wavey It's been a while since I have been here.

Been for my longest run (9.8k) for around nearly 3 months.

I really lost my motivation after the marathon on 1st June but I have another one coming up in 8 weeks and my motivation has suddenly been awakened! hehe 10K race on the 13th September too and I was aiming for a sub 45 minute run but with my laziness I will be happy with a sub 50 ATM.

I've not used Strava but can I upload from any Garmin to Strava as I'd like to join the party?

Yes. Instructions on the Strava site. My Garmin data uploads to Garmin Connect as private activities then bounces over to Strava automatically.

So after moving to the US and finding a couple of running clubs, I found a person who was around my pace. 3 weeks ago, another guy joined who has run a 4:26 mile and a 1:18 half marathon, so there are now 3 of us who regularly go and a 4th who is a 1:15 half runner who I've not yet seen. Clearly this is good news as it enables me to have a few people to train with, so I am happy.

Last night, we went to an old track and did a speed session as a group (5k range from 17:00 to 45:00). The person who set the session was a former Russian Athlete who was with their training program for a number of years. He now lives in the US and set out some really tough speedwork:
1-2 mile warm up
2 x 100m strides at 75%
Some stretches and warm up exercises
2 x 100m strides
10 x 200m with 200m jog recoveries
1 mile cool down

Given it was most peoples first ever speed session, it went pretty well. I suggested we might want a few 400m or 800m reps in future. I reckon we did about 7 miles in total which is more than a usual Wednesday evening run

Strava's quite amusing, it's kind of like spying on your mates biggrin

Had a skim through mine last night and realised that this week is only the second time I've done more than one run in a week since Endure 24 in June! Need to get back in to it.

I'm in - need to keep the miles up and it's always fun to see what others are doing
Just looking at this 'leaderboard' and it looks as though I am better than I thought. Current progress would put me in Top 5-10 but it looks as though my pace is too high which is effecting my distance, this is fascinating and quite addictive stuff isn't it!

always dangerous to compare distances/pace to people when you have no idea of what they are training for or what pace they run at.

Having said that it doesn't stop any of us looking to climb various leaderboards.

Worth remembering that lots of people do their long runs on Sunday so you can be right up their in distrance terms on Saturday night and fall down the table come Sunday lunchtime.

Definitely worth slowing down to run further - it was the reason that I joined a club. Running further in turn led me to run shorter distances faster. Now however running further is leading me to running longer races.

Just back in from a 5k run in 20:03 according to my app, but I'm sure I stopped it dead on 20:00! I need to find a running club here in Sweden as my girlfriend is a bit slower than me and I struggle to get motivated to go on my own.

Oh absolutely agree Mark, I was just rather pleased that I was better than I expected myself to be before starting this running malarkey.

More of a 'pleased with myself' thing rather than a 'pleased with how well I'm doing compared with others'

I started running as a personal goal to feel better and didn't (don't) anticipate getting competitive about it but as you say it is interesting to see what others are doing too.

I currently walk 3km every morning 7 days a week, started this approx 3 weeks ago, and am planning on running around 15km a week split into 3 runs. Does that sound about right?

Well I've just joined (Chris) and am currently the slowest member biggrin though in my defence I had to stop and wait for some people so should be around the same pace as Colins last run. I think we need to recruit some more slower people biggrin

Check the individual split times on the watch as some apps deal with the rounding differently to others.

Check what settings your watch is on - I have mine set to auto pause so the time it reports (and therefore the time that Strava shows) is my moving time so it's the pace I actually ran at. I don't tend to worry too much what pace it is showing - more bothered (sometimes) with the overall time of a race.

Having said that first ultra is coming up in 3 months so then I will only be bothered about distance.

I usually leave autopause turned off to discourage me from taking a breather biggrin Went out with Sweatshop last night and have to cross a few roads so do wonder about using auto pause for the occasions I have to stop and wait, but it feels like cheating somehow biggrin It would probably make sense to though as the man reason I use my watch is to try and control my pace. I tend to set off too fast and die half way round, Garmins Virtual Partner function is a great way to get me going at a more constant pace...when I manage to follow it.

Garmin connect does differentiate between total time and moving time even without using autopause, shame Strava doesnt'

Cheers but this was just on my phone. I used to use Adidas MiCoach but it let me down on a half marathon distance half way through, so I changed to RunKeeper but that was ste, so now I'm using Runtastic but it doesn't give splits! I'll go back to MiCoach for these shorter runs and keep deciding if it's worth buying one of these watches or not, as I start running for a week or two but usually get bored on my own and go back to cycling/the rowing machine at the gym.

I've got my summer target race this weekend coming, so yesterday I did my last properly hard session - a hill loop with a 8 minute climb, a steep descent and a few minutes on the flat, making it a 20 min loop. I did two of those at a good effort (set a Strava CR on one section of the climb hehe) with 10 mins warm up and down taking the run to an hour.

A few steady days now before travelling up to Betws-Y-Coed on Friday, collecting my number, recce-ing the course and then racing Saturday morning.

First marathon approaching fast, and I've managed to bugger my ITB. Managed a run/walk 16 miles in 2:30 on Sunday, but it didn't feel good.

Not sure whether to just stop running until the marathon (27th Sept) or to carry on and do plenty of stretching.

You know your own body better than anyone else, how long you take to heal, running profile, overall fitness etc.

Have you had this injury before? what's the longest run you've done in training?

15.7 was my longest run before I pulled out of London with shin splints, it took months for me to get back to 'normal'.

That sounds pretty fast for a long slow run with an injury!
