I can appreciate the effort that goes into the training, planning and then the race itself but everything else that goes with it is total and utter crap. The public school trust fund brigade who fill the pubs and banks with shirt collars turned up and don't actually watch the race talking about pearl earings and if they will use Mimi's or Rupert's dads ski chalet this year is enough to make you sick.
I'll take a punt on your username Mersey boy, but I would prefer to be around Putney & Hammersmith on boat race day than that porcine wannabe WAG fashion parade that is the Grand National week! biggrin

He's got a good point though!

Well i'm Portuguese, just happen to have lived in the North West for many years. I find chav culture in the UK hysterical, almost as hysterical as the silver spoon, shirt collar turned up public school brigade.

Eng classes eh, gotta love em. just glad i don't conform to any of them.

(oh and i disagree, i'd rather be at either the chav fests that are the GN or Ascot than the boat race any day of the week)

I genuinely love this
I don't care about any snoberry / chavs/ etc etc. I love it because of the aerial shots of the river. The
To me it is simply wonderful
Todays womens race is really something with an attempted bump whilst in the others water and a likely victory by Cambridge.
Up to the bump attempt this was a fantastic race one of the best I've seen.
It's great telly and on such a good day weather wise its just adding into the great easter weekend.

It's great viewing. Oxford Cox lost the race, for sure.

Cambridge wandered over a bit when they got ahead but the Oxford cox steered strongly at them to get the bump. If he hadn’t applied rudder it would have been a much more difficult decision.

This mens race is bloody good too.
Cambridge have a real lead at this point and I would be surprised if Oxford can now catch them.

One of the commentators said if the race had been another 800 yards or so it may have made a differenece but the distance was just too far to catch them.
The Rower you mention looks completely shattered. He can't get out of the boat. Fantastic effort.

As a Chiswick resident it's a fantastic day where everyone comes out and parties along the river and then on into the night! Ended up in two random houses with great hospitality and company with folk I've never met or likely meet again.
The 2 senior races were superb, the men's was very tight until just after Hammersmith bridge. By the time they reached us as Chisick Eit Cambridge had a 2 length lead so something went very wrong in the Oxford boat. Cambridge stroke left nothing in the tank - was a bit concerning for a few seconds at the finish.
My neighbour was piloting the journo boat (red rib) and said the general standard of river craft was very poor, particularly the camera boat. He did enjoy travelling significantly faster than would normally be allowed along that stretch of the Thames though!

E-coli poisoning for some of the crews......

I thought they should have cancelled it, to make a point about the filth in the water......
