The interesting thing is that up until the last few years I was a fanatical follower of football. Played it all my life, watched it on telly and live all my life.

Then with the change from a good contest between men to the farce we have now (diving, jostling refs to get others sent off, general acting like tossers) I lost interest. I much prefer a good game of rugby now!!!
Garyhun - if memory serves me, you're also a Watford fan?

I've also started going far less, and for a lot of the reasons given above (along with becomming a Dad a year ago, admittedly). Along with the over-commercialisation and general lack of care for the supporter from Football - not sure when I'll be going back!

I never "got" football

While ago I was asked by some nobhead in a pub "What team do you support?"

When I told him I did not really have any interest in football, he called me a censored and offered me "out for a fight"

London , Saturday . Museum street.

Nice bunch of people /tourists all having a drink..hot day etc.
then arrives a group of Bristish rugby fans whoes team had been playing some "french" team ? How these lads i guess where from "Up north" and a bit excited by London. They had this idea that each and every bloke not in their group was "gay" and made a boring point of making sly comments. They smashed the window (Old antique glass) in the pub and went off to another bar. There they where met at the door by 5 police units. who showed them "Northerners" what happens when you act the Ku*T . It was lovely to see them have the smile taken of their faces. They all got arrested.

everyone in the new bar settles down to a nice drink and some music..

On the way home The tube was packed full of the French teams fans . all well behaved and not loud etc.

I think the referees / officials / governing bodies need to be accountable for some of the violence. When you see football players are crowding a ref over a decision they dont agree with, swearing and trying to be intimidating. That must get the crowd worked up as well. Why not just have a rule, if you argue with the ref, even once, your off. No questions asked, and banned for a game (at least) and no wages that week. They should also get a match ban for spitting, but thats another matter.

Tis true. Pub in Woodley 2 years back after some big match or another was on. One of my mates was wearing an Arsenal shirt at the time which started the conversation.

true!!

simple 10 yard rule. the ref decides who he wants to approach him. all others must stay away. yellow card to anyone else who come close.

That would be great but they tried it in some lower divisions in holland or something but the footballers were too thick to grasp the concept and it ended up with most of the teams getting sent off for ignoring the ten yard exclusion zone repeatedly.

Hmmmm.... Woodley - yes there are some moody people in a couple of moody pubs, especially that one that is kind of in a park... but to be offered out because you didn't follow a team is a bit far fetched IMO, unless you said it in a particularly moody way - they don't take to certain ways in parts of Woodley.

Nope all polite - it was as straightforward as

Guy came over, saw my mates Arsenal shirt, commented on how Arsenel got beaten by someone else at some point blah blah, then he turned to me and said "Who do you support?"

I simply replied "I dont really have any interest in football, sorry mate"

He then got very abusive say that I must be some sort of ccensoredt as I did'nt like football and "ccensoredts like me shouldnt be in a pub when football is on" and that he would "kick my head in" if he saw me again.

Trust me my mate was as surprised as I was...

So from offering you out for a fight, he merely threatened to beat you up next time? Very consistent. As I said, most who have a grudge against football supporters have never been to any matches, or merely believe the tripe written in the media. There are lots of footy supporters on PH, so obviously we all must be ,mental yobs, who go around beating people up, and being obnoxious...
There is nothing quite like judging the majority on the absolute minority is there rolleyes Harking back to the 70's and 80's is hardly justified nowadays. Get over yourselves. If you don' like it, fine, but stop the incessent whining.
