that's great because every village needs it's idiotessentially the back bone of the team was there when Jose took over but seeing as Ranieri did lead the team to a CL semi and 2nd in the league he wasn't doing too badly with minimal funds

He was certainly entertaining so will be missed in that regard. Shame the team were not so entertaining but I guess if it aint broke....

I don't think he had the strength of character to have been able to deal with a disgruntled squad of players who were placed in rotation - JM is more steely in that respect
Shame this didn't happen 3 months ago - I'd be quite happy to see Sven at the bridge
Has this Grant guy done anything other than manage a couple of Israeli teams? Seems an odd choice.Shame this didn't happen 3 months ago - I'd be quite happy to see Sven at the bridge

futhermore, how much have Liverpool, Arsenal and the Manchesters spent on players? Silly me, they get all their's on a free and we spent the most in the closed season didn't we... change the record, it's 3 seasons old
Well said.Personally I will miss JM, he was an excellent manager and an amusing bloke to boot. Anyone that thinks his success is only down to the cash he had available is jumping onto an ill-informed bandwagon, and a good look at his career so far will show he usually manages to get the best out of people. He's also one of the only managers I've ever seen that can turn a poor game completely on it's head by altering his tactics.
As for the future of Chelsea, I'm happy to take bets from all those who think they're heading down the slippery slope. They're NOT heading towards relegation and they're not going to lose all their best players in the new year. Generally-speaking, Abramovich has a fine relationship with his players, and I don't see that changing all of a sudden.
The future of Manchester United; now that's an interesting one. £100million a year in loan repayments is enough to cripple anybody, especially when the team is being operated as a company and is expected to be a financial success.

Well thats the point isn't it. They are run as a company and £100m to service my debt on their turnover would certainly keep me awake if I were FD.Chelsea are not run as a company but as a banana republic so for as long as Roman in interested who gives a toss about the relationship between spending and revenue (having said that, Kenyons comments about being financially independant of Roman in 5 years are laughable. He should be £250kpa saving for Chelsea straight away. Total waste of space)

you're not Utd are you by any chance?
that sounded a tad bitter
Yes, but not that Utd. Carlisle so can be totally objective!!!that sounded a tad bitter
I'm not being critical of Chelseas financial situation, it is what it is. Solvent as a trading entity they aint and saying otherwise is just plain silly. If I was a Man U fan I'd be petrified at having spent what they did, on top of £100m of debt and owners who don't run the club like a plaything. That has all the hallmarks of going belly up.
If Roman were to go but cancelled all the debt (most likely) then there would be some belt tightening but not the implosion that many are hoping for.
who knows what goes through his mind - sacking the head coach before the biggest game of the season so far and one game into the CL isn't what I'd call good practice
agree with your comments WRT Utd but weren't the Glaziers offered £150m for the club plus the debt value?
there must still be some value in the club if there's serious offers being made

Sure - its the most valuable brand in the industry and they would never fold. But you can almost see a situation where Arsenal (best debt structure in the league, if not the world), Liverpool, Chelsea and others have more purchasing power than Utd because of the strain on debt. agree with your comments WRT Utd but weren't the Glaziers offered £150m for the club plus the debt value?

Anyway, I think 1-0 Chelsea on Sunday.

As much as I would love that, I think the game is going to be overhyped given the current status of management in Chelsea, added to the natural and dominating rivalry that already exists between these two clubs (still the two 'forces' of English football and IMHO a cert for 1st and 2nd places in the league - in whichever order.)It all points towards a nil-nil draw methinks.
Edited as I'm a bit of a thicko.
