I hope I eat my words, but he seems unable to do the job in the grand slams, whereas Federer and Nadal seem to find an extra gear for those while not caring so much about the lesser events.
this is exactly how I see it, although I think that both Nadal and Federer are actually better than Murray.Murray does well when it's best of 3, but when the chips are down in the GS, he gets made to look ordinary - Federer took him to school in the Aus Open Final, as did Nadal at Wimbledon.

Did he steal your girlfriend at school or something?
Nah.He just got trumpeted by everyone (including some on here - but mainly the media) as the 'real deal'.

He's clearly better than Henman and if he's going to win a Slam it'll be on a hard court. He certainly has an issue when the pressures on but having players like Fed and Nadal around doesn't help although he's beaten both multiple times.
...and Henman would beat Sampras etc in the smaller tournaments.Zod said:
Even if he wins though, people will say that he won because he didn't have to play Nadal or Sampras Federer in the final. He needs to win this and then beat one of those two in another slam final.
...you'd better believe it Zod, because it'll be true.Me for starters.
But ffs, Henman never had this big a gift-horse to gape into...If Murray don't win it now...

Eh, what people? Only that chippy bloke who started this thread.
Are you only a grand slam winner if you beat the number one or two in a grand slam tournament now? Is your win not as valued if those ranked above you were knocked out by someone else? What nonsense.

You're right though, your win is not as valued if those ranked above you were knocked out by someone else...how can it be? Being the underdog and winning is always more 'valued'.
