It is that time of the year, colds and injuries abound, I missed my Thursday run.

New shoes today, much better, I hadn't realised how bad my old ones were. Anyway a new best for my saturday run, 1:01 for 6.93 miles.

Feel like I am really making progress, just want to try to get to 20 miles a week, so I need to find another run in the week.

Quite a milestone for myself and my partner. We have both completed day 1 of week 6 of couch to 5k and completed a full 20min run without stopping (covered around 3.5km in that time) and are both looking forward to a few weeks time where we will attempt our first 5km run. Both getting different pains and I have been getting stitches but some of the techniques seem to make them a little easier - just really hope we can complete our week 8 and our 5km run without any injury then we will get cracking at the 10km....!

Great stuff! Get along to a local Parkrun when you're ready to tackle 5k in one go.

I think I am ready but I am determined to follow the program regardless.....patience is not my strong point.

I've broken myself.

Fantastic run last weekend, 5K at a steady pace, then 100M ascent into woods and a few further climbs, and the final 3K (11K in all) at threshold pace back on the flat, with KM times in the 5 minute bracket - well pleased, plus I'd added a KM onto my longest run.

Ankle felt a bit weird the next day, thought nothing of it. (Monday). Was slightly swollen round the heel area.

Day after went for a little offroad jaunt with hills - just a slow jog with a mate. (Tue night)

Couldn't walk Wednesday morning. Felt like someone had hit the back of my heel with a hammer, and the area was visibly inflamed. Achilles? You betya.

The first 4K of the long run was on sloped pavement, and then the first initial climb into the wood was also at an angle (the same angle!), and I think I've tweaked the base of the tendon with high loads while at an angle. Clearly my increasing muscular strength allowing me to attack the hills has not been mirrored with an associated tendon strength increase!

So - stretching and waiting. I can walk without too much discomfort now - how long before I can run? I think when I return I'll be a bit more careful on the hills for a few months!

Florence Marathon today. First decent long run since another marathon 8 weeks ago (2:57). Wasn't looking forward to it given the lack of training but very happy with a 2:56 and my third sub-3 of the year. Now for more beer...

Nice times smile

Slowly starting to speed up myself ending the year with a half PB 1.41 today. I think I have found a way to steadily increase speed so hopefully can enter the new year in good shape.

First ultra today - self navigating through the muddy countryside and hills of Kent. 55km finishing in the dark - ti e wasn't particularly important and at 9:15 doesn't sound impressive but it was tough and totally different from your average run.

Stunning! Some people never make it to sub-3 despite how hard they try! What's your PB at the distance?

My Mrs was urging me to start parkrun while I was still part way through C25K but I held off until I'd finished the program as I didn't want to look like an idiot walking parts of the course. In hindsight I should have just gone along and done some of my C25K runs at parkrun, plenty of people walk parts of the course and the slower people gets loads of cheers from the faster ones who've already finished.

Due to a cold and working away I've not run for a fortnight, Parkrun on Saturday was very slow, despite cycling (only 4km each way) to work every day the lack of running really showed. I only realised at the weekend that over Christmas I've got a bit more running planned than usual, 5km one day, 2 x 5km (one including a pint of beer half way round) the next day, and an 8km cross country the next day. Clearly I need to get a bit more practice in this month, but the current forecast of heavy rain and 57kph wind isn't helping my resolve to go for a run tonight frown
Impressed with the grip from my new Salomon Speedcross's though

I have discovered it is very hard to impress an internet forum with either weather conditions, terrain or 'toughness'

Time and distance are easier for all runners to understand. So yes the cold stats of 35 miles in 9 and odd hours does indeed sounds like a fast walk. But only you can really know the horror contained within the numbers. Getting lost, wasting time NOT getting lost, the foul weather, the agony of the hills and the slog of trying to cross a ploughed muddy field.

Sounds Character building, even if it won't earn you any racing points on strava.

smile

I hope you enjoyed it

Some very good times being run over the weekend. Well done all. I haven't been running for 5 days as I really cannnot be bothered with all of this rain!

I have just received my Berlin Marathon entry conformation which is great news.

I'm going to aim for 3 full and 2 or 3 halfs next year with some 10ks mixed in too, as well as a triathlon.

Congrats on getting into Berlin. A friend and I are patiently awaiting news on our registrations...

And it's a no for me and the Berlin Marathon. May just investigate other UK marathons at that time of year...

MdS Is on my bucket list, but I cannot afford it, so I think I may have to find an alternative desert jaunt in the future. Very tempting though, because it's the original (or at least the best known!).

Managed a decent effort this lunchtime. Only my third run post-marathon due to lurgy, but put some effort in and got close to 8mm for five miles, which for me in December is pretty good.

Looking forward to a nice, relaxed LSD this weekend and getting back into the swing of three runs a week and some very gradual improvement over the next couple of months.

Anyone doing an advent challenge, run a day type thing?

Did so focused work on my ITB after advice from this thread. Really made almost an immediate difference to the pain I was experiencing.

Was notified from Strava that I'd run 116km in November which was a surprise. I've already ran 15 miles this week and my legs are felling it tonight. Resting them tomorrow then will run again Thursday and Friday. Slowly building myself towards consecutive days and with a back pack.

What did you do? I foam roller mine and stretch it before running but don't do enough and sometimes get related knee trouble.

7 miles in 59 minutes this morning in the drizzling rain.

Pretty happy with that, legs seem to be strengthening now, just need my cardio to catch up.

Got my first race in 4 years on Saturday. Only 5k, but looking forward to it. The last one I entered was "hurricane off" so it will be good to feel the race buzz again.

Had a strange day yesterday as I went to see our horse who likes to run along side me (and gets a little close at times) but yesterday we had races where I set off and he catches me as quickly as he can. I'm not sure quite how we started to play this game, but he loves it and looks at me when he passes me after about 50-100m with a look of "is that all you've got". Anyway, I did 10 sprints with him which was great fun and then he trotted round after me for a while waiting for me to sprint again
