It's telling that Andy's forced into stressing his 'Britishness' these days when he previously was proudly Scottish (which, I assume, he still is). The power of PR and advertising I think!
It is the media who tries to make an issue of this. He has almost always referred to himself as British, even before he became a top flight player.
He gets a lot of grief from the media in this country who seem to be constantly trying to frame him as the grumpy Scottish bugger, twisting whatever jokes or comments he makes. We sat next to his grandparents two years ago in the players lounge/restuarant at Wimbledon and they were talking about him and how much he hates that part of the game. Apparently he's a very private person, just wants to get on with it, play good tennis and win.

I've lived in Aberdeenshire for 20 years and I've yet to meet a Scot who refers to themselves as British wink.

Some of the old Scots do (Scottish first then British) - but the youngsters see themselves as Scottish.

Some of my family are Scottish, they consider themselves to be British.

In fact I can only see football fans being the exception.

So you ask them "Are you British or Scottish" and they answer British do they ?

They're in a minority if they do - a very small minority.

Ask them Nationality I am sure they would say British.

They would also refer to themselves as Scottish.

Much like I am a British Yorkshireman.

At international sports, who do the Scottish play for/support other than Football/Rugby/Cricket?

I am pretty sure it is Team Great Britain.

Maybe it is just because they are educated and they actually know their nationality.

They aren't football fans I know of, Rugby..yes.

They are all over 40.

You should ask them - I'd be genuinely interested in their response to "What's your Nationality".

I'm from Scotland and my nationality is British. There's plenty of people like that who think they are Scottish and British. I'm sure many people in England would say they are English and then British, some might say British first. Scotland isn't that different.

Most folk from Britain will admit they're British - some are more reluctant than others.

If you really want to wind up the Scots - Call them English winkbiggrin (Or Scotch).

ps How old are you - and what do your kids think they are ?

I may be proven wrong but his face just doesn't look like he thinks he can win this match.

Not surprising, Nadal is the greatest player on the planet, has been for some time and seems to have an answer to anything. It must be bloody frustrating to play him.

I would consider getting to the semi-final whilst only losing 1 set en-route before playing a man you've already beaten this year but losing in 3 straight sets comprehensively "crashing out".

The title of this thread is still very much valid I'm afraid.

I wouldn't say it was crashing out,

He is ranked in the top 5,made quarter finals and was beaten by a higher ranked player.
