As has been said on a Sports post, Murray has done a very good job of manipulating the rankings and frankly does not deserve his No2 spot in terms of talent, yet, much like Safina in the women's game, she is world No1 and has yet to win a slam

He is a good player but whether he will be a great player still remains to be seen, he will retain his no2 spot after the US I think, but we all know who it really belongs to. he is top 10 for sure but there are a fair few other players who I personally rate higher than Murray. And now that people have figured out how to beat his 'anti-tennis' game he is gonig to lose a lot more.

As for comparing him to Henman that remains to be seen, but give Tim a break he was a very good player for a very long time just could not take that one (huge) step to becoming a slam winner and frankly Murray has yet to do that either, he has gone one better than Henman but he still lost!

An amusing comment from someone who clearly hasn't got a clue.

May I present to you evidence Murray has clearly done a lot better than 'Tiger' Tim:

Number 1 ranking
3 times GS champion (x2 the Holy Grail that is Wimbledon)
11 GS finals (on all 4 surfaces)
14 Masters 1000 (only missing is Indian Wells and Monte Carlo)
2 times Olympic Gold champion
1 Davis Cup
43 career titles to date

His place in the Hall of Fame is assured for someone who plays 'anti tennis'.

I am not huge Tennis fan or even a fan of Andy Murray however you can only give great credit to the lad who has had so many knocks along the way only to get up and work harder. He is number one in the world and its a well earned position.

Seems to be a fairly common problem that the best players have a bit of a problem with doping. Also rather unusual for British sporting cheats to get caught.

You do realise that the post you replied to goes back to 2009? At that point Murray was certainly not the second best player in the world despite what the rankings may have temporarily suggested and therefore it's a bit unfair to accuse chippy17 of not having a clue! There's no question in my mind that Murray thoroughly deserves the number one ranking he's just achieved but he's a very different player now from what he was seven years ago; the competition is also rather different as well given that neither Federer nor Nadal feature in the same way they did a few years ago....

I'm more than aware that the comment was made back in 2009. The fact that he labelled Murray's game as 'Anti tennis' is a demonstration that like many of his knockers have nothing but hatred for the guy. They'll use every excuse to denigrate his achievements:

- Nadal was injured
- Federer was injured
- Nadal was put out
- Djokovic was put out
- Federer was put out
- Surface was slowed down
- It was windy
- It was sunny
- cake walk draw
- Federer and Nadal have slowed down

People conveniently forget that the other 3 greats have benefitted from joke draws, injured opponents giving walkovers and favoured scheduling when Murray consistently is made to play during the heat of the day e.g. in Australia and New York or very late at nights whilst the other top 3 don't. Let's not forget Djokovic getting a virtual cake walk to this year's US Open final.

Oh and none of the other 3 players has had to go through major back surgery like Murray did. Only Federer is finding out now having surgery so he has been quite fortunate.

I've actually been a consistent supporter of Murray over the years but there's no doubt that if you go back to 2009 his game was quite different from what it is now. He certainly had a tendency to be overly passive in matches (which I guess is what the anti-tennis comment referred to) and there were one of two shots that weren't quite where they needed to be if he was going to compete consistently with the very best; for example, at one stage his forehand was pretty mediocre but that's not a word you'd use to describe it now! Part of the reason I'm delighted for Murray is because he took a lot of the criticism on-board and worked tirelessly to improve things; he has improved - significantly so in some areas - and fully deserves the rewards he's been reaping.

So I certainly don't have "nothing but hatred" for the guy - I've huge respect for what he's achieved and am delighted to see him do it. Chippy17 will no doubt speak for himself but I'm not sure who all these Murray haters are that you seem to be seeing? Almost all the recent comments I've read have been complimentary about the bloke and rightly so; however, that doesn't alter the fact that going back 7 years there were legitimate areas to criticise, something I suspect Murray himself would be the first to admit!
