I won that in 2007... the year the course was short so my 30:28 clocking doesn't count frown

Overall it's lumpy with a drop into Elterwater village around halfway that you then climb back up. Good luck and enjoy a beer in the ODG afterwards!
Good shout on the ODG. smile

I've broken myself.

Fantastic run last weekend, 5K at a steady pace, then 100M ascent into woods and a few further climbs, and the final 3K (11K in all) at threshold pace back on the flat, with KM times in the 5 minute bracket - well pleased, plus I'd added a KM onto my longest run.

Ankle felt a bit weird the next day, thought nothing of it. (Monday). Was slightly swollen round the heel area.

Day after went for a little offroad jaunt with hills - just a slow jog with a mate. (Tue night)

Couldn't walk Wednesday morning. Felt like someone had hit the back of my heel with a hammer, and the area was visibly inflamed. Achilles? You betya.

The first 4K of the long run was on sloped pavement, and then the first initial climb into the wood was also at an angle (the same angle!), and I think I've tweaked the base of the tendon with high loads while at an angle. Clearly my increasing muscular strength allowing me to attack the hills has not been mirrored with an associated tendon strength increase!

So - stretching and waiting. I can walk without too much discomfort now - how long before I can run? I think when I return I'll be a bit more careful on the hills for a few months!
Just jogged for a mile on the treadmill at 7.45 minutes per KM. Will see if I can walk in the morning... If so I'll start to ramp back up - mile and a half next time

It was nice to twirl the legs around again!

Hope it went well. News from mates in the Lakes is of flooding and wild weather - hope you get home safe!

How much wear are people getting out of their trail shoes? I ask as I feel like I'm getting a bit less grip in mud in my Speedcross 3's than this time last year. I've only done around 200km in them mind, so I'm not sure if it's more my route choice - I am going steeper and more 'off the beaten track,' than I was last year. Or if I'm just trying to justify buying the latest and greatest model to myself.

And hope the Langdale 10K went alright Spydie - some dramatic weather up there. Great Langdale is a lovely place though, even in the rain.

I'm afraid not Ewen frown - it was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. We got about 70 miles from home before we found out, but at least didn't do the last hour of the drive.

I had to console myself with an 8 mile trail/fell run over pendle hill at home - that was fun smile

19:19 in the jingle jog at Cumming ( yes that really is the name of the town) Georgia today for 5th place and 2nd vet male. Winner was 18:24 and the curse was brutally hilly (my mate ran 19:00 at and is a 17:50) runner.
1st race in 4 years and pretty pleased but not as pleased as the missus who ran 23:13 .

Not surprised. Skelwith Bridge is flooded along with Ambleside. I've been in Burnley all afternoon at my nieces' joint 2nd/4th birthday party, so quite close to Pendle - bet it was a touch blowy up there today!

My first pair of innov's were fine to about 600 miles. But the last pair I reckon only did around 350 before they were done for. Maybe I am getting more picky.

I was able to manage my first half decent off road run in 5 weeks this morning. 7k of mud plugging and puddle wading around my nearest footpaths and up and down a small hill.

It felt good to be back.

I now know the feeling. Got to week 6 of couch to 5k then got cold/flu. Done nothing for a week and could be another week before I get out for a light run to get back to it.GUTTED

Mods:
If you are going to start a volume 2 (we are at 10000 posts), can you include the Strava group on the first post to ensure that we don't have to keep re-posting the link

It is very annoying. At least a cold doesn't last long. Flu is far more serious, and is not a cold, and should definitely be rested through.

Just found the group on Strava thanks to the links above biggrin

On a running note, I had to take the tube to work this morning as had to carry a few hand tools in my back pack. Meant the run home tonight was on fresh rested legs. Even getting no luck at any of the lights on the way home I got a PB for the route and just tucked under the 8:00 minute mile average. Very happy but as I should be more focused on slow constant runs todays may hurt me tomorrow!!

Seems like I'm finally getting over the long-term lurgy I've had - had a couple of decent runs without total collapse. Shocking stuff. Loving the pressure-free winter running and pondering over next year's races.

So just joined the strava group.

Been running about 2 years on and off (42 years old in January) got into park runs this year and from a 25 minute first run, my pb is 21:23 now.

Done a few 5k, 10ks and my first half marathon this year, even started some 5k trail races too.

Run between 30 & 40k a week

Have set myself a few targets for 2016 :

Sub 20 5k
Sub 42 10k
Sub 1:40 half

Currently at :

20:52 5k
45:55 10k
1:47:43 half

Nice targets. I reckon you'll quite easily go sub 1:40 on the half marathon on your next outing with some focused training based on your 5k PB. I remember doing 1:37 with a 20:53 5k PB a couple of years ago.

I think there is time to come as I think I've only ran half marathon distance 6 times, not one since September really so need to give that a try.
