overweight American's who's only form of exercise was lifting the TV remote and included a guide on "how to be able to walk for 30 minutes non-stop in 'only' 10 weeks". I thought this was complete bollox and started off at 6 miles and added a bit more each week and because I was so crap at recovery I'd only run once a week then ache for the next 6 days before putting myself through it all again the following week. (After longer runs the gap between went up to 2 weeks.) In the end I only ran 15 times between taking up running and running a marathon and the furthest I ran before the big day was the Reading Half which I got round in 1:49 which I was pleased with as all I wanted to do was break the 2 hour barrier. At The Marathon itself I managed to drag myself round in 4:05 and somehow managed to finish in the top third. Having spoken to more experienced runners since then, I gather that my training method may not have been the best!

I've also done the Reading Half three times now, in 2005, 2006 & this year. I would say I did the most training in 2005 when I was training for London and ran a 1:49, 2006 was a bit less training and I ran a 1:45. And I have no idea how it happened but this year even though I entered ages before, I couldn't be arsed with it so I did no training, went out on a bit of a Guinness session followed by pizza at a friends at 1am, staggered home after 2am, in bed at 3am, family lunch on the Saturday where the only thing to eat was a very rare lamb shank that didn't look like it had may carbs in it to me but I went on to run a PB of 1:39 the following day.

So the only training advice I can offer people is......don't! biggrin

Congratulations to you all. My result from the GNR - 1:42:13 a whole 4 seconds quicker than last year, I lost a lot of time in the last three miles which I can't explain, oh well back to training biggrin Anyone doing the GSR? Probably my last road race for a while as the cross country season is looming.

First Cross Country race of the season for me on Saturday (low key start with the Gwent League in Swansea). Anyone else doing XC this winter or are you all sticking to the grippy certainties of tarmac rather than slippy-slidey-muddy fun?

let me assure you that the tough ten was a great trail/xcountry race and very good. I'm doing a local series in berkshire...Might also run Cliveden x country which will be very tough

I'm told it will make me stronger for next year.
