I'm in Las Vegas for the 27th September and I'd have broken the bank for Jones vs Cormier...

Now I'll just watch it in a bar with some chicken wings.

Nah, kidding aside he's a beast, but it's hard to say after that fight whether he's as good as ever - it wasn't testing his endurance. Still got the potential to spoil someone's day, clearly. I do hate that I see fighters at 35 and wonder what they're doing, I'm far too cynical.
He looked a fair bit fitter this fight than his first back, so another few months to get fitter probably by his next fight.

As long as he keeps getting fitter inbetween fights then by the time he gets a big challenge he could well be up there with the best again. He was certainly a real beast in the past.

For those that have the dedication, I reckon that they can do it without extras, like Aleksandr Karelin.
The trouble with the life of the MMA star, are outside 'extras' and the social life.

I think you can do MMA at a high level without any hormonal extras at a young age, but there's no way you could compete at highest level past your mid-30's without Test/HGH as your body just can't deal with the rigours of it, especially in the UFC when they want you fighting 3-4 times a year

I've been around the sport a long time and can see the stress it causes on your body, most the guys i train with once they've been doing it 3-5+ years they'e carrying a lot of injuries and for those of us in our 30's and beyond it's a real grind. I personally am going to retire from competing after my next fight at the end of November as i'm just so riddled with injuries from the years of training and my bodies inability to recover quick enough to train twice a day 5-6 days a week and i'm only 31. i did consider Test/HGH etc to prolong the time i can compete but it doesn't feel ethically right and i'd also pay for it in later life so i'm planning to drop my training to 3-4 times a week and just compete in the occasional grappling comp or Thai fight

anyway, this weekend's card looks superb from top to bottom, the main event is actually one of the fights i'm least bothered about. can't wait

Just seen the McGregor fight on MMA Core... He's looking good! Wouldn't have bothered til later but manage to see the result, despite my best efforts not to!

Will catch up with the rest this evening.

Romero was one of the most insane things i've seen in a while. The guy just looks like a monster.

Conor did look good, but I don't really feel he was actually tested.

I've just finished Cerrone - Alvarez. Wow, that was good. For someone to take as many hits as he did in round one and go on to win is amazing.

I agree about McGregor. Didn't look like a fight at all.

Onto Johnson - Cariaso now.

Just finished watching... The Cat fight was really good. Romero - I hope the fighter/corner are fined. Hard. Connor - interesting. Cowboy - funny guy. Mighty Mouse as expected.

This, I thought that was fking diabolical. How they managed to get away with that. Doing it so obviously too...

Apparently he had too much grease on his face which needed to be removed. The cut men who apply it are independent of the fighters. Romero's corner left the stool in there, but the officials weren't going to let Romero go out with that amount on his face. So he took advantage and stayed sitting. It was up to John to tell him to get up and go.

Kevin Iole @KevinI · 37m
The inspector told the corner to wipe off Romero's face which is why the delay happened

So for the ~30 seconds before that, when the inspector was trying to shoo out the corner, and they were refusing to go, for so long that even Rogan remarked on it - that's normal and above board?

That's what I was going to say, it all happened before that .gif. They were being shooed out and weren't going, then suddenly there was too much stuff on his face. All very fishy.

Just had a look on twitter to see if anything was going on about this. Romero retweeted with this:

Kennedy simply quoted the rules:

I don't think that's bhing about it really. Saying that, some valid points on this thread...

I was furious while watching it and even more so when Tim lost the fight.
BUT on reflection, it was the UFC employed cut man who had the mishap with the vaseline, which contributed to the whole mess.

Still, as Dana said, "the dirtiest trick in the book." Leaving the stool in there was ridiculous.

I think an immediate rematch is necessary and fair.

That's the thing about this sport, one lucky punch can change the tide of the bout. Tim had just had that punch before the bell went, we can't say for definite but it's likely that the extra seconds sitting down were enough for Yoel to recover enough and win the fight. Without those seconds would that have happened?

Fantastic card, best I've watched for some time. Two of my favourite fighters won too so i'm very happy. All the main card fights were really good (although the main event was a bit one sided)
