Well, Groves was fairly gung-ho in terms of his defence in this fight, but my impression was that was he had decided to take that gamble as although Sierra was heavy-handed, he wasn't lightning-fast. Yes, he certainly got caught a few times but, in fairness, the length of time he spent out of the ring might have meant his timing wasn't quite as sharp as it might have been. Of course, if that were the case, you could question the wisdom of adopting a strategy of keeping a low guard and relying on reflexes to slip the initial attack, with good reason. That said, when he did get the timing right, it looked beautiful. I'd agree that if Groves fought the cream of the division (does that include Kelly Pavlik?!) in that way, he could find himself in a heap of trouble but, as we saw with the DeGale fight, he's more that capable of fighting in a disciplined/cagey way if required. I get the impression with Groves that he's still testing himself out; seeing where the boundaries lie. The one concern I would have though is of him gaining a little too much confidence in the resilience of his chin, having taken a few shots from a 'banger' relatively well... Did you notice how nervous he looked waiting for the bout to start? Yep, he's nowhere near the top fighters in the division - or nearly the 'finished article' yet - so would only have a very small (KO) chance against the 'big boys' (obviously he'd spark Pavlik though! ) He has got quick reflexes but is too open and gets hit too often (and his chin isn't invulnerable) but he's become exciting to watch. When he goes for it he punches very well from different angles and with either hand and has developed some real KO power. Pity he was so tentative against DeGale - admittedly he won, but he made it look in the balance and that he was afraid to exchange at times. i think if he fought like he has recently he could have hurt DeGale and won more convincingly. Still, old news so 'will be interesting to see how he handles Anderson. some good points fellas, one thing is for sure....he's exciting to watch in the way hamed or khan's vulnerabilities made/make them exciting to watch.every time i watch groves contest i have this fear he's suddenly going to get starched

Looks like Lamont Peterson has been cleared and retains the title! http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15...What will Khan say now about his comments (after the fact of course) that he could tell, that something was wrong, that Peterson was just so strong etc? Nothing actually, obviously...

Looks like Carl Frampton will be fighting Steve Molitor next month. Molitor is probably two or three years past his best but is a step-up in quality for Frampton. My gut feeling is this is a very good piece of match-making for Frampton and is just the kind of opponent he should be looking to take on now...

That's odd - I thought McGuigan had recently confirmed Kiko Martinez?

Yiliterate said: Cheers. Could be a tough test for Frampton - he'll need his wits about him for this guy, assuming he's as fit as he claims.

I didn't realise Hatton was that young. I guess if nothing else he has age on his side! Still, these comebacks are all fine and dandy until you find yourself two minutes into the first round when it suddenly dawns that you no longer have the stomach for it and a whupping is on its way.

oh god, he can't be skint already so this folly is pure vanity.the sad part is a slick/quick fighter like malignaggi(even though hatton has already beaten him-in the context of his recent form a good victory)is not the sort of awkward opponent yo want when trying to shed 3 years ring rust.i love hatton and hope he reconsiders but i do understand that he doesn't want to go out like he did against pacman. naz had one more fight after barrera, struggled and won a stinkfest against manuel cavo but at least it got it all out of his system. interesting to see kostya tszyu is now training povetkin.i wonder if his natural aggresive side can be brought out in alexander?? got to be better han what teddy atlas managed with him. i like that wladimir is fighting unbeaten lion mariusz wach of poland in november.he has real promise and seems to be unafraid to test himself.big f ker as well!!might be a bit green for wlad just yet i'm afraid though

My really big concern is this: he clearly had a tough, tough time dealing with retirement first time round, which ultimately led to him trying to replicate the big fight 'high' through other more destructive means. Recently, though, he seems to have come through that and appears (or appeared) to have found a measure of equilibrium in his life through the training and promoting. I would just hate to see him getting hooked on the fighting buzz again and then having to go through all that s t once more, once the show is finally over...

Lost_BMW said: Just seen an absolute cracker on BN - Abraham V Stieglitz.
Actually waiting for the decision and expect Abrahamm to get it but think Stieglitz could be more derving. Both must have skulls like rhinos with some of the shots they took, the sort of fight that makes you nervous and worry for their safety at time.
EDIT - as expected but by ludicrous home turf points amounts, much closer than it was given

Ah! So there was a conclusion to this fight after all! You see, I Sky+d it and the recording ended just at the start of the eleventh. I was fearing that some terrible fate had befallen the arena...vaporised by lasers from alien spacecraft for instance...but now I see that the BoxNation/Sky+ collaboration has stuffed up once again For what it's worth, I had Abraham marginally ahead at that stage; quality narrowly edging volume for me...but could see it being scored either way. Should have been close, whichever way it went, unless either fighter went on to massively dominate the final two rounds.
