my personal opinion of Murray has never changed: he is a miserable git but a great player and I will support him as he is of this fair isle

I don't think so. He's beaten the best, even if it's "only" over the best of 3. He just needs to consistently get in the last four of majors and get the experience of playing them when they play at full steam.

FWIW I think he will win a slam at some point in his career. He was the US junior champ. It's within him to do it.

I think when I watched Tim play you were hoping the other player wouldn't bring their A game to the court and Tim would have a blinder, one seemed to happen but not both. Andy seems to be able to almost (but not quite atm) play on level terms.

and don't get me started on his 'entourage' and/or coaching team, pumping their fists at every point won like a bunch of baboons.

Murray needs a really good coach to sort his technique and head out, get rid of the hangers on and perhaps spend some time away from his predatory shark like mother as well, that would be a start
That damn entourage. All 4 of them, although 1 has never cheered ever. So that is 2 people that celebrate every point won, a bit like the rest of the crowd.
Hehe. Miles Mac his coach. Jez Greenwood is it? He is the guy who is his fitness and conditioning coach and has been the main guy in turning him into the new superfit lean machine with the stamina to play multiple 4hrs 5 set matches. Who is the other one? His mum?

Its not really an entourage is it?
lol yes fair enough not quite the entourage, he has cut this down a lot. They were still pumping there arms a lot though, it's the pumping fist clenching that gets to me, illogical maybe but it is so base! Clearly not enough stamina to stay with Federer for 3 sets, he looked shattered after two

that's another thing, how does Federer remain so fit and injury free, he certainly does not look like a superfit mean machine yet outlasts them all with energy to spare?
The Eurosport commentators on Sunday were saying he claims he just plays a lot of tennis, and doesn't do all the gym work and running that Murray does. Of course, if he has the skills to make his opponent run all over the court while he stands in one place (exaggeration of course) then he is going to out-last them in the match...

astonishing really unless all this gym work is not as good as people think...

I think you are exaggerating massively tbh smile, he is one of the best movers out there, hugely quick around the court and is there at the ball almost telepathically, look at the way he can run around his backhand for those huge forehands and still be back in position just in case it comes back! Just look at Wimbledon last year, Roddick was a mess Federer looked as though he had just gone for a jog round the block

Errr he wasn't good enough on the day, as he says himself.

Not good enough now, especially on clay. What would be good enough for you im? Is it win or nothing? Should he retire now? Or is it the media hype about him you're believing?

Yep - just win 2 GS's (1 win could be deemed fortunate, 2 less so) to live up to all the hype - then I'll be a convert

So you judge him against media hype rather than against his competitors? How peculiar.

We'd all like him to win a couple of slams but only those blinded by our notoriously fickle sports media (everyone is either the greatest or rubbish, no middle ground) believe that it's something he should easily achieve.

Plus the fact we are living in an age with probably the most gifted tennis player the world has ever seen, and the only time he ever looses is to Nadal on clay or to Nadal when Nadal is playing out of skin.

Even if Murray had got through yesterday I couldn't seem him beating either of those two men in this tournement.

So - can Murray break the British mould and win a Grand Slam tournament?
Better judges of tennis than me think he'll get one some day, but I don't know.
I can't see him ever winning on clay, so that leaves US, Australia or Wimbledon.
The competition's pretty stiff - Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Del Potro, Soderling, etc, etc. Plus quite a few juniors coming through.

Except he is now OUT. Great performance by Soderling. First time in 23 Slams that The Fed has not made the semis - incredible.

Just how much longer WILL he go on?

2-3 years? I know he is a class act and all that but he's a legend already ... suppose it depends when he loses that hunger and competitive edge. What gets me though is that he never LOOKS like he has it though - typical Swiss hehe

It's telling that Andy's forced into stressing his 'Britishness' these days when he previously was proudly Scottish (which, I assume, he still is). The power of PR and advertising I think!

Murray vs Nadal feels like it ought to be the final. Hard to see the other semi-final protagonists challenging unless Murray and Nadal destroy each other in an epic five setter.

Murray needs to keep Nadal running. Those knees are living on borrowed time.

The power of a pushy public and the bloody media more like. Good grief, I mean how dare he be himself!

I'm impressed by his patience - In his position I'd have shouted at interviewers that "I'm Scottish AND British, you f***ing idiots! There's no contradiction there!".

This year it's been the "will he bow to the Queen?" media frenzy based on a desperately twisted interpretation of Murray asking what the proper protocol and etiquette is - he didn't say he wouldn't bow, he said he didn't want to get it wrong.

At least our top tennis player is performing well. If only some of those so-called "professional" soccer players could follow suit. A semi-final would have been a good result...

I think Nadal is beatable but Murray needs to get his first serves in. The rest of his game has been working well this fortnight but the first serve percentages have been too variable. With Federer out this is a golden opportunity though.

It would be great if Murray wins - but if he loses, as long as the Guy has [i]tried[/] and played his heart out then he has my respect and I won't be knocking him.

It is the media who tries to make an issue of this. He has almost always referred to himself as British, even before he became a top flight player.
