I dabbled with 'low' drop shoes, but after 30+ years running I kept getting injured. So now I only buy 15mm drop heel to toe, far better for me! I only buy shoes that state they have this drop..

Yes that's a typical type of session (although I forgot to add after the 2x1k there's a 3min rest then 4x200m off 30secs rest. Which head torch have you got?
Oh cool-a real mix of a sesssion! It's something I might try and do on my way back into trainingas it'll hopefully cover a bit more than a fexed rep session.

I use an LED Lenser torch-I think it's and SEO5 which got some positive comments on the run around the resevoir-and I didn't blind anyone!

Sorry to hear about your appointment not going too well frown

Long run for me today, gentle 18k. Last half km I had a little fun and went HM race pace. Dropping the distance per week seems to have been the best change to my regime.

Well, I'm not racing tomorrow. Woke up with a very mild sore throat yesterday and thought it was probably because of being sick early in the morning etc but this morning was much more sore so I'm coming down with a cold I think frown

I'll do a nice easy 4-5 miles instead. No speed work until I'm fine. Any days when I should have been doing speed work I shall just do a steady with 4-6 75-100m strides at 3-5k pace to keep the legs ticking over, without killing my immune system.

Feeling in the wars a bit now with this, and this stomach thing too. I will call my GP monday and see if they can speed something up, it has been worse still it seems. Was sick, as said, at 3:40am yesterday morning, 7:30pm yesterday before my dinner (very unusual for me!) and again at 5:20am this morning. You can't imagine how annoying it is (well maybe you can!)

Did my first race last Sunday.
First time running with other people.
First time cross country.
First proper hill.
Can only really say what fun with a great group of people. Can't wait for the next one smile

Great stuff, glad you enjoyed it.

Easy 4.6 miles this morning as I'm feeling a bit rough. Sick at 7:10am and then again within 30secs of finishing my run, which wasn't pleasant!!! Some throat seemed better today so hopefully I'm on the mend and I can get back to proper training soon. Don't want to risk it by pushing too hard.

First half marathon done - Great Eastern Run in Peterborough - really pleased with a time of 1:36:44.

See how the lags feel tomorrow after that.

Did Peterborough myself today as well.
Had planned on going for 7m miles to see me over the line at around 1h 32..

Got talked into running with a couple of fellow members from my club, one of whom offered to pace us under 90mins.

He did a superb job, kept us calm and steady, went over the line under 1h 29m 30s

Well chuffed. My first sub 90m half marathon.

I watched a fair bit of the Chicago marathon today. I was disappointed to see Bekele struggle and come 4th. Commentators saying he may have had a bit of a cold. He did seem to be blowing his nose quote a lot during the race hehe

Eliud Kipchoge looked so bloody strong though and he ran very well.

Sore throat seems fine today so hopefully I've fought the worst off. Easy 5.1miles this morning. Feel guilty almost for another easy week last week, bar 1 speed session.... But with a sore throat etc it's not worth the risk.

If I feel ok I shall return to normal and do speed on Thursday.

And yes, was sick again this morning frown

Hi,

This is the first time posting on this topic. In the last 3 weeks I have taken up running to help with my fitness and lose a bit of weight. I have been doing 3.5mile runs every other day. I have been using strava to track them:

My first run I did it in 32 mins. I was knackered but over the last 3 weeks I have got it down to 28:32.

What sort if mins/mile should be aiming for?

Cheers

Tom

Everyone's different, plus it all depends on the terrain and gradient etc. Just concentrate on what works best for you and you will find your own natural rhythm. You might want to incorporate some training sessions though, i.e., hill training or/and HIIT.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than myself will be along shortly.

But I stress that everyone is different and has their own speed.

Spend some time just running and steadily increasing the distance that you run. For a while at least simply running more will increase the speed at which you can run the shorter distances.

Get yourself to a parkrun if there is one nearny - they are useful for giving you some sort of measure of speed without having to actually enter a race.

Cheers - when I entered 5 or so months ago I wanted to go under 2 hours then got myself to a position where I felt that I could comfortably run 1:45 but this was almost immediately followed a dose of shin splints 3 weeks ago.

Not run a great deal since then. Spent the first 6 or so km with the 1:40 pacers then we hit a rise up and over one of the city centre dual carriageways and I pulled away from them up there and then managed to keep it going all the way through.

Abolsutely delighted with it - legs ache a bit today and wouldn't want to run far but can definitely feel that I will have a light run over the next couple of days.

Plan is then to spend the winter steadily increasing the distance I can run and not worrying too much about speed.

I finally did the Chamonix Vertical km last week 3.8km distance, 1km up in 45 mins from the lift (I added the extra distance at the top as I didn't start in the town):

I happened to be on a long run and passed next to the bottom lift and decided that it was a good opportunity to do it before the snow came. As you can see, it's a bit knarly at the top.

A bit boring compared the amazing post above, but ran the Ware 10 in 1:16 around 7:30 minute miles. 6 mins better than last year!

6 minutes is a big improvement on an already good time..
As for Chamonix, I'm just fortunate to live in the region.

I want to do 5:30 miles.

On a track I can manage a 5:45 and 5:30 consecutively but want to do 10 miles at that pace.
