Went to support some mates running the Endure 24 this weekend. Our two teams of 7 and 8 people managed a total of 155 and 135 miles.
The lead solo male did 120 miles in 24 hours, and the fastest team managed 230, with one of their guys doing a total of 40 miles (8 laps of a 5 mile cross country course) in 4:05 with bits of the course looking like this!
We're sorting out a slow team for next year with the intention of probably managing about 115-120 miles between us.

I'd like to say it looked like fun but I would be lieing.
On the subject of pics.....it's been a long time since we did a load of running mugshots. Here's me earlier in the year when I started to get back into half decent shape again - excuse the windswept hair and the "I'm not having a huge amount of fun" look on my face
managed a steady 4 miles this morning. Stomach permitting I shall be gradually increasing my mileage again until I get to a consistent 30-35/week and then try adding in speed again. I've decided that back in December last year I went back into speed work too quickly (went from 30-35miles/week steady running only and did 2-3 weeks of 1 speed session per week before doing a consistent 2 sessions per week and not long until I was doing over 50 miles a week again. I'm in no hurry to do that this time and will do things more slowly (perhaps even 6 weeks+ of just 1 session per week and make that purely LT work (eg 1-2 mile reps).

The solo guys are a different level again. The mental effort needed to do something like that is just amazing.
The state of the on-site showers will give me nightmares for weeks though as they really needed to be cleaned more often given the conditions.

One of me during the final 200m at the recent Caerphilly 10k. Got a mention by the race commentator over the PA system!KTF said:
Our mixed team did 32 laps (160 miles) in total. The thunderstorm before the start meant that from the first lap onwards the course was a mess.
Good work. Our lot were referring to one stretch as the "river of custard" :-D Some of the bits we could see near the start/finish looked bad enough, I dead to think how bad the bad bits were. RizzoTheRat said:

On Sunday morning the bit running through the camp site was pretty bad as there was almost no traction at all and then when it started drying it was like running through a ploughed field. On the sections you couldn't from the camp, you had the peat bog like part in the covered wooded area, a slippery yellow clay mud section, exposed tree roots and ankle deep puddles to deal with in addition to the 'cow pat' hill and a load of other hazards - none of which existed when I walked the track on Friday afternoon.
That was nothing compared to the horrors that were waiting in the showers afterwards though
I did the Chamonix Mont Blanc half marathon this weekend (the Cross); 1700m+ and 700m- 23km in all - I came in 181st/1500 finishers (3h14m), not too displeased as my training had been curtailed.
First run back today as my hamstrings were a little bit fragile yesterday.
There were quite a few runners from Basingstoke RC in town..

I'm planning a Chamonix trip next year for the VK and the Marathon. Was it well organised? Good fun?First run back today as my hamstrings were a little bit fragile yesterday.

I would say that it's well organised. It's well sign-posted, there are some good feeding stations and there is a lot of support. You need to subscribe as soon as the marathon places open, as I missed out this year even though I was on-line clicking refresh every five seconds! The Cross was far enough..

Edit: I expect the places this year went extra quickly as it was the SkyRunning (tm)(R)(C) World Champs race. Next year isn't so hopefully will be slightly less pressure on the places.

Do you remember when the places open? Just so I know when to get the F5 button warmed up!
I'm quite sure that it was October, you'll also need to send a med-cert within one month of subscribing. They kept 200 places open for the Sky Running World championships - Kilian put in his usual effort this year and also won the vertical km!
They dropped the end of the course into the valley due to bad weather.

Cool I'll keep my feeds and ears open for anouncements. Completing the double of the VK and the marathon would be enough for me, nevermind winning either or both! Another 6.5 miles steady tonight......they're all steady runs at the moment but it was with a mate who I hadn't seen for over 4 months so was a great catch up and, as ever, a pleasure to run with someone else again! Sunday was my 1st run with someone else for over 4 months, and now I've done 2 out of my last 3 runs.
Bit sad perhaps but makes me feel like I'm part of something again. Just desperately want this sickness thing to fk off and I can get back to running again. I can assure you that being sick literally EVERY SINGLE MORNING for months on end does drag you down a bit

I went out at lunch time today and was feeling the heat quite badly and was wondering why I was even trying. That was until a dog walker commented that she was amazed I could run in 'this heat'.

I ran a 10k in under 35mins back then and, for me, was in very good shape, the best I've ever been in. Also ran a 1:18 half marathon, 59mins 10mile and sub 17mins 5k. Started making a bit of a come back after a dreaful (injury and sickness) 2013 and back in Feb this year got to half decent shape...was doing about 50 miles per week, was sub 18min 5k shape easily and improving VERY rapidly (that was after just 4-5 months of training) but an injury put stop to that, I get over the injury (I hope) and this fking sickness thing from last year comes back
I'm luckily still able to run 7+ miles at sub 7:30 pace and not feel like I'm really doing any work, but I'll be slow as fk trying any speed work at the moment but I'm not doing any of that until I know my base endurance is there.

Good luck in getting back to full fitness
Reading all your posts just goes to show how much of a long way I have to go! My last run was 5.3 miles in 50 mins. But in my defence I only started going to the gym in jan this year and running since about April, before that I was doing no exercise, and starting at 42 was a bit of a shock to the system!!
