Steadily getting back into things-it's been a rough year for me running wise with only one race and really inconsistent training.

Had a strange run today-thought I was really laboring on my way out on a new trail, then turned around and realised the trail steadily climbed out of town and I had miles of downhill back into town-I flew back!!

I signed up to my local 10k last year having never run before. Bit of training and I crawled over the line an hour and thirteen later....
Ran it again this year, almost quarter of an hour quicker!

Just got back from an acupuncture course this weekend which was really, really good. Was only over 2 days (but only medical professionals could do it as obviously you needed the background anatomy knowledge!) and so I had plenty of needles going into my numerous trigger points, tender spots etc in my legs over the weekend and it may be due to taking an easy week but this evening my legs felt amazing. What's really good is, as well as being able to treat my patients with this, I can also treat myself....though anything other than lower limb stuff would be nigh on impossible! I have very sore spots in my feet, calves, quads, adductors, ITB, glutes, TFL etc that can all do with work. Going to do 2 sessions per week if I can....1 for feet and calves, the other for hip/knee stuff. Can only help.

Sorry to hear you've had a rough time....you and me both mate! Hope you get back on track soon. It's funny, when we were running well we were quite a similar pace, we probably are again hehe

Oh thanks! Yeah I think I'm back on track now-it's not been so rough but I dropped off the hamster wheel and it's hard to get back on again and make running routine! Things like moving house twice, haven't helped too much either!

I can bang out 7 min miles with not much effort atm-but my runs are only 4-5 miles and no sessions right now so races are out of the question! Have you got any races coming up?

I've got a few races coming up but I'm only doing XC - so times are totally irrelevant and they'll really help with my strength. As you may have read I've just had a very easy week for running this week (just got back from a nice 4.2 mile run) but back to proper training next week.....kind of, as I have a race Sunday. Plan is easy 7-8M tomorrow, rest Tues, speed session Weds (3.2M continuous at circa 6-6:15/mile), 3mins rest, 2x1k circa 5:40/mile off 60secs), Thursday and Friday both around 4-5 miles and rest Saturday.

I have changed my training and cut back the Km's.

Two long runs per week and two 3.2k runs with the middle k 'as fast as I can'. Seems to have made a difference not least to my motivation. Running 1k at 15/16kmh hurts like hell but is fun. The longer runs feel easier.

I am doing Chester marathon this weekend, this will be my 5th marathon since i started running in jan 2012, and my 3rd this year.
I did Chester yesterday as well, my first full marathon. It's one of the nicest routes of any race I've run. I'm used to doing halfs, and it seems that most routes are chosen for their "flatness" which results in some really boring runs. The hilly halfs I've done are much nicer generally but no good for a PB (thinking of Eyam and Worksop in particular). The Chester route manages to be fairly flat, and very picturesque at the same time. Also, very well organised and well supported. All in all I loved it. Would definitely do it again.

How did you get on? How does it compare to other marathons you've done?

Bournemouth marathon yesterday, 3:51 off about 3 long runs. If I set my mind to it and did some training I could actually get half decent pb. Bournemouth was a pleasant run, spoiled by 2 big hills. I quite enjoyed it, my weight training/plyometrics/eating meat again/no carbs program is starting to really show benefits now.

Did anyone get fecking drenched running today? I certainly did! 7.85 miles and it rained the whole time!

Can't moan too much, that's the 1st run in a long time that I can recall where it rained for the entire run.

I bottled it! I wanted to go for a run but saw the weather and decided not to bother I usually don't mind the rain but just didn't fancy it today for some reason, good on you getting out there regardless.

Oh cool, that sounds like a pretty good training programme-is the session typical for you?

I got out for a run before work for the first time ever-it was not too bad just a gentle 3 mile jog around the town. I'm out with the local running club for the first time tomorrow-a torchlit run around a resevoir smile

I've also just realised my head torch is very very bright-hopefully I won't get known as the new tt who blinded everyone!!

Yes that's a typical type of session (although I forgot to add after the 2x1k there's a 3min rest then 4x200m off 30secs rest. Which head torch have you got?

First run after a two week break due to my plantar fasciitis. Feels so good to be back, although I'd prefer it to be dry...

Trail des Glières last Sunday, It's a 22km race with 1500m+ and 1500m-

I was aiming for 1h40m up and 1h10m down..Overall it took 3 hours as the descent was very technical (boulder field and narrow paths parellel to a cliff top).

I had cramp in my aductors with 3km to go, only running could relieve it..so I did the last 2 km in 8 minutes! In hindsight, I should have started a bit more quickly and gone from there.

Beaujolais half-marathon is next.

Need to get fast. Annoying the F out of me.

Want to try and get Sub 17 for 5k (Currently 18:30).

I really seem to struggle with leg turnover, hopefully PT can help me out on these.

I should really do more in the gym in terms of my lower stomach, abs and core strength. The track sessions always show these as my weakness.

Wow - that's ambitious. I'm similar for 5k (18:33) but my target is currently sub 18. Have just signed up to a gym to address some of the areas you mention.

Certainly do-able. You're about where I am now, and I'm looking to get back to that shape (I have done a sub 1,a while ago now, mind! I didn't really do any core work as such, just plenty of running and well organised and structured sessions by a very good coach.

Not running related but I just wanted to say that FINALLY, 13+ months after the initial onset of this horrible stomach problem I've finally got an appointment with a gastro-enterologist tomorrow morning. Got a call today saying that they'd had a cancellation, so I can go in! I was going to do my running session in the morning but that'll wait until I get back, before lunch.

I just hope something can be done about this and I can stop being sick basically every fking day and I can get back to normality and get back to a decent level of fitness again.

Fingers crossed
