At Gosport last year there were plenty of signs saying no headphones and people still ran with them.
Along the route, and at the finish, the marshals were keeping an eye out for people running with them in and anyone they saw were disqualified afterwards.
I don't run with headphones but if there are rules saying they are not allowed in a race then don't run with them. Unless you are happy that you may be disqualified that is.
I guess I'm not going to be losing a gold medal if I do get disqualified Along the route, and at the finish, the marshals were keeping an eye out for people running with them in and anyone they saw were disqualified afterwards.

10/05 Stroud Trail Half Marathon - Target Race (beat last year's time)
20/05 Stroud Beer Race - hard training session
06/07 Frampton 10km (pb attempt and guide to remaining training for Bristol Bath mara
29/10 Bristol-Bath Marathon - Target Race
Will probably chuck something into the mix in August and Sept plus hoping to do some park runs, but unsure of holidays and don't want to waste money in case I pick up an injury, so will do local/unpopular stuff!
All this is leading up to an attempt on the Comrades in 2020. Looking to get some consistent marathoning done in the next few years, then target a sub 10 Comrades.

This keeps on popping up in 'my stuff' and it's so annoying because I'm not running at the moment!!
I've had multiple chest infections and continuing problems that the dr seems to think is linked to my asthma so I haven't been running in several months. I think I'm feeling ready to begin running again but I've still got a slight wheeze on my chest.
I'm going to be going back to basics and running the couch to 5k sessions. For a gu who's done up to 60 miles per week it'll be hard to take it easy but I need to be careful and not get ill again! I'm hoping that the running will begin to clear my chest out more and get rid of the wheeze as I get going as I always found I had a certain amount of stuff to clear out when I've been injured beforehand.
I've heard great things about the couch to 5k-and it really worked for my girlfriend who hadn't done any running before so I'm hoping it'll work well for me-I'll just have to see how it goes!

Thanks for the tips so far guys, I've also had a look at some 12 week training plans which I'm going to fudge into a six week version.
My main concern is my feet, they aren't hardened to this and blisters will real really wee on my cornflakes, best way to avoid? treat? sock choice?
Thinking that my chamois cream from cycling between the toes would work well?

Get those shoes worn in, and use the heart rate monitor to keep hr down. Walk the hills, start slow. And go slower, particularly for the first 10 miles. Keep off gels during training, maybe take them during the run itself if you know which one doesn't give you a funny stomach. Or just walk/run the whole thing. If you are going to be out there a while, ie 6+ hours, think hard about taking nutrition. My main concern is my feet, they aren't hardened to this and blisters will real really wee on my cornflakes, best way to avoid? treat? sock choice?

I am running the Cambridge boundary marathon and whilst I have done plenty of marathons, I have not really done the prep miles. Just going to take it slow and grind away.

I bought some Injinji socks recently to try out and have been good so far. My main concern is my feet, they aren't hardened to this and blisters will real really wee on my cornflakes, best way to avoid? treat? sock choice?

Thanks-me too! Glad to see you back on the thread, best of luck for bath tomorrow!
I had 6 months off PH due to getting too frustrated with numpties. Now I just stick to a few threads/sub-forums. Weather's looking rubbish tomorrow, which should suit me as a strength rather than speed runner nowadays.

So why isn't the Bath half on Strava?
It has all the segments, but not the whole half, so to speak.
Maybe due to two laps?It has all the segments, but not the whole half, so to speak.
Anyway, how'd the Bath Halfers get on? Two folks at work ran it, one under 1.40 and one under 1.30, both awesome times and pbs.
In a rare fit of sense, I have taken a few days off to let the hammie recover. I've done stretching or core sessions instead of run sessons and feel better about it than had I sat on the sofa (I did do that a lot too...).
Bath was a disaster for me. Was feeling comfortable to 10k (33:30ish) then in the next two miles my chest got progressively tighter until I was really struggling to breathe, so I pulled out. Not sure what caused it, possibly a combination of lots of illness going round work, plus work stress (deadlines looming) and home stress with the OH just starting a new job. Anyway, not the result I wanted, but hopefully no long term problems. A few days off now to recover and let whatever is going on subside.
So, I went to bed on Friday evening feeling just fine but woke up the following day coughing. Sunday is more of the same but with headaches, joint pain, a blocked nose, pain in the chest and a slight temperature. Today I have lost the cough and joint aches but gained cold sweats and I am hoping that the half this coming Sunday won't be written off.
There is a flu epidemic at the moment in Germany but I am really pissed off as I can count on one hand how many times I have caught a cold in the past 20 years or so. Sod's Law it had to happen now.
ewenm, bad luck with the half but feeling under the weather and managing a 33 minutes for 10k is impressive. Were you not tempted to push on for a little bit more?

Not really. I hate DNF-ing but I've got nothing to prove at that pace. At 8 miles the route goes within 50m of my house, so it seemed pointless to run 5 more miles while feeling dreadful just to collect another race t-shirt and medal then jog/walk 2 miles home again.ewenm said:

Fair enough then. I suppose there is no point carrying on if you are not going to enjoy it.Cambridge boundary marathon yesterday, training for this in terms of long was was virtually nil and I was relying on my marathon experience to get me through. Ran a 4.45, fairly pleased as it was fairly off road and very windy.
Big field, but most people seemed to be running the half marathon option, tried hard to keep my speed and heartrate down for the first 5 miles, but everyone else decided to sprint it! Was run from the new university sports centre, great location. It was a fairly hard marathon, only for the reasonably experienced. Signage was OK, but I still got lost.
Back to Cambridge for the half on Sunday, followed by Paris and London.

EwenM - Sorry to hear about the half, I'm sure it's just one of those things
Gentle 33 minute run this morning for me after only 1 run in 5 weeks. Work has been a bit too busy and we're moving to the US in 5 weeks, so it's all a little hectic
This sort of thing happens when trying to balance work, family and training/racing. I had a cracking weekend of racing a few weeks ago and now have 3 months before the next big target race so plenty of time to recover and re-balance.Gentle 33 minute run this morning for me after only 1 run in 5 weeks. Hope your move to the US goes well. Where are you going?
