Yes, if you can get ahead of the pack and have clear air then you will be in with a chance. Need to do a 3:15 or quicker I would say tho.
The underpasses messed up my GPS as well as it lost signal. At the finish it said I had run 26.6 miles which made the mile times very hard to calculate.
At the meet and greet at the end,a bunch of Icelanders also meeting at 'I' celebrated their finish by downing cans of Stella and shots of brandy. That's a bit hardcore

Well done all PHers who did London today. As ever, I watched (TV this time) and now want to have another attempt.
All my clubmates ran PBs and one of them ran most of the way with Paula. He even got some post-race TV time with her Another mate was pacer for Button - good to see their 2:52 result after Tom was concerned about injury in the build up.

Was that the chap in the blue and yellow vest with the glasses? If so, fair play for getting on the air!All my clubmates ran PBs and one of them ran most of the way with Paula. Well done all those of you running. Pretty much ideal conditions for it I should think. My Mrs shaved over 15 minutes of her previous time so is very happy, and one of our regular parkrunners beat Paula Radcliffe so he's happy.
Very hard trying to spot people as a supporter though, I knew about 15 people running and only spotted 3 of them, plus a couple spotted me when I hadn't seen them.

Yes, probably ideal conditions for running, but f ing cold for volunteering, we were doing water at Blue start, then marshalling at Good For Age start, was just about warming up once we'd walked down to Greenwich station and got the train to the Tower, then gradually got cold again watching at mile 23 for 4 hours and warmed up in a pub in Greenwich.
Now watching TV on catch up to find out what happened in the race.
Impressed by Paula's time, considering she said she stopped training due to injury, was just going to enjoy it etc

my first london marathon (and marathon) in 4 hours 10.
Very difficult to get into any sort of rythmn in the first 13 miles, so many people.
Utterly done in at 22 miles plus and had nothing left in the tank so last few miles were a real struggle.
The crowds were amazing, strangers giving you real encouragement.

Thanks for the updates Found the last few miles very hard work so the time sadly dropped off. Still a PB though.
Was very busy all the way round so hard to settle into a relaxed pace.
Found it tougher than the training runs and people randomly stopping when they saw someone they knew in the crowd didn't help either.
I would do it again but I think it's a tough course to get a PB on due to the sheer numbers.

Well done to all of those who finished. Never easy to finish a marathon but some quality times out there.
My old clubmate Paul eventually got a good for age time which is great as he's had some terrible luck in marathons.
Glad I was not on the drinks station at 23.8 miles as it sounds like it was freezing for them. My old club do this every year and it's great fun (I once won the pre-race sprint of 200m that all of the marshalls do after the kids runs)
It's the London marathon theme on the tele which gets me... It's on our PVR machine and here in the US, you don't get coverage, so did not hear the music this year.

4.01, my 20th marathon. Was probably the hardest marathon yet. Went out a bit fast, thought I would go for it after my issues at Paris (4.00.07). Realised at 8 miles I had gone too fast, half was 1.48, blew out at 15 and had to walk run for 5 miles. Luckily there were kind souls with bananas and oranges which are my fuel of choice.
I found the crowds very distracting until about 5 miles out I started to enjoy it a bit more. Tried to run in the middle of the road, people blowing whistles and horns in your ear does not help your concentration at all.
Then at 22 I got awful cramps in my upper thigh, had to stop 4 times once 300 metres from the finish and watched my chance of going sub 4 disappear whilst stood in agony.
I have a sub 3.30 marathon in me, just need to do some actual marathon training! Thats me leaning on the cone a mile from the finish.

I didn't get a place in london so did the stratford upon Avon marathon yesterday, my fourth marathon to date.
Got a pb of 3.56 which I'm pleased with given the sub 4 has eluded me in the past (4.47 my my first one in 2013, 4.07 in 2014 and 4.13 later that year).
Doesn't matter how many you do, those last 3/4 miles are fecking awful.

Well done all marathoners this weekend.
The London Ballot opens (and closes, I imagine) on May 4th for those who fancy it.
Been trying on and off for ten years. Someday!
Managed a half myself this weekend, rather by accident. Took a new path in the local park and added a bit of distance to my planned 17km LSD, so ran up and down the road a bit to make it up to 21.1km! An easy 2.06 with 375m of climbing and mainly on trails, all done by 8am on Saturday morning. Smuggy smug smug.

I think the ballot will be open for 5 days no limit on numbers to apply. The London Ballot opens (and closes, I imagine) on May 4th for those who fancy it.

my running club had 17 runners in it, and about 40 people going to spectate.
we had a few people doing a marathon for the first time.
we had a women finish in top 10 in age range 65-69
and a bloke dressed as a big Mr cheese string.

Wont this make it even harder to get a place as the ratio of places to numbers will be way in advance of previous years?Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
