You should have definitely came over to say "hi" - have had much stranger things said to me during races before!

Yeah, I reckon I can make it under 90 minutes for next year's as well. 'Twas a bit warm and blustery on Sunday. Were you a victim of the dodgy timing if you started on the left? Quite a few people I know are reporting finishing times almost 2 minutes faster than their personal recorded time. They're also claiming them as PBs when clearly they shouldn't!
No - i started on the right - but quite a long way back, so my times match - and 2 minutes wouldn't have even gotten me to last years time anyway, let alone a PB. There were no pacers were there? well i didn't see any anyway - theres are usually.

Next year sub 90 PH run!!

For me, I generally get warm after 10 mins.

11 Degrees, short sleeves, shorts
9 Degrees, short sleeves, shorts
5 Degrees, long sleeve, shorts, gloves.
3 Degrees, long sleeve + short sleeve top, shorts, gloves, hat.

Hope this helps.
Very much the same for me, albeit with the addition of:

0 Degrees and below - Running leggings under shorts (these might also be worn if temp is between 0-5c when on a long slow run of 90+ mins length)

I check the external temp on a weather station thing I have, so always know i'm dressed for the conditions prior to getting outside

Nope, no official pacers from what I could see and don't know of anybody that used one. Mind you, after last year's shoddy sub-90 pacer, I'm not surprised if they knocked it on the head.

Defo need to get a sub-90 PH bus going next year. Did you see there are plans for a Great Birmingham 10k in May? £25 is a bit steep for an unproven course or event.

Agree I never used running leggings before I got some for Christmas last year but I do recommend them when its really cold.

I'd also recommend people get some arm warmers. They're bloody brilliant! If you get warm you can take them off and you're back to short sleeves..... Plus, you don't need several long sleeve tops.

I used to hate the idea of leggings as I don't like th appearance at a but I bit the bullet and got some.... When it's cold they're a god send.

Anything above 10 degrees is shorts and tshirt. I'll bring the gloves out around 8 degrees or cooler. Leggings come out around 3 degrees and arm warmers come out about the same temp, maybe a touch warmer.

If it gets below -2 or so I'll wear a thin base layer under a tshirt.

Very, very rarely wear a jacket as I overheat even when it's cold.

I managed to get out for a run and didn't feel too bad. 6.6 miles, 1st 2 really easy at 7:45/mile, next 4 miles at a brisk but not pushing too hard at 6:30/mile then easy the last 0.6miles.

I'm hoping to feel better soon and start proper training next week, or maybe Sunday with a long run.

It really depends on how you feel. I prefer to wear running trousers (not sure if leggings is the right word) as it can be absolutely freezing when I leave the house at 5.30am in the middle of winter. I also have those Nike base layer tops which are really snug, but are also comfortable to sweat in. Gloves are important too.

But I've done parkrun in freezing temperatures where many people run in shorts and a vest!

Running club tonight for the 2nd time, (4th run this year but had some decent times a decade and -3 stone ago)

1st week was a nightmare i convinced myself i could get pulled along by the 9 to 9.30 min mile group and was struggling after a couple of miles, luckily we bumped into the 9-30 to 10.30 min mile group and i joined them but the damage was done i was shagged out and struggled at the back.

Tonight went out with the correct group and had a great run , nice and comfy, lopping back for slower runners and i could of gone faster.

Stil slow though 10 min miles, but 6 comfy miles.

Now tomorrow do i go spinning, body pump or just go to the gym and do weights?

Thanks for all the advice on clothing!

Another short run last night, 2 miles. Strange one though, the running app I use said I only burned 38 calories! Previous runs were 200.

My aim for the next 3 runs is 2.5 miles each.

Depends a lot on your weight, running efficiency, terrain, hills etc etc but it'd certainly be more than 38!

I know for me it's just under 100cals/mile, but I'm a skinny fker.

I'm 6ft and 11.5 stone. I am using the same route so it seems strange that the first 3 were 190/200 and the next 2 were 38. First run was 12 mins per mile and the last run was 9 mins per mile.

Don't worry about getting quicker. Concentrate on running at a speed that means you can run the distance you want to. Build up the distance until you feel that you want to attempt a parkrun - 5km timed. In the early days just running more will give you endurance. Once you have some endurance then think about whether you want to train to get faster.

