Feeling really aggressive.

Going to take it out nice and hard, fast and clean. Watch me mile like there is no tomorrow. Its gonna feel like I am running whilst holding my stomach in my hands, you gonna need a shovel to scrape me up afterwards.

Rest day tomorrow, so nothing to loose.

fk it.
fk it all.
It has to hurt.

Any recommendations on Garmin forerunners? there seems to be about 3 base models 110 10 and FR70, can't really see much difference?
What features are you looking for?

I've just bought a 310XT for £120. It has more features than I'll ever use, but at that price the cheaper ones were not much of a saving.
For me the must have features are: heart rate monitor, virtual partner and pace (current, 1km, average)

http://the5krunner.com/reviews-1/2012-definitive-g...

edit: forgot to mention that the GPS signal is very good on the 310xt. I regularly run next to woodlands. My 301 use to loose signal, the 310xt doesn't.

£120 is a bargain!!

The xt also has mapping features like my forerunner 205 does, something I'll definitely be making sure I get on my next watch, when the 205 dies.

Just the basic i think, current speed, last mile, time and distance. I guess the most important aspect is not losing GPS signal. I guess the newer products would be more intelligent? The garmin 10 seems to be winning for me at the moment (large version in black/orange). it looks like it has a virtual pacer too.

Holy st that's cheap. I really like the elevation aspect some times for which the 910xt would be my ideal replacement, but that's so cheap it's insane. That said, aside better battery life I'm not sure what else it offers over my 205 (for running)?

I've had a 205 for many years now, when they first came out pretty much. I had a replacement about 3-4 years ago due to the buttons wearing out. I'll see what's around in about 6 months I think. But good job on that price, that's really cheap!

Lee - don't think like that. You're where you are, I'm where you are. Seeing how slow I claim compared to my group hasn't made me feel like that,
No worries Ross I will keep battling as I still just enjoy being out there running and as you say we are all at different levels and that's fine, it is nice to see how other runners do on here though as it gives us an idea of what others are doing and its a great experience share.

With the evenings darkening, what sort of reflective / hi vis gear are people wearing to ensure they don't get run over to death?

My wife has the FR10 in green and has all the features you are looking for. Not sure about the virtual pacer but I can check later.

I dont know what the FR10 is are selling for but if its close to the price of that 310 then I would get that instead. Its based on their older designs but its a great watch even if you dont use all the features.

I have had one for a couple of years now and cant fault it.

Easy 5.1 miles this morning, legs felt a bit tired after last night and the strong winds didn't help either!
I bet your easy pace is still miles quicker than my fast pace though Ross! biggrin
hehe was 7:36/mile this morning.

Something similar tomorrow, I'll probably rest Saturday and then an XC race Sunday.
Love it! thumbup you just make me want to pack up and not bother!! hehe
Don't give up because somebody runs quicker than you, guess what someone runs quicker than them and so on.

I've just returned to a running club i helped set up, then i was leading groups doing 7-8 min miles looping back for the slower runners.

Skip forwards to now and i'm 3 stone heavier and struggling to keep up with the 9-10 min mile group, very hard to take when i'm running the same routes but much slower and now people loop for me.

Good news though is as i get lighter the speed will return (i hope)

Thanks for the positive words and I wish you all the best too going forward with the quest to get yourself a little quicker, cheers.

I typically stick to pavements if I can. Most of my running gear has some firm of reflective details on, including shoes.

You could always use the fluorescent snap bands around ankles?

It's crazy what a difference a pair of shoes makes. I've been using New Balance Minimus shoes the past 10 or so months, and absolutely love them. I've completely changed my running style and I get virtually no niggles or injuries these days, they make running an absolute joy.

In contrast, I pulled on my cushioned Brooks tonight to go out for a wet and slippy 8ish km (My NBs are very slippy in the wet unfortunately) and they felt heavy and clompy and all I wanted to do was get home ASAP. I'm genuinely much quicker in my minimal shoes, so much so that I've donated the Brooks to my brother and am on the search for a pair of off road NBs!

Looking to strengthen my legs for the trail running season so ran every set of stairs along the Newcastle quayside. 4.5 miles has never felt so tough!

Just over 4.5 miles steady this morning, legs were ok but I feel a bit of a wreck. I woke up at 3am, couldn't get back to sleep and was sick at 3:40, and not sure if I got back to sleep, but remember looking at my clock at 5:30am, and I got up at 6:15. At work now, started at 8:30 and I'm here until 7.

Think I'll enjoy a lie in tomorrow!

Rest day for me today. And I really need it. Aches and pains all over and really not looking forward to the track session tomorrow. Just need to try and find a baby sitter otherwise I will have to do the work on my J's which is not much fun.

..I just have to break 6 minute miles, once I am through this barrier - life will be a lot easier and better!

I normally run in Nike Frees which I love (so much so I have two pairs). The other week after a race I thought I would do a run in my cushioned Saucony - same heel/toe drop but just thought that the cushioning would help my legs a bit.

Wish I hadn't bothered as they seem to have caused niggles in my shins. Feeling much better then 2 weeks ago but not 100% - first HM on Sunday so just hoping my legs hold up for that.
