Not just that, but Bellew didn't look like he wanted to finish it, or even hurt his opponent. A really dull performance from him. He needs to do more if he is to demonstrate that he can operate at a higher level.

Great fight Connor v Evangelou there. Thought it would be all over by the fourth.

Edit: Shocking result though, Evangelou was landing massive bombs throughout the fight.

Klitchko fight was a fix IMHO, everyone told to end it asap for whatever reason they could so as to keep Vitali fit for Haye, don't get me wrong Charr was never going to win, but 2 or 3 more rounds of getting punched at 41 is going to take it's toll, best to end it and keep fresh for Haye.

Fingers crossed that I'm right.

Another top draw performance from Andre Ward. I had my hopes up after the first couple of rounds that Chad Dawson would make a real contest out of it, but once Ward caught his with that accurate left in the third, there was only going to be one winner. Must admit, I was surprised the fight was made at Super-Middleweight rather than Light-Heavyweight; I think Dawson might have made it more of a contest, but I don't suppose the outcome would have differed.

I still think that if Froch focused on speed as he did with Bute, rather than power, he could give Ward a run for his money...it'll be interesting to see if that fight comes about.

Why's Charr losing his rag with Vitali? It wasn't him who called it off. Is he accusing him of thumbing...?
Well, he'd be well within his 'rights' to do so, Should be called a no contest and a rematch ordered imho, though that might force us to suffer it again. Brave and tough as he is Charr didn't look good enough to be Vitali's sparring partner.. a bit how Dawson looked to Ward, disappointingly. Absolute shocker of a 'performance'.

Best fight of the weekend for me was Selby.

i think the charr fight has shown that vitali is definately ready to hang them up.it might be that he couldn't get up for such a lowly opponent but he looked really plodding and slow.
when charr went backwards vitali seemed to plod after him but when chaame on him that's when kltschko let his hands go.
doesn't speak well for a fight against haye.i've got a horrible feeling that it would be a stinker of a fight with dave trying to dart in and out without getting too involved and vitali not being able to catch up with him.
i think he should retire now personally, but if haye wants it i'm sure dr. eisenfaust would gladly oblige in one final bout!

bellew had me worried a bit early on but pulled it together to put on a really impressive performance.lovely hooks to the body to stop miranda

ward impresses me more with every performance.he consistently got his lead foot outside dawson's right and turned the left hooks in beautifully turning chad off the fighting line all the time.it was odd for me to watch a contest where the southpaw(who should be more accustomed to this against an orthodox fighter)was "out-southpawed" all night long.ward's dominance was absolute but i do think that he should give chad a return at light heavy when he goes up.dawson did look flat to me.

all told a good start to the season.....can't wait for next week!!

A Heads Up:

This Saturday night/Sunday morning BoxNation have some freeview pundit based shows and a Countdown type programme before the Alvarez Lopez fight (and the fight for subscribers) and earlier there is the Hernandez - Ross fight live at 8.00pm on - if it goes ahead, having heard about some injunction?

Primetime (Sky 498) have the HBO "24/7" show on Chavez and Martinez - again free view - as well as a studio build up programme, then the fight itself as PPV. The shows are on n other days in a piecemeal fashion if you spot them - I've just watched the Martinez - Chavez one on Primetime; not bad and has got me even more stoked up for the fight (which I'm looking forward to far more than the Alvarez fight which I expect will be a big mismatch).

Anyone think there's any truth to the rumour that Hatton is calling a press conference on Fruday announcing his comeback?

Last time I saw a pic of him he was rather large!

Very good smile

I heard Steve Bunce talking about the potential Hatton comeback on 5Live yesterday evening. One interesting point he made was that Hatton could be using this as part of a 'sweetener' in terms of securing Hatton Promotions a new TV deal i.e. if you give my promotional company a TV deal, you'll get the rights to show my comeback fight(s) as well.

He also mentioned that Hatton was already in good shape - c.11st - whereas this far away from a fight he would previously have been closer to 13st.

Talking of Khan... just watching Ringside and glad to hear Dan Raphael from America sayinghow disrespectful Khan is being to Freddie Roach, banding around comments about talking to other trainers.

He says Khan's people gave Roach an ultimatum - drop Manny and Chavez Jr and he could keep the King (fk off) which he described as "ridiculous"! I hope he doesn't get the chance to decide and Freddie retains some dignity by binning him off. tts.

got to agree mate, i've been one of khan's most ardent suppoters and defenders over the years but this st is unbelievable.you were fighting a great fight.you dropped your guard for a split second and got starched by a big puncher.deal with it.
i was particularly irked by his insistence on lumping himself and manny together as evidence of roach's lacking qualities as a coach..."me and manny have no defence;all offense..WE need better defence training,WE are the most formiddable offensive fighters on the planet...etc.."
i can't stand people who try to bask in others' glory.
his levels of arrogance are approaching those of naseem hamed and i've had a belly full.

anyway......who have we all gotat the weekend???

canelo will go through lopez like butter i think.two divisional increases in two fights??he got lucky once but against saul he is getting in with a massive puncher with laser beam accuracy.

i think i fancy sergio over chavez at the moment.my rationale is that although martinez isn't the fastest of starter that insane clockwise turning southpaw routine(how the fk does he do that for more than a couple of combos at a time??!!!) will be enough to flumax chavez.although i have to admit,if chavez starts fast and hard that is his best chance to build a lead up

If you'd asked me about Hatton returning a couple of years back I would have been dead against the idea but now I think it may just work if he was managed carefully. I think Hatton of old would have taken Khan apart but I can't see Hatton of today winning in his comeback fight against Khan. If he looks good after beating a couple of respectible opponents then who knows?

I think Alvarez will beat Lopez either fairly comfortably by UD or he'll have a war and win by KO.

Martinez and Chavez Jr is a toss up. If you asked me about this fight last year I would have said Sergio without a doubt in my mind but since Chavez has stepped up his opposition, he has really stepped up his game and is looking like a beast! I hope Martinez feels him out and then gets into his stride and takes him out late but it really is a pick 'em fight for me at the moment.

Strangely I think he'll struggle to catch (enough) and outpoint Malignaggni if that is his first opponent - despite having beaten him unless he was as sharp and quick as his best I think Maliggnagni is just too slick to get past unless he was as tuned in and quick as his prime. Yet Khan I think he'd KO. Khan hasn't the mental discipline to stay 'out' for 12 rounds, would get drawn in at some point and if Hatton hit him with his best shots would get done. He hasn't the power to KO Hatton unless Hatton really has lost it over the past 3 years, which I doubt, assuming he trains well.

I wonder who his trainer will be now? Gallagher? Funny as it sounds, I think, given his habits the very best bet - if Brit based - would be to go to Barry and Shane McGuigan just to tune him back in and remind him boxing wise, he really doesn't need much instruction or change after all these years, but Shane would get him in proper shape if he listens, complies and has it left. Alternatives could be Adam Booth or Rob McCracken?
