Good luck. I went walking around ByC a couple of years ago and some of the hills were very deceptive in terms of their gradients.

All the best with the Masters Championships and hope you enjoy the run.

I've just entered my first race in nearly 4 years, a team relay with 5 per team in about a month. We're putting in a "fast" team of which I'm the 3rd quickest, so looking forward that.
It's hot here today, so running with TJQ later today for an easy 5 and then tomorrow, I go trail running and need to look out for more snakes

Just joined the Strava club (Matt)....great idea.

Anyone else doing Abingdon marathon in October?
Struggled with a cold this week so have taken it easy, bloody annoying though.

Just recce'd the course for tomorrow's World Masters Mountain Running Championships in Betws-Y-Coed. Couple of decent climbs with the second one being the tougher so I'll need to hold back a little for that especially as it's then all downhill to the finish on fast trails.

A couple of the guys who comprehensively beat me in the trial for the World Champs are here, so hopefully I'll be a bit closer to them this time.
Good luck.

Right - I am looking for a half marathon - round south Surrey/North Hampshire - in March or April

Any good suggestions ?

Ran a slow 5m this morning and had a realisation that I need a goal or I may stay under the duvet too often.

My dads 52.
In the past 4 months he has lost 4 stone and a bit running daily and in the past 2 months he is running twice a day. Once at 2:30 and then 21:00.
He has missed maybe 3 or 4 days in them 4 months.
He's upto running 6 miles at 2:30 and 3 miles at 21:00 now and showing no fatigue and tiredness.

Can this hurt him in the long run? (hehe)
I said he might need a rest every now and then for rest but he thinks he is a bionic man now. I don't know best but I thought a rest once a week would do him good?

A rest day is pretty much a requirement for most people .

Cheeky fecker - he's 52 not 152! You'd be surprised at what us wrinklies can get up to! wink

Def rest a part of training (and increasingly in age, all joking aside - it just takes your body a wee bit longer to repair/restore, especially if you pick up an injury - better to start at 80% fitness than 80% health...).
He's running fairly short and fast - maybe his strengths will evolve to longer distance (stamina seems to come easier with a bit of ageing) but either way good on him, especially if he's enjoying it.

Well done Ewan, that's fantastic!

Whichever is faster. The second climb on the course today was nasty so there were a couple of rock steps that I walked but that climb took me up into 6th and gave me a gap that secured 6th and the place on the winning team.

The Achilles issue I had a few days ago seemed to have disappeared following rest and foam (and rolling pin) rolling of the calf muscles. I tentatively went for a steady run this morning in my higher (8mm) drop shoes. All seemed fine so I did a nice, mixed terrain, hilly route that ended up at just under 16K. No twinges whatsoever. Odd.

I'm going to concentrate on calf raises and lowers this week, though.

That's amazing, great running! Just had a look at your strava, that's a couple tough hills!! Well done!!beer

Today I did 16km (longest I have ran in over a year) this morning in about 1hr 20mins so happy enough with that! Was over 3 climbs with combined ascent of around 250+m so not complaining after only being back running 3 months! Just need to keep it up and through winter...!

Well done. A fantasic achievement thumbup

I have just arrived back from my 10k and did a 42.27. Target was sub 45 and I am over the moon. Just a little miffed that I had a break in training of 6 weeks or so as I think I could have dipped under 40. I'm off to have a beer now!

Absolutely over the moon with a 4.35.25 time at the Farnham Pilgrim marathon. My first off road race and some horrific hills especially a 100m climb over 1.2km on sand. Tank was empty at the end and knees destroyed but loved it.
