Well, not quite as promising as I could have hoped for.
Was a nice chap, but admitted it was a rather strange case and wasn't exactly sure what to do and why it's started. He literally laughed at some of the meds I've been given saying they shouldn't have been given. 3 of the ones I was given should be the best way forward, but said I was told to take them at incorrect times based on my symptoms so trying those again at different times may help - though he said if they made NO difference at all, it's doubtful but worth trying.
He wants to do a brain scan to try and rule out anything more major such as brain tumours etc (unlikely based on no headaches, no "progression" or continual deterioration of symptoms etc etc but there is a very slim possibility of that (though I'm not concerned that it's an issue). It's been a long, long time since I did endocrine/exocrine systems at university so can't recall whether pituitary gland has a potential impact on hormones which may effect this aspect of digestive system, so I guess that's another thing they may wish to rule out though it wasn't something he mentioned. Sadly, I have to wait 3 months for that....yes, 3 fking months.
Surgery - no viable options sadly, he said there really isn't anything they can do for this problem.
So....potentially, it may be something I'll just have to live with. Genuinely, and I'm not afraid to admit it, I could have cried when he said that.
Still, because of the morning appointment (and not getting back until lunch) I haven't run yet so I plan to do my session this evening before dinner.
Must try my utmost to keep going.

Well, after being a bit of a miserable sod this afternoon after this morning I'm glad I went out for my 1st session back after "recovery week".
2M warm up
3.2M continuous and averaged 6:05/mile
4mins rest
2x1k off 75secs rest (1st 1km was at 5:42/mile, 2nd 1km was at 5:35/mile)
3mins rest
2x200m off 30secs rest (4:58/mile, 4:48/mile)
1.7M warm down
Overall I'm quite pleased with that and glad I went out. I know I keep going on (for which I do apologise!!) but doing this and writing it on here makes it feel like I'm talking a few of my problems out, but I really must try to not let this thing stop me running and training. The encouragement and words from you guys has helped me thus far
keep on running guys

Sad that you still don't know. I was hoping to hear good news when reading the thread today.2M warm up

On a positive note you are still running and far faster than I am.
When you finish a run do you have a stretching routine that you go to almost like auto pilot?
I've just started again after almost 9 years off and don't want my bad habits to come back ie. run get in car drive home.
Also on non running days do you do weights/gym work? My local gym does body pump which is low weight high rep weight lifting, would this be useful?
Just need to get back to my 10 stone racing snake days when a 10k could be done in 39mins , i'm now busting my ass to keep up with a 9.30-9.45 min mile group.

I wish I was consistent with stretching, I really should be. But I'm not. I know it's good for me, but I hate it. It's uncomfortable and boring. I will try to do some later as I've got a quiet morning at work, oddly. I get a massage once per fortnight and I'm planning on using acupuncture/dry needling on my legs 1-2x per week too which will help. I'll do some Saturday I think!
Easy 5.1 miles this morning, legs felt a bit tired after last night and the strong winds didn't help either!

That's similar to me I used to be 10 stone and was able to run 10k in just under 42 mins now I am nearly two stone heavier and much older and the best up to yet for me recently 10k wise is 53mins, I am starting to run at around 9min miles though so I will keep chipping away and hopefully get quicker. Certainly do-able. You're about where I am now, and I'm looking to get back to that shape (I have done a sub 1,a while ago now, mind! I didn't really do any core work as such, just plenty of running and well organised and structured sessions by a very good coach.
Cheers.I usually try and do a track session once a week which kills me. I hate it, but its the only thing which is helping me get my base running times down.
Usually I am LD runner, however the shorter distances seem to suit my lifestyle and I dont have the LSR to dreaded either!

Stretching is key. And a foam roller is worth its weight in gold, IMO. Get a decent one (TriggerPoint) as these are much more effective than the cheap versions, which tend to go out of shape quickly. Gym wise, lots of leg strengthening and hip stability work. Squats, lunges and so on. Don't be focused so much on the weight - more on the form.

Been on a diet to try and improve performance.
Missing a meal a day seems to help, although its leaving me pretty knackered.
Instead of missing a meal a day why not still have the same number of meals but slightly smaller, and make them more healthy (if they aren't already). Try reducing the cars from rice/pasta/potatoes etc and increase the amount of veg. Missing a meal a day seems to help, although its leaving me pretty knackered.

I bet your easy pace is still miles quicker than my fast pace though Ross! Something similar tomorrow, I'll probably rest Saturday and then an XC race Sunday.

Lee - don't think like that. You're where you are, I'm where you are. Seeing how slow I claim compared to my group hasn't made me feel like that,
Me today:
Breakfast (after run) 2 shredded wheat and a banana
Break - I'll have an apple
Lunch - made myself.... Salmon fillet in a stir fry with carrots, tenderstem broccoli, bean sprouts, spinach, few other bits I can't remember, with 50g of wholegrain rice
Dinner - chicken fillet diced with mushrooms, onions, red and green peppers, chopped cherry tomatoes, 50g of pasta with a small sprinkling of smoked paprika.
May have a couple of bits for dessert such as a banana or grapes or something.

My meals are usually small.
For instance.
Breakfast:
Cereal (Frosties/Dorest)
Orange juice
Break:
2 Bananas
Lunch:
Tesco veg salad. A little pasta perhaps but not much
Break:
2 Bananas
Evening
-nothing
So you have a breakfast full of sugar. A ready made salad which may have an unhealthy dressing and 4 bananas a day! That's nuts. You aren't eating much good quality food there. For instance.

Its usually a salad which I pick from the salad bar, no dressing and usually clean pasta.Me today:

Or the other thing is that I miss the meal at lunch and eat at home. Today it will be yesterdays Grilled Salmon and veg.
Spookily enough the lads at work said i should come out running with them, they average 7:36 over 5.1 miles..... lets just say i'm not quite there yet (but steadily improving)
In other news i got my "you're in" letter last week
Any recommendations on Garmin forerunners? there seems to be about 3 base models 110 10 and FR70, can't really see much difference?

It's so easy to compare yourself against other people - like most on here Ross even with his illness makes me look like a snail. On the other hand I have previously learnt on here that I am carrying about 30% more bodyweight than Ross as well as being older and only having been running for 7/8 months.
My wife has been running for longer but is nowhere near as fast as me and never will be. She gets very down sometimes - not about the fact that I am quicker than her - but about the fact that all my 2 boys (9 & 11) run parkrun quicker than she can and that our 5 year old (who has knocked 5 minutes off his best 5k time this year) has a pb only 30 seconds off hers.
I try and point out that whilst that may be the case she can run further than the little lad (I haven't told her that the 11 year old did a 58 minute 10k with me the other week) and that some people would love to be as quick as her. She is never going to be the quickest but I hope that she keeps enjoying running as it is good for her (mentally and physically). She texted me yesterday to say that she had got soaked through but loved every minute of it. She really enjoyed her running last winter but didn't enjoy the summer so hopefully we are getting back to the period when she enjoys things again.
