ewenm, bad luck with the half but feeling under the weather and managing a 33 minutes for 10k is impressive. Were you not tempted to push on for a little bit more?
Not really. I hate DNF-ing but I've got nothing to prove at that pace. At 8 miles the route goes within 50m of my house, so it seemed pointless to run 5 more miles while feeling dreadful just to collect another race t-shirt and medal then jog/walk 2 miles home again.
My first half nearly didn't happen, fully prepared, bag packed, good breakfast, drove to Bath. Forgot my flippin number and chip!
Fortunately Mrs met me half way with it.
Just made it back in time to find 4 safety pins, and get to the startish.
Then took 10 minutes after the start reach the start.
Used to getting my splits through my headphones, but was under the impression you weren't supposed to wear them. So didn't. Only to find nearly everyone else with them on. So, Accidently PB'd 10 miles, then.somewhat bonked.
Good experience though.
Just signed up for next year.
Note to self. Chip n number numpty!!

Lost count of the amount of "experts" telling I should have worn plasters on them, after the event rolleyes

I have the same problem. I have tried plasters but they are gone in the first few kms, body glide does bugger all and vaseline even less! I'm going to be trying Nip Guards for the first time on Sunday so will report back, hopefully without bloodied nips.

I find spot plasters work well.

Tegaderm patches work best. Or wear a tight fitting top.

I've said above, but oddly, I find sellotape works quite well, and doesn't hurt like a mofo to remove.

I use bodyglide for runs over 10 miles and have never had a problem. I know of others who use plasters and others who choose to suffer (yes really and it's disgusting)

A short 40 minutes for me this morning.... the weather was glorious, my running was not, but I had a smile on my face

That plan is similar to mine.

Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Faster shorter stuff which differs by week
Wednesday - Longer slower run
Thursday - Shorter but quicker run.
Friday - Rest
Saturday - Parkrun
Sunday - Very long run.
How are you getting on KTF? I must admit I am starting to feel a bit run down with it all, I have to do most of my weekday runs when I get home and kids are settled, so that means leaving at 8pm and then doing a speed session or 10 miler. This is after leaving home at 5.30am and getting back at 18.30. So I am exhausted before I start! The the weekend runs I try to get out of the house at 7.30am at the latest.
I feel a bit cheesed off with it all, it doesn't seem to be getting any easier, I am constantly tired and achey got a cold as well. Seem to be losing a lot of weight but havn't got much of appetite either.
Guess I shoud just man up a bit and remember why I am doing it but I'll be glad when it is over!

I do my mid week runs during a 'generous' lunch hour with a run in the evening only if I can really not get out during the day.

This is week 9 of 16 now and I agree that it does get to you sometimes - doing the training is harder work than doing the marathon itself - but then it only takes a good run or a check of the times to see that it is working and that makes it a bit better.

I have been lucky as well as it has been a mild few months so I have only been soaked a few times as that would certainly take the shine off it. Sunday runs are normally with a few other people from the running club who are also doing marathons around a similar date to London which helps as well.

I also log everything I do to see if I am meeting the targets and to see how I am getting on in general which gives it some structure. Assuming this link works then the plan is here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/dc53c3bma79gzwr/Marathon...

I am aiming for a 3:30 but following the 3:15 plan and aiming to get as close as possible to the quick times in that plan. The 3:30 is really only there as a reference to see the differences between the two.

The distance is easing off during the week now with only 4 very long runs on the Sunday then it starts tapering off so the end is getting closer smile

Hmmm. Just realised that it'd be my first V35 race, if I were dumb enough to enter. (Note 42m 10k pb, ergo stone dead last but points for turning up).

Managed a split run yesterday up and back to an antenatal class Dad's pub meet-up. I'm not sure the tired eyes around the table appreciated my mid-run endorphin fuelled self, lime and soda supping. Must have been a late night though, as I fell asleep on the sofa before even stretching off! Still, at least my legs felt better than they have for a week. Couple of days of deep stretching and I hope to get a decent run in on Saturday.

My Mrs fitted several half marathons in to her marathon training plan for London a couple of years ago. She reckoned it was far more fun running a half than going and doing the distance on her own, and as the halves were training runs not the goal of her training she was a lot more relaxed about them and enjoyed them more than if they were her target.

I have no intentions of that kind of distance though, and being fairly new to running I'm still building up. Did a 3 race 10k series last year so plan to do a few more 10k's this year, and I've somehow ended up in a team for Endure 24 this year, luckily in the slow team so probably won't end up doing more than 4 laps of the 5 mile course unless anyone drops out of the team.

My plan also says to do some half marathons but I would want to 'run' them and beat my last time (which I will only do if I specifically trained for that). So for me its a waste of a space/money as I can go and run that distance on my own if needed.

Other people see it differently though and will run to the race, do the race then run back to mix up the training a bit.

I did Endure 24 last year. It pissed it down for most of the time and the course ended up like this for most of the way round:

Am signed up again this year but if its like that a second time then I wont be doing it a third smile

Yeah, several mates referred to that stretch as the river of custard last year biggrin

Think we've got 2 teams doing it this year (Cove joggers, if you see a big purple gazebo give us a wave), plus a mate soloing it. Another mate managed 90 miles solo the previous year (when it was baking hot all weekend so no mud), nutters.

Just entered the Farnham Pilgrim in September and have already started training for it, anyone else entered. It is supposed to be tough but rewarding.

A river of slurry would have been a better description wink

Seeing that has brought back memories of the portable showers they had on site as well. They blocked the second that you looked at them due to all the mud that people were washing off so anyone who used them had to forget that they were standing in what looked like a pool of liquid st.

Most things dont bother me but even I have my limits. There is a small stream on the site near the house that people used instead but take lots of baby wipes with you or long socks/running tights that can be stripped off easily along with most of the filth.

I think my club (Hedge End) has 5 or 6 mixed and same sex teams entered, a few doing it as pairs and a few mental enough to do it solo.

It's glorious out there today (at least in the South East) A bit chilly, little wind and lovely and quiet.
Well worth getting up early this morning to be out and about

First run after shaking off the worst of my cold. I still have a cough so decided to do a quick 5.3k. took 28 minutes which was the quickest I have run that distance for a long while but I could not concentrate on my breathing as I was coughing up mucus every couple of minutes or so.

I am hoping the half this Sunday is not going to be too hard but I think a 1hr 50 won't be possible frown
