Finished my first Marathon in Berlin on Sunday, absolutely loved it!

Amazing experience and great support from the crowd. The cheering fans, bands, drummers and guys playing German Horns really kept me motivated clap

I started out much too fast following the sea of runners, I eventually found a pacer (3:30) and stuck behind him for about half of the race. However as the race went on it was clear I couldn't keep up, my legs felt horrendous by 35km but I managed to get across the line in 3:43

I was chatting to a guy on the plane on the way home. He said he didn't bring any gels with him, so when he arrived at an aid station he picked up a handful and consumed 7 in one go wobble that cant be good for the guts...

Despite training for about 8 months, nothing prepared me for how broken my legs felt the day after. Wow!
Amazing, well done clap

I'm thinking of doing the Berlin Marathon next year so good to hear it's a nice atmosphere etc to run in. Have applied for London 2016 but know that chances of getting in are very slim so never count on it so think of doing maybe Paris or Geneva so will see! Will be my first marathon too smile

Usually the answer is yes that would be ok, but if you are new to running or went really hard on Monday am, then consider resting more. Runners build up distance/speed/frequency over time and it's a sure fire way to get injured by over-training

Managed my first non stop trail run this weekend. 5K in 35 minutes, I'm pretty chuffed with that for someone who's still overweight and not been running that long. It really is mind over matter. I even managed another 1K when running back to the car after I had stopped for 10 minutes to rest.

I'm hoping to improve my general fitness, but I my find my commitment lacking sometimes and I need to kick myself. I had started running with friends, but they drop out for various reasons and so I'm relying on myself and enjoying it.

"The online ballot for the 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon is now closed. If you entered the ballot, we will let you know at the start of October 2015 whether or not you have been successful. If you have not heard from us by Wednesday 7 October, please contact our helpdesk on 020 7902 0200. Please do not call until after Wednesday 7 October as we will not be able to give out ballot results over the phone until then."

Not too sure why it takes so long to do the ballot as it closed in April just after this years race. Surely it would be better for all participating to be able to get as much training in as possible.

And the Cardiff Half is on BBC Wales on Sunday, too (accessible via iPlayer for the non-Welsh).

Excellent running.

I have the Frankfurt Marathon in a little over 3 weeks and I should be fitter for it but I will just see how it goes. Was looking at dipping under 3.45 but will just have to see how it goes. I too am considering the Berlin Marathon next year along with Frankfurt again.

A few people from my running club ran Berlin this year and said it was scenic but the course had too many pinch points in it.

I believe you have to backup your predicted time from another German event as well otherwise you get put to the back of the pack which causes further issues.

Glencoe marathon this weekend, should be good, 1,600m ascent and all trail. I've done the route twice already this year in a support capacity for my wife's WHW 95 miler and Devil of the Highlands 43 miler, so it'll be nice to be able to stretch it out a bit.

One for the fell runners:

Tights for winter use for fell races, for a beginner that is likely to be moving slowly at times and feels the cold. Any recommendations? Whilst I won't say budget not an issue, I don't want to have to buy twice either.
