Anyone else watching the heavyweight v middleweight fighting for the cruiser championship on Box Nation? Looks like man v boy...
Mind you, it's turning into a bloody good contest! in fact, was that round 3 or world war 3? Awesome stuff, if a tad 'wild'.
How that got to 12 rounds is beyond me, one of the fastest passing contests I remember - flew by - with a possibly unfair verdict, but close to call. A draw would have been fair imho

Factoid tidbit I never knew.
In 1992, American boxing and wrestling announcer Michael Buffer took out the trademark to his own slogan, Let’s Get Ready to Rumble, and sold it to companies that produce videos and adverts. By 2009 he had made more than $400m (£246m) from the rights.

i bet his brother is a bit peeved ,what, with him getting paid in penny sweets and buttons over at the ufc!!!
mind you "iiiiittt's tiiime" hasn't quite got the same ring to it has it??
martinez certainly burst that bubble didn't he?? i bet jose suliman was crying into his pint on saturday night.
rematch?? my arse, that was domination and exposure on the biggest of stages.i'd argue macklin(looked good as well) and barker would do very well against chavez.barker probably better given that macklin does like to stand and bang a bit more than darren.
lopez did not belong in the ring with someone so big,let alone canelo...good to see he's going back down in weight

An excellent weekend - if hard to fit it all in! Some good undercards, a very up and down contest between Hernandez and Ross, )bubble a bit frayed if not burst?) an interesting fight between Alvarez and Lopez - if only in seeing Alvarez looking more aggressive and determined than normal, given what a mismatch it was, Lopez ultra game though - and that awesome fight between Chavez Jr and Martinez.
Martinez looked so slick, crisp and fast and really handed out a boxing lesson but Chavez earned that Mack Truck nickname and so nearly nicked it at the end. How Martinez survived I don't know.
Despite all the criticism of Ariza he must be on to something getting Chavez down for the weigh in yet getting so much bigger and able to last by the fight. He really looked two weights above Martinez, I'd love to know what he actually weighed by fight time.

Haven't seen much of the weekend's action yet, other than watching Billy Joe Saunders defend his commonwealth middleweight title in pretty impressive fashion on Friday night. Did read a piece from Steve Bunce though, claiming Khan was trying to line up Andre Ward's trainer, Virgil Hunter. I can see the logic but, as Bunce points out, if one of the key issues with Roach is not being the undisputed no.1 at the Wildcard gym, why go to another trainer where he will be encountering the same situation...?
Read that Haye is after a British boxing licence so he kan fight Vitali Klitschko.

Anyone watching the Burns - Mitchell card?
Saw the end of Bradley Saunders and the start of the next but need to get the kids in bed so am recording the rest and hope to get back live before the main card.Have you noticed that the picture quality is the very very worst they've ever provided? Dismal. Makes MotorsTV look almost decent.
Entertaining 6-rounder, that Harrison fight. Fair play to Elfidh; didn't think he'd see the end of the first but he hung on in there and tried to come back with some offence of his own. I think Harrison's best days are behind him but he seems in excellent shape (all things considered) and maybe he can get up to championship level again. Personally, I think a fight against Gavin Rees would be an entertaining spectacle...

He looks stronger - and much bigger - than ever and I'd expect he's really fit if he's training like he did. if he gets his timing and movement back and has carried the dig up in weight I reckon he can still get to a pretty high level. A fight with Rees should be awesome!Yiliterate said:
I was just about to write that if only Ricky Burns could hit a bit harder, he'd be a phenomenal fighter...then BOOM!
I really wasn't expecting that. To be fair to Burns, he made Mitchell look very average. Well deserved- he had won the 3 rounds before that out-of-character knock-down fest!Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
