A fell run in the Yorkshire Dales for me this morning. I've been spoiled by good conditions of late, so it was good to do a 'proper' one today in thick cloud, wind at the summits, with thigh deep bogs and sketchy way-finding.
It was only 12k, but felt like much, much further. The good news was that my quads only felt to be on fire for a couple of minutes on the first rocky descent -things are improving!
I did another Dales run before breakfast this morning. 11K of 2 climbs and 2 descents. I stuck to stony tracks this time. My downhill running is definitely improving. It was only 12k, but felt like much, much further. Giving extensive shoulder rides to a 16kg child and a 20kg child (up hill, down dale and over stiles) over the weekend was also good exercise.

Just put in 32km for the LSR, surprisingly fine even after my stag do on Saturday. Feels good to burn off all that beer... defo didn't need any extra fuel on the run
I've been thinking about getting some calf guards for a while now, I think they may keep me warm in the winter but I'm dubious about the claims of performance benefits. Does anyone rate them? Are they worth all the stick I'd take for wearing them?

Managed to go over on my ankle the other day-got some impressive bruises around the ankle and not able to run for the moment
Fortunately I iced it straight away-kept on icing it throughout the day and am continuing to ice it now a couple of days after the fact. Thye difference it's making to my recovery is amazing in comparison to pevious times-so ice ice ice for a twisted ankle!

Won my first race at the weekend.
Shame it wasn't really a conventional race. It was just under 5km over 5 laps, at the end of each lap you had to down a pint of ale and then eat a pub snack. At the end of the last lap a full pint had to be drank before the clock was stopped. I did it in 2 minutes something.
Not really sure if i should be boasting about it though?

Did my first-ever split long run yesterday and I'm suffering this morning.
Did 13.5 miles in the pouring rain running to work, worked 7 hours then ran 10 miles home in the blazing sunshine.
Quads are really stiff and it hurts when I sit down or stand up
Was that a distance that you were used to? Did 13.5 miles in the pouring rain running to work, worked 7 hours then ran 10 miles home in the blazing sunshine.

Would you do it again?
I'm contemplating a 9 mile each way run commute, although I may do a train in/run home first. 9 miles would be fine, but 2x9 might be pushing it a bit.
So each leg of the run was within my normal mileage, but the 23 miles was definitely more than I was used to in a day
Joined the Strava Club - now to definitively prove how "L" my LSD runs are!
Calf Guards - I quite like the Compressport ones and find them better than compression socks in fitting terms (I have big feet and short legs). The look is, er, challenging, especially when you have yellow ones like me, but I reckon they work well. Definitely less calf ache, and I have suffered a bit as I've transitioned from a determined heel striker to a mid-foot landing over a couple of years, which has stressed the legs a fair bit.
Not managed my LSD this week - a wedding in Ireland, so unknown lands, plus a rush to be in a suit, meant restricted mileage, but I did run three times in three days, a first for me without total injury and collapse!
Cheers for the tapering tips. I've got a half marathon three weeks out, where I plan to run about 15km beforehand, then do the race at a steady pace, so the hard miles of the longest long run will have supporters! One more decent LSD after that, then 13 days tapering down to a get-myself-round situation. Just need to keep adding the miles to the long run. Not gone over a half yet, and only two months to race day!

My max run at the time was 10miles, then I decided to run to and from work (8.5 miles each way).Would you do it again?

I thought it was a bad move, but it turned out the run home tends to be faster! I thought I would seize up as the day wore on, but nope, all good in the hood.
I now do it regularly and my long runs are up to 15miles.
Ive started doing a spinning class once a week (instead of the sprinting previously discussed, not sure if it was the right thing to do) and my stamina is shot, im really struggling to even finish my mid week 5k's my legs just die, go to jelly and go cold. Any tips/ideas/suggestions?