I'm not good at putting speed sessions into my running but just from getting out and doing the mileage have managed to get myself into a position to run a sub 1:37 half marathon. Think I need to work out how to train to get quicker over distances less than that whilst also doing some preliminary work to consider giving a marathin a go next year.

Do you run with a club?

I find if i'm in a group slightly quicker than me i go faster trying to keep up, if there miles quicker it's just a nightmare so pick your group carefully.

Solo i just plod so my speed session is my club run and i do hill work solo .

I run with a club - the Kent Grand Prix champions no less (although my contribution was minimal).

I joined the club to run slower - I was great at going out and running faster than I wanted to and then running out of enrgy completely. Joined the club to make sure I ran further and slower.

Having joined and improved I now find myself able to run at varying speeds and choose which club group to run with according to my mood/legs on the day.

I'm getting back into running properly and it feels so good!
35 miles last week and hopefully more this week-I'm aiming for 40 by the end of this month and then I'll hold it there till December and then add sessions in.

Although I'm avoiding sessions at the moment I've been running pretty hard on some club runs with the local club I've just joined. Because there's a wide range of abilities the faster guys tend to go off at the front and stop at certain points to allow the group to get back together which means it can get like a faartlek session with hard running and then a bit of a rest.
Today I put my foot down for the first time on one of the flatter stretches and felt really good!

I'm hoping for a productive winter!
Good to here it mate.

I've been feeling rough and haven't done a decent session for 2 weeks now. Last weeks session was the failed disaster but I don't think it was an off-day. I've been feeling really tired lately. I'm wondering whether being sick every day is beginning to cause a vitamin B12 deficiency, which has tiredness as a most common symptom; it's quite common in those who vomit a lot. Got GP appointment later and have a few questions to ask, so I'll ask that as well. MRI scan Saturday.

I was meant to do a speed session this morning but just didn't feel up to it....I went to bed at 10pm last night, I woke up at 6am to be sick, went back to bed and didn't get up until 9:30, and I'm still tired. It's a joke. Oddly, I actually brought food up as well today; had breakfast at around 10am and was sick at about 10:45. Bit of a worry as it's pretty rare for me to bring food up with this condition....

Just seem to keep running into hurdles frown
Thanks! Sorry to hear about your troubles continuing frown Hopefully you'll begin getting some answers soon!

I had a bit of a bad run today-felt hungry going into an 8 mile run and then proceeded to feel hungry through it and a bit light headed afterwards! The plus side is I'm well on my way to a 40 mile week after that run smile

I tend to wear running tights a fair amount-I find a thin set can do from about 10 degrees to around -10!

Also-I'd have to check again to be sure but from memory I'm about 1000 calories per hour of running-for me the time seems to dictate number of calories rather than distance/speed. Over a 1hr 21 half I burned about a little less than on a 12 mile steady run (1hr 30).

My planned November half is sold out already, without getting my entry in.

Found an alternative at Shakespears Raceway which looks flat, anyone done it? I may continue the theme next year and do Brands Hatch and Silverstone......

MRI scan done this morning....1-2 weeks for results. 1 more hurdle jumped over.

Just did an easy 4.6 miles, and I'm planning on getting back to proper training from tomorrow with a 12 mile run with a mate.

I am feeling better, not as tired as I was which is nice. Though this morning was crap....woke at 4am, couldn't sleep with my stomach feeling like a washing machine, sick at 5am, and couldn't get back to sleep.

I will say though, legs feel remarkably fresh. normally was doing steady runs around 7:35-45/mile but last week that's been bang on 7:30/mile and feel like I'm not doing any work at all. Who knows, maybe a couple of easy weeks will benefit me.

On one positive side.....the next 2 weeks for the group schedule are easy as they're racing next weekend and the weekend after too. This means that I can train for the 2 weeks worth of sessions that I've missed.

I just hope to God I get this stomach thing sorted. I'm genuinely a little depressed now.

All work and no running make Ross a dull boy.

Ponty Roadents is who I ran for whilst I was at uni!!! They're a great bunch and really friendly, big range of abilities and I still keep in touch with a couple of members via FB (I'm on their FB group).

Tell your wife Ross says hi to "Pounder", Andy (and his daughter Steph) and Rhodri. Do miss those chaps.
