Haven't been able to run since last Tuesday after not being able to shift this damn cold.

I've got a 10k this Sunday so really want to get out and get some miles under my belt, just to get relaxed about it.

I still feel crap, but am going to drag myself out tomorrow at 06:30 without fail.

Just back from the Long Distance Walkers Association's Founders Challenge, near Dorking. 27.5 miles and 4300ft of climb. Very tough, ran with some great guys. Stopped for a pee and lost the others, but managed to finish in 4.59 half an hour before them. Felt like my toenail had been ripped out though, lots of walking up steep climbs and killer descents that were too steep to control yourself safely running and walking was almost as bad. Got to the last 3 miles which were hell, 4 big hills which you could only walk.

Luckily fab scenery, great meal at the end, wonderful company and spectacular weather. All for £7. Highly recommended.

Good effort. Know that area well, particularly round the back of Ranmore - some of that is more akin to a cliff than a slope!

sundays long run planned with the group is meant to be a "tough one" this week....around 16 miles at sub 6:15/mile so know by the end i'm gonna be in a world of pain, so instead of doing my hard sessions thursday and saturday i'm planning today and thursday or friday hehe

not sure if i'm recovered enough from the XC race saturday though for a long LT session (4.8 miles at goal LT.....circa 5:45/mile, 3mins rest, 1.6miles at goal LT). with warm up and warm down it's around a 10 mile session.

Well.....went in to the shop with the anticipation of spending circa £80-90 on some shoes and then maybe £60-70 on some clothing (so total approx £100 after the £50 discount) and ended up getting over £200 of gear and spending £155 hehe

got some new shoes, some expensive asics "inner muscle" tights and 2 decent base layers and 1 thin "outer layer" - all long sleeved.

my LT session went alright at best. averaged 5:55/mile over the 6.4 miles of LT but didn't feel too fresh and it was very windy and also rained for a bit of it so considering i raced just 2 days before don't think it was too bad to be honest, at least it was sub 6min/mile.

it's not meant to be cold tomorrow morning but looking forward to giving the lycra a go....at least it'll be dark hehe

Christ it was cold (and windy) this morning. Think I will follow suit and gets some too. At least it is dark in the mornings when I go out.

i have a pair of running tight things and they're ace, i've only worn them once but they are really comfy and warm. i'm still a bit embarrassed about them. some old ladies with dogs turned around to stare at me when i ran past.

Legs are dead today. We did a 'devil takes the hindmost' session yesterday, basically 5 of us in a line going round the track, person at the back sprints to the front then the next person goes, repeat for 30 minutes. I had no idea of what it was beforehand, it just sounded painful.

It was horrific, we averaged under 6 min/mile for the 30 mins and I was the 'weakest' in our line so was really struggling to haul myself up to the front. Because there was only 5 of us we were making ~3 efforts of ~7-8 secs per lap, and because we were just going round and round the track the only thing I could think of was the next effort and how painful it was going to be.

p.S: Ross, £200 on running kit? Good effort!

Only issue I have at the moment is my soleus is quite sore. Definitely soleus and not gastrocnemius. Will see if I can get a colleague to treat me at lunch today. Glad I got my LT out of the way yesterday. Tomorrow is easy 6.5 miles or so, Thursday will be 8.5 miles, Friday morning hill session and easy 4-5 miles in the evening. Saturday off then beasty long run Sunday! Apparently it's 100 mins at 6:15/mile or so. That's gonna hurt, not sure if I can hang on for that long to be honest.

That sounds like an awesome session - would love to try something like that but I'm a pretty solitary runner and the only people I run with tend to be other participants at races. Saying that, I recently had a chat with the president of a local running club after a Parkrun and he suggested I attend a few of their sessions to see if I take to it or not. I'm most interested in their speedwork nights, which I enjoy on my own but find I can slack off a little on occsion.

Very much struggling with my recovery since my trail marathon at the weekend. Off my feet and on the sofa for 2 days, not like me at all. I have the Stort30 on Sunday, 30 miles but at least it is flat.

It was very tough but certainly felt like I earned the pint that I had later that night! I'd definitely reccomend joining a group, it certainly helps. 8 miles and circuits today, I'm racing the gwent league at the weekend but not easing down too much for it (excuses in already hehe). Ewen and Ross are you racing there?

I no longer do Gwent league since moving back down south, I do the Hampshire cross country league instead. Similar standard I guess, maybe a bit higher, I came 57th on Saturday. Beat a mate who is a sub 35 10k runner which is promising.

Lovely 6.5 miles this morning at 6:55/mile. Felt absolutely fantastic and last 3 miles were 6:50, 6:40 and 6:35 and it just felt so easy. I'm loving the lycra hehe

I might be there, need to check family commitments for this weekend. Although the prospect of 10k around the fields of Bridgend on Sunday afternoon doesn't fill me with joy and enthusiasm! hehe

Had an ace run last night in my new shoes. I've done this route probably over a 60 times with my Pb being 30:28 then last night I did it in 29:52. It's just a 4.44 mile loop so pace was @ 6:44 min/mi but it has over 530 ft of elevation.. I don't know weather I had a good run or it was the trainers that did it for me but either way I'm happy. My trainers are Nike Run Free 2's btw, they are sooo light.

Wow you're right, I thought these were light but after comparing to those they're over twice as heavy.

252 vs 120 grams.
