He held the WWE Championship for 434 days, which is impressive.

CMPunkBITW - I'm going to guess you are a fan of the WWE, and also deduce an age range. I'm sorry if this thread causes you to lose some notions of WWE. Personally I enjoy segments of the WWE for some hangover brain-out TV. There isn't anything 'wrong' about it. But it will go the same way as Santa, the Easter Bunny and the like. But the tooth fairy is real.

Was more making a point that you don't hold the title that long without being good. He is one of the best ever on the mic IMO. Hence why I sure can't wait to see him in the octagon, least he is happy there unlike in the WWE.

In the WWE, it's all about the back-stage clout, and how many t-shirts you can sell. The most talented performers for a decade are currently mid-carders (Santino and Mizdow) - but I don't see them holding the gold. Unlike (most of) the real world - you have to be able to back up the words with action. Which is why in this weight class, Weidman rules and Bisping won't hold the belt ever.

I think you're missing the point of UFC...Chael Sonnen aside.

I'm interested to see what happens. Brock was better than I ever expected. Still got smashed though.

He is 36 and lacking high level training and experience. He may win a few against journeymen fighters but this smells like a marketing exercise more than anything. Fair play to him for giving it a go though, takes some ba**s!

Brock got smashed when he had already mentally moved on from the UFC thinking his competitive career was over due to his meat addiction.
There have been numerous WWE (and pro wrestling in general) faces who have been legit tough guys/shooters.
Some get offered the chance to leap (like Haku), some desperately try (like Lashley), some live in both worlds with ease (Shamrock/Severn/Lesnar etc).
Don't know how CM Punk will fare, never been a fan, but I am interested in any WWE alma mater that makes the jump.

IMO Lesnar had a huge advantage in there, this difference alone made it for him.

Interestingly, there is a story of a backstage wrestling match, in which Kurt Angle faced Brock Lesnar. Back when Lesnar first joined the WWE. The story is that Kurt won, but Lesnar disputes that.
Kurt Angle was an Olympic standard wrestler, and back then, he wasn't utterly fked and a physical wreck.

DC looked a bit too tense/emotional at the weigh in for my liking. He needs to relax or he's gona be spent before the fight starts!
Can't wait for this one though, might even stay up coz I don't think I'm gona be able to sleep. I think Jones will win by decision but would love to see DC pull it off.

I quite fancy a DC win. As always though, reach is going to be a difficult thing to overcome when facing Jones.

Whatever happens, I think we'll see the best of both - Suspect JJ will have trained his bum off for this one, more so than usual.

Anyone want to play guess how many eye pokes we'll see? I'm going for a conservative 2 biggrin

I'm fascinated by this. For me, it all hinges on how well DC can get through Jones' striking and use his wrestling.

Jack Slack did a very interesting article about that here. http://fightland.vice.com/blog/killing-the-king-jo...

DC - win TKO
Rumble win - TKO
Cowboy win - submission

Edit - Does anyone else feel sorry for Gus? I'm still not convinced he lost to JBJ, after which he disposed of Manua very quickly, and has sat still until he's fed to Rumble - who in my estimation is scarier than DC.

Heh. Looks like I got the Rumble fight date wrong.

Well, I'm a bit deflated after that. I expected so much, and it just didn't deliver. Shame.

Just watched DC vs JJ, I'm surprised at how predictable it all became, slice of humble pie for someone I think.

Indeed. For a few seconds it seemed like there might be a glimmer.
